The D has been poor since the beginning of the year. They gave up leads ,
points and yards since first few weeks. Which is it? If both , place them in appropriate category . Like , JPP bad.
If you have 2-3 guys quit, along with 2-3 injuries, along Â
at Dallas and vs. Detroit. They forced FGs vs. the Cowboys when the offense was 3 and out all game. They held Stafford to 119 yards and 5.0 yards per reception and 257 total yards.
In the Eagle game, the Giants offense didn't wake up until the 4th quarter on a hot field and they ran out of gas.
The defense didn't start quitting until the news of the suspensions and fines came out. Essentially, this was a revolt against the coaches.
You don't go from being one of the best defenses in the NFL and probably the best defensive backfield in the NFL. Jenkins was a shutdown corner. This team has given up on the coaches.

Matt, I think some of it also stems from the lack of direct calling out of the Oline early on. The defense can't be asked to win games each week. It is hard enough to keep teams down, but to have the defense expected to shut them down completely series after series while your offense sputters, turns the ball over and seems quite inept is just too much to to take.
Last time I checked the defense gets a paycheck every 2 weeks Â
They need to do their job period. Also if they are not happy with the offense that probablem rests with both Reese and McAdoo. You just don’t quit playing. The players today make too much money and once they get big guaranteed contracts can decide how much effort they want to expend each week. A player like Jenkins was available because he was a cancer in another lockeroom. Problem was that Reese had his back against the wall and needed to fix the lousy defense because of poor drafting.
it wasn't the OLS fault that the D gave up a 90 yd 10 play Â
drive to the Eagles in the first quarter. Or 89 yds 16 plays to SEA, again in the first quarter. THe O is a joke in every way, but the defense was incompetent early and it went unnoticed because of the offense's woes.
The biggest problem with the Offense is that the scheme sucks. You are seeing it now in Green Bay too since Rodgers went down.
It is allowed to be both, not always one way or the other, all one thing, it is a little of both. Reese is a horrible GM, now that is exposed, and McAdoo is a horrible head coach, when you have both, this is what you get, Reese don't have a great head coach to make him look good anymore, I am happy that this will finally lead to him getting fired, not only is he a bad GM< but he is an unlikeable guy, arrogant and smug. Don't even communicate with the fans. Good riddance.
we have no pass rush and we can’t stop the run. Those two elements will kill any defense. My concern is the contracts that we’ve given our two starting DEs. We’re going to have to live with these DEs for another few years too. One of our biggest off-season needs, IMO is going to be Pass rushing DE (probably draft). Then they need to consider a better rotation at DE and not rely on those two being on the field for 95% of defensive plays. LBer is another position that needs to be fixed and lastly safety. I sure hope that our CBs rebound next year.

I agree that Reese needs to go, but who gives a shit whether he's a nice guy or doesn't communicate with the fans? I'll be happy with Mussolini in the front office if he can pick the right players.
they know that they are playing for their future in every game. If they quit, then that will be on film for the next potential team to see. Now, does this mean that 1 or 2 did not look like they quit while watching on TV? Absolutely.. but to say the "team" quit would be inaccurate.
But the "quitting" defense did us all a favor. If they don't quit and play lights out we're still going nowhere this season. The D needed to quit. Facilitate change.

some guys have lost confidence
But overall I think it's too easy to say they have quit. I just think there is no leadership to right the ship
