NFT: Knicks Chat: No KP, no labi

DanMetroMan : 11/9/2017 8:02 am
- Sloppy, ugly outing. Not surprising, the team is heavily reliant on KP (no shocker here) but it appears fatigue may have been an issue. The defense was quite poor allowing the Magic to do whatever they wanted and 23 turnovers is just not going to get it done.

-THjr tried to shoulder the load and did a solid job with 26 and 11

-Frank 6 points, 9 assists, 4 boards, 1 block, 1 steal (commented on this yesterday but he has to get to the rim more. Last 5 games 4 total FTA's, plus side over those 5 games 7 assists per game.

-McBuckets 13 and 2

-Would prefer seeing Dotson play vs. Beasley

Around the league-

Drummond 14, 21 and 4 assists

Lonzo 4-15 9 points, 6 assists, 5 boards, 4 blocks

Ingram 18 and 7

Randle 16 and 12 (very solid player, surprisingly underrated given he plays for the Lakers)

Tatum 5 and 1
.

"Would prefer seeing Dotson play vs. Beasley"

I would too, but I don't think Horny sees them as playing the same position, so it's not apples to apples. Other players would have to be involved in terms of who gets what minutes.
Kuz/Dotson over Beasley
LawrenceTaylor56 : 11/9/2017 8:10 am : link
Surprised Kuz didn't get more burn since they are trying to shop him.

Hardaway played well. Was attacking the rim and getting his shot off.

KOQ keeps showcasing that he is an elite passing big. And aside from KP, he's our best and most impactful two way player this season.
McDermott is also playing well
LawrenceTaylor56 : 11/9/2017 8:14 am : link
on both sides of the floor. He will never be a shut down defender, but the effort is there and he's a decent man to man defender. I think he is going to get a nice sized contract this offseason
ridiculous the NBA scheduled us a back to back with travel...
Italianju : 11/9/2017 8:56 am : link
tor ORL. Glad they sat KP, last night was a loss waiting to happen with or without him. That said they kept within striking distance most of the game and if they stopped passing to ORL they might have won.

Randle is lost in the shuffle in LA. I bet when he gets moved its for a very underwhelming package and the team getting him will get a steal. Ball needs to learn how to do something on offense other then pass. Ball has not looked like the second coming of showtime and Ingram has been up and down when they need a breakout year from him. Ill prolly be in the minority but i do not like that lakers roster, lots of ok talent but nobody really jumps out at you. Of course they are all kids and I love Kuzma so that could change in a couple months.
Agree
DanMetroMan : 11/9/2017 9:12 am : link
with you on Randle. I just find it kind of weird he plays for a franchise where everything is amplified and yet last year a very solid age 22 season (13 and 9 with 4 assists, 16.3 PER) and career 12/9/3. Reminds me a bit of a young ZBO.

didnt you hear according to michael kay kp is faking unless he misses the next game...

as for.lakers i dont know why randle.comes off the bench, and i agree there roster is full of scrubs...

you are telling mr lebron is goinf there to play when all he wants is championships?
Looks like Sessions is in fact "in trouble"
DanMetroMan : 11/9/2017 9:14 am : link
The Knicks have to remove someone from the roster to make room for Noah, whom they apparently have no choice but to keep for now because of his four-year, $72 million contract. If a player is waived, point guard Ramon Sessions is a strong candidate. Perry hardly gave him a vote of confidence Wednesday.

“We know that is looming,’’ Perry said before the Knicks’ 112-99 loss to the Magic. “We’re going to have to address the roster. We’ve been working through the process for a few weeks. By Sunday at 5 p.m., there’ll be a resolution one way or another. Whether it’s a trade or waive an individual.’’

Well in fairness the line of thinking is another star (ie Paul George) would join Lebron in LA.
is lebron and george

played well enough, but man, he looked gassed. Gotta be tough with the schedule so I give him some credit.

Last night looked like a scheduled loss.
Can't knock Hornacek too much this season,

but I'm surprised that he didn't use more of his bench.

That's not really my point. I'm saying you can't look at the Lakers roster and say 1+Lebron = their roster. The "story" is he will go there and bring others with him.

i understand what your saying dan, but my counter to that, is that really winning anything...

unless ball starts to show this promise he has, what confidence should lebron have he can win there?
I

think Lebron may be at the point of his career where living where he wants to live may hold a lot of appeal. He spends most of his free time in LA.

Lebron this offseason..
Italianju : 11/9/2017 9:27 am : link
is going to be fascinating. Unless him and Thomas really gel and that team takes off you have to assume he leaves. THey just dont have roster flexibility other then trading love. I mean maybe a younger star hits the market and they can trade Love and the Nets pick if Lebron says he is staying. Now if he leaves i just dont see where he goes, there are no obvious destinations. It would be a real fun story to follow. I know he would never do it, but i would love to see him go to MIL.

yeah i get that, but his agent/business manager just came out and said it is all about winning
Yeah
DanMetroMan : 11/9/2017 9:32 am : link
but where else is he going to go that has geographical appeal and any "shot" at winning? Lebron + Paul George + Ball + dealing off some of their assets like Ingram/Randle etc likely gives them a roster at least as interesting as the current Cavs team. I'm not making a pro-Lakers argument. If I were Lebron I'd probably try to find a way to link up with Pop. NO's would be a lot of fun with Lebron but $$ it seems impossible. Imagine Boogie/Davis/Lebron?
Ridiculous schedule to travel to Orlando
larryflower37 : 11/9/2017 9:37 am : link
For 1 game and back home.
Smart to sit KP, he is playing a lot of minutes.
So many lazy passes last night and they were slow on defense.
ThR is really coming along and should be a strong compliment to KP.
McDermott sooner than later
Earl the goat : 11/9/2017 9:40 am : link
Needs to be inserted into the starting lineup for Lee

Hopefully Lee is dealt but Mcdermitt is a better shooter and a bigger and better all around player

And just a side note
Sam Presti ain’t looking too good
Oladipo and Sabonis playing real well compared to future Laker Paul George

Kanter and McDermott much better than the ball stopping no defense Melo

I've said it a million times:
Enzo : 11/9/2017 9:47 am : link
players always sign an extension with the team that drafted them if they are offered the max. It's simply too much risk to have to wait 2 years when someone is offering you $150 million. Of course this is MSG we're talking about, so it's not impossible that they fuck this up somehow.

