He wasn't wrong about Cam putting in numbers we have never seen from the QB position before. I may be misremembering other things about that post but seems most jumped down his throat and tried to alter it as if he was saying Cam is a better all-around QB unlike any we have ever seen.
RE: I think Joe got way more shit than deserved for the Cam thread. Â

I think Joe got many of the responses he got because of his over the top arrogance. He knows his shit, particularly with basketball, but damn does he ever love him some Joe. He talked down to posters like they didn’t deserve to be in the same thread as him because he was so awesome. I always pictured him as the guy flexing in front of the mirror for hours at a time.
He'd sift through stats looking for any that would support his arguments and then ram those stats down your throat repeatedly. Meanwhile, he would completely ignore and/or discredit any stats that would weaken his arguments.
We all amplify some stats and diminish other stats to some degree when arguing, but he was off-the-charts with it.
And he WOULD NOT QUIT. He'd be up until 2am with his latest convoluted stat-contorting arguments.
How that made him a "great poster" to some people baffles me.
Who enjoys reading certain people's posts on sports. Joe was one of those people. He wasn't perfect by any means, but he was much better than many of the posters who now post here regularly.
Cam thread was hilarious. And then the Superbowl happened proving everyone's point. Cam is a coward and that lone play in the Superbowl tells more of a story than the stats during his MVP season.
He was just as likely to make a good comment as derail a thread by baiting people into arguments. And it was baiting. Post Cam Newton he tried to start fights over Andrew Wiggins and when no one gave a shit or disagreed he just carried on taking shots at his hypothetical opponent. Weird dude.
JoeMP/MarshallOnMontana was very annoying.

Agree with you there. He had a habit of pointing to a single game 7 to minimize the magnitude of the entire career of Kobe, simply to prop up the play of Lebron. A player who needed no help or convincing of his greatness.
Being a fan of certain players, and when they promote that fandom on an open forum they run the risk of getting beaten down when that player fails. Cam is an extremely good player (just watch last night's game). Joe definitely was over the top with his fandom, but he got ganged up on hard for that. I guess I don't see the point in driving off a decent poster just because he loves Cam too much. I'm guilty of that too as for awhile I was hopping on a bunch of threads defending OBJ after the dog pissing incident.

Very smart basketball mind, always had facts to back up his opinions and knew what he was talking about, but there was no give in his opinions. His whole purpose was to tell everyone his opinions and they never changed. Who wants to converse with someone so stuck in their opinions? There needs to be some give and take and with Joe it was all give. Let me just tell you how much I know.
He would defend every single comment he ever made as if it were Custer's last stand. Despite the many thought-provoking posts he made, talking with him always got tedious as hell in the end.
and his bullshit slagging of hockey fans was pretty damned bad Â
Joe would always crash (troll) NHL and MLB threads at the end of the seasons with his ratings. He reminded me of that guy who thought he was cool because he got a fast food manager job by 19.
Ronnie was cool until the end, he got a little weird...he always liked to joke but took stuff way too personal when things were said heading his direction. I hope he's doing....well.
RE: and his bullshit slagging of hockey fans was pretty damned bad Â
it was this thread (scroll toward the bottom). I remember reading his late night posts that next day and really laughing at them. For some reason it stuck with me since. He should come back, people here have done much worse. Link - ( New Window )
I always enjoyed reading his posts. He never really got into it with anyone, just talked sports which I liked. He did have some late night drunk posts which were pretty funny, but I do wish he was on bbi.
but as others have pointed out, he never conceded anything even if he was in checkmate. That said, I don't recall him resorting to insults in those type of discussions.
Stu used to give me a hard time when I first got here, but nothing serious. I understand how the old guard stuff works. I worked at a grocery store before! Shep and Beez used to come after me as well. Shep is just a funny poster, Beez you can slap him silly easily.
(Plus he kind of buried himself with that weirdo Pan post a few years back)

It was the other way around. He was the on who first phrased it like Cam was the best QB of all time or on his way. When people started piling on and he realized his position was questionable even through the lens of statistics, he backtracked hard.
If we aren't going to grant that cam has way less around him than eli

Then I'm done with this thread. The level of discussion here just isn't worth participating in. This is beyond absurd
I'm also starting to get hit with the realization that I have thought on and off for years, and that's that even maintaining a presence here or on any other Internet forum is a total waste of time. Pissing matches that aret with having with people who aren't worth talking to. Peace
He could be remarkably stubborn but honestly this place is much less interesting without guys like him, and others mentioned in this thread. Too bad Link - ( New Window )
Brett Favre throws back-breaking INT in the playoffs = Favre is a Hall of Famer who makes "aggressive decisions"
Given all of the circumstances, Favre's interception in that playoff game was sub-rookie QB caliber. A simple run out of bounds would have set them up for a very make-able field goal. A slide would have set them up to at least attempt a long FG with time running out. Instead, he made about the most egregious mistake he could aside from running 60 yards backwards and getting tackled for safety.
to see some of the classic Joe debates. This was nowhere close to the lengthiest but still pretty solid, after the Colts/Saints super bowl.
He loved ripping on Peyton Joey Nickels vs. Go Terps - ( New Window )
Joe comes out strong and Terps coolly blockers the insults away, while throwing a few jabs back. Then Joe started getting peppered with punches from multiple directions. He's trying to defend as much as he can, but people smell the blood. The punches keep coming and then Joe just disappears.
Go Terps and Joe arguing is mind blowing. Very similar in a lot of ways.
Ronnie sniped him?
The Cam Newton debate broke him. Pretty sure he just said "I'm out" right in the middle of it

Hard to forget him openly wondering why anyone would want to watch "a bunch of white guys skating around."

Yeah that dude definitely had some "identity" issues
Great poster, though!
Whatever happened to "Stu"? He was always a funny read...

My personal favorite: "Mark Sanchez's 2009 run in the playoffs was way more impressive than Eli's 2007 run."
