John Fox

Painless62 : 11/10/2017 5:04 pm
What is the opinion of him? Seems to have the Bears playing tough and in the correct direction. What’s the book on him and would he be a viable choice going forward. There is mutual like and respect between him and the organization. Is he not signing an extension thinking the Giants might want him? He would check off many of the boxes for the owners. Think it might be a possibility.

Foxy was one of my favorite Giants DC's. Loved him when he was here and I'd love to have him back. I think he's a good coach. I'm just not sure he'll be available.
Fox presents kind of a conundrum.

He has had high peaks and low valleys, and hasn't seemed to sustain success anywhere. I'd be happy to see him back with the Giants but I don't think he'd be the next HC to get a Lombardi for Big Blue...

no track record as a closer. TC was a closer. John Fox is not a closer. Also his defenses came up short under Fassel in specific moments during postseason games.

him to a new multi yr extension.
John is probably a good coach in the old mold

What the NYGs need is a coach that can turn a franchise around in a short time (because many of the assets already exist; this NOT a Cleveland rebuild from the ashes).
In addition, as many have observed, there seems to be a repeating cycle of "players' coaches" and disciplinarians. My guess is the latter is now required (see: OBJ, the CBs).
Successful turn-around coaches seem to burn out quickly (Billy Martin multiple times)
I wouldn't begin to guess how to identify such a talent (like Sean McVay) BEFORE THE FACT.
Would Saban fit that role? He would probably request both HC and GM hats. Give it to him. (He clearly won't be here for 15 years.) Let him turn the franchise back in the right direction. I remember another HC associated with Alabama who turned the reins over to a "Tuna" with satisfactory results.
With Eli

Yeah, I think he signed a deal just after the season started..
John Fox has not been extended in Chicago
Giantology : 11/10/2017 6:47 pm : link
However, the Chicago Bears did agree to a 5 year extension with Fox TV's local network WFLD-Ch. 32- thus causing a lot of confusion.

Fox, Fox, what's the difference? Ok, thanks.
Coordinators
Painless62 : 11/10/2017 7:10 pm : link
With good coordinators he can be good. Stable, liked and respected . Don’t be surprised as the owners really like him
He'd be a massive upgrade to what's here now
djm : 11/10/2017 8:58 pm : link
At first I didn't like the idea but I'm warming up to it more and more. First off, retreads win. Second, Fox has ties obviously and knows NYC. Plus he's been at least ok at every stop. It's a safe pick and sometimes safe is good.

I'm not sure Fox would be my first choice but we could do much much worse. Fox is a professional head coach. Would bring some stability.
If he’s available, he’ll be the HC IMO

Record
Painless62 : 11/11/2017 7:25 am : link
Go back and look at his record. He has had more than a few 11 plus win seasons. Only a few clunkers . Solid winning percentage. Always good to very good D. Give him a good O coordinator and talent and he will produce. Also we would probably like his style as it is more old time Giants like. Look at the Bears. Just think there is perhaps some back door talk and one of the reasons he hasn’t signed an extension.

Fox..

has an interesting statistical run. He never had back to back winning seasons with Carolina, then he had 3 in a row with the Broncos and has had 3 losing seasons in a row with the Bears.