Jay on the Island : 11/9/2017 10:15 am : link
He will sign an extension. His relationship with this franchise is being rebuilt each day and between the adoring fans and the money he will sign a max extension perhaps as early as this season.

he's not eligible to sign the extension until the summer. Given the economics involved, I'm somewhat confident he will sign, but to say you have "no concerns" is being willfully ignorant of what has gone on with this franchise under current ownership. They could fuck up a ham sandwich.
Agreed Jay,
Keith : 11/9/2017 10:37 am : link
KP will be here long term. That's a fact. With the KNicks luck though, he will sign and then go down with a major injury the next day.
of course KP will be here long term
djm : 11/9/2017 11:11 am : link
how else can KP win 6 NBA titles with the Knicks unless he's here for at least 6 more years? And we should be reasonable and expect one or two losses in the finals so that's 8 seasons right there.

The team is on the right track finally. I'm not afraid to say that. KP isn't going anywhere. Phil's legacy will live on for the next decade and own the NBA. Hi Enzo.
I'd be shocked if LBJ isn't a Laker

DanMetroMan : 11/9/2017 11:24 am : link
think Janis's comments were essentially a non-story given the years of control and $$ advantages the Knicks have. Heck, Scott Boras openly mocks the Mets every year and yet somehow the Mets draft/sign Boras clients. Both the owner and previous president "abused" players and the Knicks have been a laughingstock (even among their fans). At the end of the day the Knicks and what THEY do will dictate KP's future and not KP leaving tens of millions on the table to bolt.

Randle is perfect for coming off the bench. Pure energy coming in to tear up another team's second unit. History has also shown his effectiveness decrease a ton when overworked. The issue isn't that.

The issue is him still being on the bench and Luke putting in Bogut. Two of Lopez, Randle, and Kuz should be on the floor at all times. There is (and was last night) zero reason to not only play Bogut and Brewer, but even worse to have them on the floor at the same time in the fkn first quarter.

And...

Horny could have started KOQ at the 4 last night instead of Beasley. But I think he's looking for positional continuity right now - and also giving Beasley some burn so as to decide what to do with him. Frankly, I didn't like what I saw from Beasley last night - and over the longer haul, if KP is not available on a given night (and there will be those nights), it would make sense to me to start KOQ at the 4 and let Willy be the backup 5. But I think we have to accept that the Knicks are still sorting out a bunch of such issues, and while they are there will be nights like last night.

The Lakers signed Luol Deng (four years, $72 million) and Timofey Mozgov (four years, $64 million) last summer to contracts that have become significant impediments to Los Angeles’ ability to upgrade its roster.

The Lakers had to include D'Angelo Russell to dump Mozgov, and now they’re trying to unload Deng – which will also surely require massive sweeteners.

What were they thinking?

It wasn’t hard to look around the league and see that few teams would benefit from an amnesty clause. Though the previous two Collective Bargaining Agreements allowed teams to amnesty a single player (removing his salary from the cap and luxury tax), a rapidly rising salary cap reduced most teams’ desire for that out. The votes just weren’t going to be there.

Why didn’t former Lakers executives Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak, who were in charge in the summer of 2016, realize that? Maybe because communication broke down between them and controlling owner Jeanie Buss, who would have been more involved in negotiating the CBA.

who thought those signings were good were the lakers FO (prolly not all of them) and mozgov and Deng. The assets they would need to give up to dump Deng would be pretty big.

The feeling is they will almost certainly have to include Randle+ to move him. Obviously if it means Lebron it's a no-brainer but would be great to see them do that for Lebron to spurn them.

With a sprained ankle and bursitis in his elbow, Kristaps Porzingis took Wednesday night off as his New York Knicks squared off with the Orlando Magic. While his short-term absence amounts to little more than precautionary maintenance in the early stages of a long season, Porzingis indicated that his lingering elbow issue has become a long-term concern.

The big man said he might need to undergo a minor procedure on his wonky right elbow - telling the New York Post's Marc Berman that he could "drain it" or "do some stuff with it" - but not until after the season.

"It bothers me a little bit but not that bad," Porzingis said prior to tip-off Wednesday. "I have to get the swelling down and then I’ll be fine again. But I think once the season's over, I might have to do something about it. I just can’t keep going like this every year."

Maybe. But I don't see Lebron-Ball-George? getting by GS and Houston.

Lebron is probably still the best player but the gap has closed. Ball might be the next Jason Kidd but he is going to take a few years to reach that level. George is good but not elite al la Wade back when Lebron joined Miami.

LAL. Kanter can opt in which would defeat the whole purpose of dealing Deng (2018 cap room) and would have cost them a nice young player AND a first.
I think that's a little too much if I'm the Lakers

Would Deng, Clarkson, Randle

for

Kanter, Lee, Kuz

be more balanced? Not sure. I think we're probably guilty of trying to force something that isn't there.
