Your question was probably tongue in cheek, but in case it wasn't - no such award. Gold Glove is best fielder at each position, Silver Slugger is best hitter at each position. Considering Judge was a finalist for GG and won SS ... well, that's MVP territory, although he probably will finish second to Altuve for that. (This year.)

I don’t have a problem with Altuve winning, he’s exceptional and can play on my team any day. But if they are going by what the award says it is, it is supposed to be the most valuable player. If you take Altuve out of Houston’s lineup, they still win that division by 10 games, minimum. Probably more. Take Judge away from the Yankees this season and they don’t come close to sniffing the playoffs. To me, Judge was more valuable to his team. Of course I’m biased, and the precedent has been set before that the award is sometimes given to the “player of the year” rather than most valuable to his team, again SOMETIMES (Andre Dawson) while other times they penalize a player for playing on a bad team.

Thanks Del - I was kidding but, learned a lot from your post. I did not realize he was a GG finalist. Also, to be completely honest - I never heard of the Silver Slugger award so I googled it and when I didn't come up with any info on a Golden Slugger, I figured they went with silver because of the gold reference on defense ("Golden Glove") and also they were trying to stay with the double (same) letter format GG and SS. That last part was a guess though.

They created the Henry Aaron award for player of the year back when McGwire broke the HR records, but wasn't really an MVP.

Still pissed that Gardy didn't win the Gold Glove for left field...
Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra
