Bell is going to cost way too much, and the Giants can't afford to spend big money on a FA RB given all the other problems, not to mention the holes that will likely be created when DRC and may Jenkins are no longer on the team. (just my prediction).
McKinnon is a nice back, but not anything special. Not worth the FA cost. You can find comparable backs throughout the draft. The Giants RB stable next year is a good point of discussion. How this coaching staff has misused Vereen is just tragic. Watching the Pats on Sunday night was a reminder of what a good receiving back can do for you. When was the last time the Giants had Vereen matched up on a LB or Safety in the slot or out wide. Regardless, it looks like this is Vereen's last year with the team. Darkwa has earned a spot, and Gallman has some nice ability. I think Perkins becomes the new Vereen. Their skillsets are somewhat similar, in that they are dangerous in space and can turn a short pass into a long gain.
I understand the love for Carlos Hyde. He's a great back and underappreciated. However, I look at running backs much like I look at cars. You only have a certain number of miles in them, and given how undervalued RBs are in the draft, it's far easier to spend a 2nd-5th round pick on a RB who can produce for you. Crazy to me that many mock drafts have Stanford's Bryce Love going in the 1st half of the 2nd round. If he is there, the Giants should pounce.
Is who I want all of a sudden Perkins is gonna change into Shane Vereen ? Darkwa has stayed healthy for a change but
he still has poor vision and Gallman is never gonna set the world on fire and has some ball security issues IMO
We overpaid for Vereen we shall see if Darkwa remains healthy . We have a chance to get a generational type back
that would be a major help to a young QB like Webb .
Not sure how our cap situation is but we have 4 O-line FA's
to figure out Fluker Jones Pugh and Richberg.
OBJ and Collins to sign as well . Collins is not having a
great year but we need to keep this guy . Then you have DRC and Jack Rabbit ..
..Bell into the ground while he's on the tag. He's got 220 carries and will likely approach the infamous 400 mark that HB's seemingly can't recover from (even more if they make the playoffs which it seems they'll run away with their division). Signing him is paying for his decline.

I would sign him.

By design?
Rbs are below average. Darkway is a good #2 rb. I would like some elite talent at rb (ala Tiki) But you are absolutely right we do NEED linemen.
