NFT: MLB Talk 11-13

superspynyg : 11/13/2017 2:54 pm
A’s denied Yankees request to interview Manger Bob Melvin.
Cards and Giants most interested in Stanton.
Cards interested in Darvish and Arrieta.
M’s and Sux interested in Carlos Santana. Word is Red Sux really want a power bat.

Just some news and rumors.

Is it somewhat of a foregone conclusion that Stanton will be traded at some point this offseason?
Anyone
mitch300 : 11/13/2017 3:02 pm : link
know when Otani gets posted? I know teams have 4 days to sign him at that point.
how do you justify in effect trading Girardi for Bob Melvin? Or worse,
Victor in CT : 11/13/2017 3:19 pm : link
Eric Wedge?
Bob Melvin??
Greg from LI : 11/13/2017 3:22 pm : link
I have faith in Cashman, but what the hell is that about? I thought they wanted a younger manager?

Gotta say, this process is looking kind of haphazard.
Yeah, these choices are not very inspiring.
bceagle05 : 11/13/2017 3:29 pm : link
Apparently Aaron Boone and Hensley Meulens are next in line.
Bam Bam!
Greg from LI : 11/13/2017 3:32 pm : link
That would be interesting, at least. First manager from Curacao!

Plus, he speaks Japanese, so there's that.
Braves name Alex Anthopoulos new GM
Jay on the Island : 11/13/2017 3:32 pm : link
Also Boston is interested in Stanton as well.
Bam Bam would be interesting.
bceagle05 : 11/13/2017 3:33 pm : link
Close with Didi, too. Of the candidates so far, he's the one I'd like best. David Ross is interesting, too, but he's just been rumored. I honestly never thought twice about Jerry Hairston.

Ha, just what I was thinking. And Spanish - and Dutch, so he and Didi can commune.

"He speaks five languages: English, Spanish, Dutch, Papiamento and Japanese."

I read Red Sox a darkhorse

for Stanton, but then read JBJ to be center piece of a trade (LOL), but other than that I believe Dombrowski would trade his son if he was a top prospect for a proven bat, no one is off limits for that guy. So I wouldn't count Boston out on Stanton.

Also MLB related, Mookie Betts bowled a perfect game yesterday. Verified at the World Series of Bowling. WTF?

Not a Sox fan, but I find that amazing.
Mark Feinsand is already floating Beltran's name.
bceagle05 : 11/13/2017 3:36 pm : link
Carlos has said in the past he has managerial aspirations, but I'm not sure if he meant this soon.
not THAT surprising
Greg from LI : 11/13/2017 3:38 pm : link
An MLB player who can hit has supreme coordination. Makes sense that one could be an excellent bowler.
This is beginning

To look embarrassing to me. I thought when Girardi was fired that Cashman had a plan and a person in mind, now look at this mess. I don't understand at all what the fuck Cashman is doing here. He has been so good the last few years with everything he has done that this is just looking real bad, I hope he isn't tripping over his fucking ego and trying a power play to get a huge raise, because that is what this is looking like to me. You hire a 500 K manager and it allows you to become the 5 mil GM now. Sorry if I am blunt as usual, but this looks and smells foul to me. I hope he comes up with a good choice, it's hard to imagine hi blowing it, but this has all stunk from the get go.

Five languages - amazing.

But as for Didi - he speaks English, so he can communicate just fine - in his 4 or 5 languages!

Just casting a wide net to find the right person to manage a bunch of talented kids. Interview away.

This is reading FAR too much into the situation.

Cashman made clear from the get-go that he was going to cast a wide net and see who came in and aced the interview process. He wants someone who checks off the "gets along with the clubhouse" box, as well as the "analytics" box.

I think the goal is for the Yanks to get as many differing styles in for interviews as possible and see what "clicks."

Personally, I think that someone like Meulens or Ibanez, who learned to step into new and often different environments and be able to handle the clubhouse is important. However, the Yanks are doing to right thing- don't just choose the latest "hot name" or first guy available- get the guy who fits what the organization wants- even if it takes a while.

Interview Carlos Beltran

.
I wonder how knowledgeable Beltran is on analytics?
bceagle05 : 11/13/2017 5:00 pm : link
You always have to wonder how much a guy like him wants to hear lectures from MIT grads, but that's what the interview process is for.

Sweeny Murti tweeted this morning that Beltran asked the Yankees in spring training 2016 to put Aaron Judge's locker right next to his so he could mentor him.
Would be interesting to see if the Jeter-led Marlins
mfsd : 11/13/2017 5:05 pm : link
would seriously consider trading Stanton to the Sox. I suspect Jeter wouldn’t care, I don’t think he’s carrying any residual Yankees loyalty with him in his new role.

From what I’ve read, the Cardinals can offer the best package of pitching prospects, thus are the expected front runners. Sox are considered favorites to target JD Martinez as the big bat they crave
I'm wondering about what trades the Yanks will pull off before
yatqb : 11/13/2017 5:11 pm : link
the Rule 5 lists are frozen. They've got a few guys to either trade or drop from the 40: Gallegos, Caleb Smith, Cooper, Herrera. But they sure could use a trade that would clear some of the guys on the fringes.
Cashman says Hicks in an everyday outfielder.
bceagle05 : 11/13/2017 6:06 pm : link
No surprise, but that would make Jacoby one expense reserve...

ESPN is reporting that Beltran is definitely interested in the Yankees job. I have no idea how he’d do but I absolutely hope he gets an interview. I trust Cashman enough that if Beltran gets the job it’s because Cash thinks he’s the best man for the job, and that’s exactly what I’m hoping for. It’s admittedly a preference based absolutely no data whatsoever, but I feel Beltran would be an excellent manager. If not now then down the road at some point.

Last time the Yankees had a prolonged manager hunt, they ended up with a retread with some pretty uninspiring stops along the way.

Could see the Sox build a Stanton deal around Benintendi. I would hope the Marlins set their sights higher than JBJ

With almost nothing in the farm they might move on from Bogaerts and Bradley and pick up a small ball SS.
