With all due respect (and I sincerely mean that), it's still bizarre that I love liverwurst is allowed to remain here after this thread. Even after being warned, he then follows up with his "your boyfriend will thank you for it" post and that's not enough for even a timeout? I think that's the sort of thing that causes some to wonder.
I trust your word that you may not have seen it, but it's a pretty egregiously offensive post coming right on the heels of being warned. And his political view is clear. So when he manages to survive that sort of post, I think posters have a reason to at least ask why.

Where this thread started going south was when Blogger made his post. I issued a warning. Then Liver stupidly made his post. I issued a warning. The subsequent post you are linking to isn't political. It's him being abusive to others who took offense to his original post and also got abusive.
So from my point-of-view, you've got two sides in a name-calling pissing match over a stupid, original provocative post that he already had been warned about.
The net result... he's on my watch list. But there are other people on this thread who now are on my watch list because they couldn't control themselves either.

FWIW, I was attempting a joke about the state of the Giants. The original version of that post included explicit references to the Seattle and Los Angeles games as reasons for welcoming banishment. I'm not sure that version was any funnier, or that it complied with BBI's terms of reference. At least it was clearer. In any case, I am sorry for crossing the line.

More generally, I'm not sure there's any good way to separate entertainment from politics, especially with a reality-TV star in the White House. At the end of the day, it's Eric's site, and he makes the call. I may see Manafort and Moore as safe figures for derision (since DJT fired Manafort and endorsed Moore's opponent), but BBI obviously isn't the place for that discussion.

Particularly with increasing awareness of CTE, drug abuse, domestic violence, and other ills in which the sport has been implicated, it's hard to discuss football's future without some political context. It's no wonder that football discussion turns political and arouses a certain amount of passion: some of these questions touch the fundamental tensions among freedom, order, and social justice - which have strained the union since at least 1789, and aren't going away any time soon.
If we could keep it civil, BBI would be a great place to discuss these topics, because such diverse views and backgrounds are represented here. As Eric has said, the problem isn't politics per se, but our inability to touch the political third rail without igniting tribal firefights. That's why we can't have nice things.

Bill - I am interested to know what you would have us do.
We post policy and rules, we attempt to communicate them, we even start threads about them, and email parties about their violations.
Currently, we ask that suspended posters (and the vast majority of them are repeat violators) to acknowledge that they violated the rules and indicate that they won't do it again.
Each violator is taken on a case by case basis -- and some just acknowledge what they have done and say they won't do it again, and others debate with us our right to suspend them or even what constitutes a violation. The latter are generally unsuccessful in returning.
We are not trying to embarrass anyone - and Modus -- I really don't remember you puckering up - even a little.
I'm not sure what else you would have us do to get the point across and am interested in hearing what else we should be doing for illumination purposes.

Eric - I guess what I am expressing is regret that those threads no longer have legs. Some used to go off the rails and get deleted, but many stayed on the front page for days and had a lot of good commentary. That thread headed for page 2 in an hour or two, and while resurrected once or twice, never got the comments that similar threads in the past got.
