Giants are so bad no one has noticed their kicker is a disas

He hit from 47 and 42 yards against the 49ers but then could not make a 34-yard try. Rosas also hit the game-opening kickoff out of bounds.

For the season, Rosas is now 10-for-15 on field goals.

“We’ve got to make kicks,’’ coach Ben McAdoo said.

I noticed. Believe me I have noticed.

How do you kick the opening kickoff out of bounds on a gorgeous, windless day?? And miss a 34 yd FG?
We have to be heavy footed...
bradshaw44 : 11/13/2017 9:16 am : link
This season is a total disaster.
Let's not forget our punter....
Tesla : 11/13/2017 9:17 am : link
who is last in the NFL in net punting by a full two yards!!!! And has a nice little habit of completely shanking punts in critical spots.

Should have kept Nugent

But this is the easiest fix to make.
It's amazing how Rosas went through an entire off-season and training

Nugent missed an easy chip shot yesterday - when the game was still close in 3q - and is I think 3 of 5 for Dallas. He's not the answer.

How about Butker on the Chiefs???

But this is easily addressed if you want to move on from Rosas.
what worries me more is the hyperbole......
BillKo : 11/13/2017 9:24 am : link
...that he has a "generational leg".

No where did any scouting report talk about this kid like that.

And our coach, who talks about great practices....who have to really start wondering about this guy.

blame Quinn....

Let's face it.....with a rookie kicker, you are going to have growing pains.....I said that before the opening of the season, that this may be a gamble in close games...

Well guess what? He has faltered, and he couldn't have picked a better season to do it.....you only get better by experience, and hopefully he learns from this......we have let too many kickers get away, for one reason or the other....hopefully this season makes him a better kicker, and someone we can count on in the future......we have too many other holes on this team to worry about....

growing pains in a terrible season. I mean I'd rather him have growing pains now then in next year. Might be able to recover from it, but I'm sure we'll bring competition in over the summer and he'll either win out or get cut. This is the least of our worries.
we never should have let McManus walk a few years back.

if ever you want to see what a young kicker can do and not really hurt the team, it's when you are 1-8 and the season is in the shitter. I'm happy to let him keep working at it if the Giants think there is something there that can develop more in the future. But as said in the offseason, unless you have some type of freak like a Morten Anderson, kickers are like middle relievers in baseball. You go year by year with them and if they aren't doing well, you swap in another one.
But he practices...

Les in TO : 11/13/2017 9:40 am : link
who was in the Giants camp this year is also hitting 67% of his field goals (4/6) for the cowboys.

the kicking game has been horrible this year for the giants - shanks, blocked punts, out of bounds kickoffs, bottom of the league return stats.

Rookie kicker
sshin05 : 11/13/2017 9:41 am : link
is the least of the problems, like what Matt says let him grow and work it out as a pro. He has a lot of promise, so I wouldnt get rid of him after one year.

I think he will be ok.
section125 : 11/13/2017 9:47 am : link
Rookie season, et al. He needs a good kicking coach because all his misses are to the right - he is either not following through or is not lined up correctly. They are not bad misses - the ball is just not hooking.

Janikowski was doing the same thing early on....I wouldn't give up on him, yet.
I'll need to look at the tape.

with Matt. This is the season for him to work out his kinks and troubles. Bring in some competition next year, and if he wins the job again, cut him if this continues in 2018.

Wing has also been poor.
He needs to
Metnut : 11/13/2017 9:58 am : link
be better, but let's see how he finishes the season. He's a rookie kicker with big upside and this season is lost, so great opportunity to have this kid try and make kicks during live games.

Not even sure about that. The net punting average is more about coverage lapses and punting from the opponent 45 yard line and downing it inside the 20, etc. How many Giants drives stalled at the 45-35 yard line when McAdoo wouldn't kick a field goal.

Yes he had two bad punts that likely cost a game or two.

I posted a thread about him before the season started and said I had some concerns about him. It was mostly shot down and rebuffed.

The season has been such a mess that no one has noticed or really cared - but had we been competitive this year, there's a good chance this guy could have really cost us.

I'm not sure we've found our guy here at all.
I don't trust him, good thing we are playing meaningless games

Meh, doubting a rookie kicker pre-season. I didn't mind going with a young guy with a strong leg and seemingly accurate. I still don't mind keeping him through camp next year. Let's really see what he's got. Kickers are fluky..

I don’t agree at all. He’s been bad all year long. There’s no situational excuses. They’ve needed a big leg to build better field position battles and he’s come up short more often than not.

I wasn't against the idea of giving him a chance, I was just skeptical about how he'd do and if he'd cost us during the season.

The team wound up being so bad that he hasn't been able to be the reason we lose games. I'm also not saying I'd give up on him right away.

But I think the concerns turned out to be at least semi-validated if anything.

If this team were 1/2 competitive this season, he would have already been cut because it is very likely he would have been costing them games and the team would have been forced to act.

No kickers get jobs who only make 66% of their kicks and have several kickoffs go out of bounds. That sends you right to the unemployment line.

Ok, I can agree with your reasoning for being skeptical, but who wouldn't have some doubts about a small college kicker? Just you never know until the poop hits the fan. I still think he will turn out ok down the road. He just has a technique problem. His misses aren't wildly bad - just pushes it or doesn't get it to hook enough. They are close misses and not sprayed all over. I think he needs to start it inside the uprights.

I've been working for two of the largest healthcare manufacturers. He's like the sales manager or marketing manager who has a buddy who got him promoted. When everything is good he's fine. When he needs to actually do his job he's lost and just says things that sound good but mean nothing or really don't address the problems that r have any depth

I'm not sure he was a even a good OC He's obviously in way over his head and doesn't have any control of he team

remember the coaching staff drooling over him?

And every game I saw him punt, he'd muff one....every game. But we kept hearing how good he was in practice.

Some guys simply can't do it on center stage.

This kicker looks that part.

I've noticed. Both kickers need to be replaced.

the way our team is structured you can't miss 34 yarders
and kick out of bounds that like set the tone of the game .

Its just that there is so much fail this year, we need to prioritize our venting.
And our record's so bad his adding to the total by missing is lost in the mix.
EVERYBODY on the roster, sidelines, IR, FO, and anywhere else has contributed.
