Ereck Flowers

Things are so bad with NYG he has not been subject of a thread for a long time...so...Hi Ereck.
He's been doing so well
adamg : 11/10/2017 3:56 pm : link
The haters have retreated.

And we can be glad that at least he's turned a corner while the rest of the team fell off a cliff.
I have not
mrvax : 11/10/2017 4:04 pm : link
seen him screw up in a while.
FO

needs to do a hard evaluation on him to see if he's really turned/turning the corner. I like him as a football player and rooting he IS a LT.
I would have liked to see what he could do with that short area strength forward/limited distance backward as a RG.
Front Office?
idiotsavant : 11/10/2017 4:26 pm : link
Front frigging Office?

Do we have one?

arcarsenal : 11/10/2017 4:28 pm : link
He was the subject of nearly every single negative prediction or concern over the summer and he wound up not even being the worst OT in the team.
First (5?) Games
idiotsavant : 11/10/2017 4:33 pm : link
The guard center guard triangle was horrendous.

Then, lots of quick hit passes, well, that's incorrect....out of the small sample provided by 3 + outs, a large % of short quick ....attempts made.

Doing so well? Let's not get carried away. He has been better. And he hasn't wrecked a game like the one vs. Detroit. He hasn't strangled a speed rusher with his clothes-line technique so that's good. But we also can't run for shit especially behind a guy whose strength is run blocking. Eli manages to get the ball out in less than 2 seconds so again Ereck just need to be a speed bump long enough to prevent the opponent from crippling Eli.
He’s been good that’s why

I think it’s more of the terrible backups we have playing at guard and center. Jerry isn’t a run blocker that’s for sure. Fluker blows and Jones is to small.
we still need a real LT
mdc1 : 11/10/2017 4:59 pm : link
. Sorry to shit on your thread. He should be a guard or somewhere else.

Well certainly the rest of the line sucks, but let's not make it out that they are holding back Ereck's greatness. When Pugh whom according to BBI is our best OL was playing next to Ereck, we still couldn't run for shit.
They really effed themselves out of looking at guards
idiotsavant : 11/10/2017 5:10 pm : link
With the stubbornness of insisting that Pugh was a guard. Weather it was a poorly conceived financial motivation, or the desire to justify other decisions, Pugh was at the same time too small or weak for guard within Mac ball and our best tackle.

It's called a year of missed opportunity cost.

Add to that how absolutist and downright brutal fans here were in supporting this now failed train of thought.
at some point
mdc1 : 11/10/2017 5:21 pm : link
maybe we should put the guys that are making decisions on oline roles under the microscope instead of the players that are not the right fit. Then maybe we can actually put the "RIGHT" guy in the position that they are developed to succeed?

Remember we are an organization of selecting "not enough pass rushers" or guys that can do backflips for 70 yards, maybe not considering they have vertebrae wear and damage?

If the vertebrae damage already existed in Wilson it would have shown up at combine medical tests. That’s hell of a revisionist history statement

Back when the games mattered he was still the worst.. remember Detroit game.. remember him screwing up on run plays against eagles.. I am not giving him a thumbs up for playing acceptable after screwing up our season when things mattered.. but he has done enough to may be in consideration for being in this team next year...

+1. Its generally a very good thing when you don't hear an OL name mentioned
he still stinks
Paulie Walnuts : 11/10/2017 6:15 pm : link
watch how he sets his feet and tips pass plays before the snap, he's a bust
Erik is what he is, and that's not bad.
KeoweeFan : 11/10/2017 6:50 pm : link
Forget his draft position.
The REAL question is his OL position.
A new coaching regime needs film and a preseason to see where he fits. (This suggests a reevaluation of the entire DL, including who DOESN'T fit.)
The other thing it suggests is to not wait until Jan 1; there is a lot of work to be done before the 2018 season.
This whole mess is Will Beatty’s fault. Blame him!
Ivan15 : 11/10/2017 6:55 pm : link
If he doesn’t get hurt, Flowers is the RT and Pugh is the LG. When Beatty retired (which he would have eventually in 2017 or 2018) we would know if Flowers is a quality tackle and can move to LT or not a Quality tackle and moves to guard.

