If Giancarlo Stanton is going to be on the move this offseason, it appears two of the previously rumored landing spots for the slugger have been crossed off his list. Stanton won't accept a trade to the Boston Red Sox or St. Louis Cardinals, a source told the Boston Herald's Chad Jennings. Both the Red Sox and Cardinals have been linked to the Miami Marlins outfielder, who holds a full no-trade clause, but it appears Stanton would prefer a trade elsewhere. A Peter Gammons report added that Stanton isn't fascinated by the idea of going to Boston, St. Louis, or San Francisco, for varying reasons. Another barrier in trading for Stanton is apparently the "shockingly high" prospect asking price from the Marlins, along with the 10 years and $295 million left on his contract. Apparently, those two issues aren't a stopping point for some teams, as the Giants and Marlins recently discussed trading highly regarded prospect Heliot Ramos in a deal involving Stanton, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. Stanton is coming off of a MVP-type season, in which he hit .281/.376/.631 with 59 home runs and 132 RBIs. Meanwhile, the Marlins are reportedly looking to lower their payroll before next season. |

Even if the Red Sox have the pieces to trade for Giancarlo Stanton, there's a belief the Marlins slugger won't accept a trade to Boston. Or to St. Louis, for that matter.

Just wild speculation, but two teams/cities that have been in some hot water with social issues in the last year
Wouldnt that be sweet? of course we would have no bench or pitching staff since it would cost a ransom to get him... but WOW
If they truly need to move his salary they may have to settle on a lesser package from a team like the Yanks.
C. Frazier and a couple of high-second tier pitchers may be enough
Hadn't thought of the "Jeter Factor". That may actually reduce the Yanks chances of making a bargain-basement trade, since Jeter may need to get at least equal value to avoid criticism.
Who am I kidding anyway. The Yanks likely wouldn't want to take on that contract.

I think youre the one in for a surprise. That package is laughable
Comparatively speaking its really not THAT bad of a contract for someone of his age and ability
Very good points.
They have a half dozen guys in their farm that look to be as good as those guys, and they already have the guys that were 3 pitches away from a WS win.
If he's got his choice of teams, why the hell would Otani willingly go to a team that has a toxic clubhouse year in and year out? Oh and they also love to kick players/coaches in the balls on their way out too.
Just because there are quotation marks around something doesn't make it true. Where are you seeing that?
