I know most of the stuff he said about his dad was BS, but even if 1/10th of it was true, he was really abused as a kid.
The image of the turkey leg going through the TV screen makes me laugh, though.
It shouldn't have been funny, but the stories about the dad with the Schlitz cans made me giggle uncontrollably - I'm already going to hell, so whatever.
Everything else aside, this is not about what the troll does.
It's about how the website handles it.
Can the BBI community count on the site to handle things consistently, reliably, and according to stated policy? Or can't they?
What's the message this site wants to send to the next troll? Go ahead -- you might not get voted off the island.
I've run a web community that's almost as old as this one, and one thing I've learned is that if you establish site rules, you damn-well better enforce them consistently. If you don't, the assholes take advantage of that situation, and the good members lose respect for the site and its hosts.
Agreed. It's either Slade himself using proxy servers to vote (which would be quite the effort) or the lurkers who don't really have skin in the game.
This board is worse with Slade than without. He's a bonafide troll.
Mostly lurker here who voted to keep him, mostly to piss off people like you with "skin in the game". It's an online forum about a sports team for fuks sake. Get over yourselves.

WTF has BBI become? A place where great posters are banished but putzes like Slade and a host of other horrific posters can foul the site routinely? Really pathetic.

Who is or is not a "good poster" depends on who you ask.
What I see on this site is a group of crusty old veterans who think that because they have been here longer or post more often that that somehow means they are generally smarter overall or when it comes to football.
Why not let Eric run his website the way he wants and maybe leave if you don't like it?
the whole time makes it seem like something is up. I really doubt slade has that many supporters. lol. He has been worthless for quite some times now.
And yeah, put me in the camp that says he just should have been banned without a poll. Unless you're 100% certain that the poll can't be rigged but it's obvious that it can be. It let me vote twice, once on my phone and once on my laptop so I'm sure others are getting the same odd things. The only thing we're good at here as far as rules goes is making sure anything political isn't allowed.
A decision overturning government restrictions on social media is far from apples to apples with regards to a message board community self managing its policies. The first amendment protects citizens from the government on matters of free speech. It does not prevent private business owners from determining how they want to run their company (or message board, in this case). If the government was stepping in to ban Slade, your example might - MIGHT - hold water, but that's not what's happening here.
It sets a precedent for other BS trolls to look to and point at. So, if he is not banned here, be ready for the potential of more of these false, unsubstantiated claims to be posted more frequently and by other faux "insiders". Whatever the value is in entertainment of these posts, still lowers the legitimacy of the site.

Sure, if people are going to take the time and effort to vote from multiple devices, they are going to be able to do that.
Part of my intent to do this was to show people that their view wasn't clearly the majority view... but I had no idea it would be this close.
no one should be banned for posting fake stuff on April fools day then. Eric won't have a leg to stand on
Again, the extenuating circumstance in this case is that cvic/slade posted great stuff for about a year until turning to crap. So he was cut a lot of slack. We don't want to run off asshats.
That said, he's been batting 0.000 for quite some time now.

No one with BBI is messing with this poll.
Eric, I don't think it's limited to once/device. I voted twice on the same device. All I had to do was refresh the thread... Then I came back just now and could vote a 3rd time.
Interesting to see how passionate people are about this...
Get rid of trolls at all costs adherents vs. what's the harm in the entertainment value.
Reminds me of that drag the Eagle guy who I thought was a fake until people started telling me they met him at tailgates. A lot of people wanted him gone while others said, he's real and doing no harm. Then he started posting crap that got him in trouble.
That was Rich in Houston. I don't have the information you do, but some of his posts were very entertaining.
Was sincere in his predictions and false information distribution, he should also have realized this might be a consequence should he be wrong too many times. No sympathy here.
Opinions vary. The front page look is dated but not ridiculously so. We'll upgrade it again at some point.
Personally, I think the content is on par with most other sites. Take for example, Sy's draft previews and the game reviews over the years (Joey, Sy, rnargi, etc). Camp reports used to be better because of Albany - the move to East Rutherford really hurt us there, but this past year gidiefor and Sy did great with the camp reports. Their videocasts from camp were the best I've seen from the various outlets in terms of actual substance and interviews.
During the season, the front page is largely a compilation of the days news... injury report, interviews, transactions... my feeling is that is what most people want... a quick summary of what transpired in the day and they can then pick and choose whether or not they want to dive into a particular interview or article.
The content is great, especially Sy's reports. You can't find that on other sites.
I do go to other sites. I come here for the community and discussion that goes well beyond sports. Appreciate you allowing me to do whatever I want though...
If I am him, I'm probably a little concerned contributing to an entertainment site rather than an actual sports site that reports real info.
Keith --
all sports info sites are considered entertainment.
this site is both an info and discussion site, and by definition that provides entertainment -- now whether the entertainment is good or not - is purely subjective.
Sy is a professional athlete, a Giants fan, and a professional football talent evaluator, and he likes this venue because he gets to share his perspective with fellow fans here, but he also does work professionally for other venues.
The amount of time he spends doing what he does is clearly extensive. The owner of this site knowingly allows fake posters to post fake information for entertainment. That would concern me if I took my job seriously and spent the time that he does.
Who knows, maybe it doesn't concern him, I'm just saying that I wouldn't want to be associated with that.

when BBI had a community and could be help up as an example of a great discussion board with intelligent conversations on the Giants as well as the news of the day, economics, and world affairs.
But the trolls and garbage on this site that have been allowed to stay have led to many of the most thoughtful posters leaving or posting far, far less, and so the overall quality of conversation on here has fallen off a cliff.

Keith - I love you but you are really making a leap here. Please reread what Eric wrote. He wrote that Slade had been making solid seemingly inside info posts when he first came on the scene here, and that he had been giving him considerable benefit of the doubt because of it, but he also suggested that Slade may have worn out his welcome by being consistently off for a while now.
I'm just stating how I feel. If I am Sy and putting in the work he does, I take that seriously. I don't want to be associated with a site that allows people to do what slade does.
Now I understand the canundrum(sp?) as slade used to be someone that hit on some stuff. If that is the case(and I certainly don't remember that long ago), he clearly has jumped the shark. The only thing Slade hit was Marshall, but it's very clear what he does(sees a news story and then posts some BS in the hopes it comes true). He's been wrong about the OL(mentioned on multiple occassions that we were close to a trade. Hes been wrong on the coach, personnel moves in the offseason, the eraser. NOt only has he been wrong on all of it, there has been no mention of any of it in the press. Don't you think something would have leaked if they were discussing?
Mob rule is turning on me too.

It allows you to vote again, but the vote is not registered in the totals.
Also, I never knew until today that Slade was/is cvic.
Nobody is holding you hostage here.. Feel free to go to those "real" news sites...

I'm especially amused by how many posters continue to believe him after he's been wrong over and over and over again.
It's like watching Lucy hold the football for Charlie Brown.