So either Flowers or Pugh plays LT in 2017 or 2018. Meanwhile Hart either develops as a guard where he was drafted to play or flames out as low round draft picks are supposed to do.
Nice thread djstat
Jimmy Googs : 11/10/2017 7:01 pm : link
Totally agree that one of our biggest problems can hide in the shadows of a disaster season.

I still say this guy sucks balls and will never be even an average LT...
We as fans can forget the draft position,
Diver_Down : 11/10/2017 7:05 pm : link
but the decision makers can not ignore when he was taken. Being that he was a top 10 pick, the 5th year option is calculated differently than other 1st rounders. The deadline to pick up the 5th year option is on May 3rd. This salary is calculated as the average of the top ten highest Prior Year Salaries for players at the same position.

These are the 10 highest paid OL for 2017:
Code:
1. Chargers offensive lineman Russell Okung: $13.25 million
2. Redskins offensive lineman Trent Williams: $13.2 million
3. Saints offensive lineman Terron Armstead: $13 million
4. Cowboys offensive lineman Tyron Smith: $12.2 million
5. Bills offensive lineman Cordy Glenn: $12 million
6. Packers offensive lineman David Bakhtiari: $12 million
7. Browns offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler: $12 million
8. Chiefs offensive lineman Eric Fisher: $12 million
9. Vikings offensive lineman Riley Reiff: $11.75 million
10. Raiders offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele: $11.7 million

Without doing the exact math, Ereck will receive a $12M 5th year option. The front office needs to decide on picking up the option or let him play out his final year under contract.
Anybody that would support giving this train-wreck Left Tackle
Jimmy Googs : 11/10/2017 7:20 pm : link
$12M next season (or any season) needs to be given a CT-Scan.

Fairly certain we can win 1 game in 2018 without even putting a starting Left Tackle on the field.

and I am not kidding...

Complimenting Ereck for his play
Diver_Down : 11/10/2017 7:39 pm : link
is akin to noticing the bag of trash that missed the dumpster that is a raging inferno. It doesn't matter. All the trash stinks.
The guy...
2ndroundKO : 11/10/2017 7:45 pm : link
Hasn't allowed a sack in five games, barely allows pressure and the run game has improved immensely in that span but the idea that maybe, just maybe, he's turning the corner, should be done away with like him. BBI at its negative best.
He’s looked better
WillVAB : 11/10/2017 9:17 pm : link
And they need him to be a reliable piece going forward. They’re going to need to upgrade 3-4 OL spots in the off-season not counting Flowers.
I think he will
SomeFan : 11/11/2017 3:52 am : link
always be near the bottom of the NFL asa an LT. They are trying to scheme around his shit play.
He is going into his 4th year next year not 5th
est1986 : 11/11/2017 11:23 am : link
You pick up the option just in case he keeps this "turn of the corner". Picking up the option does not guarantee him the salary. Fluker was cut after chargers picked up his option then waited to see if its worth it and they decided it wasnt then they cut him. Flowers is not worth anywhere near 12mil APY right now but if he plays well the rest of the year and continues to play well next year then maybe he will be.. Dont forget Flowers this year is the same age as most of the rookie OL playing now around the league.
He has improved which is very encouraging
Jay on the Island : 11/11/2017 1:36 pm : link
He should be moved to RT next season where he will thrive IMO. I hope that the Giants start Wheeler at RT shortly to get an idea of whether or not he is a legitimate option to replace Flowers on the left side next season. If not then I expect this team to use their 2nd round pick on an OT or G. If a new GM is brought in then John Jerry will certainly be released but I would like to see Fluker brought back on a 1 year deal to provide depth and possibly compete for the RG spot.

This is bullshit. They don’t scheme to help him at all. If they did, they would actually use Ellison, the way they should
