The offensive line seems to have turned a corner

ajr2456 : 11/19/2017 5:17 pm
Wheeler played well. Flowers has been solid for a few weeks. Jones has made more plays to the second level than Richburg ever has.

I'd let Pugh and Richburg walk and use the money to find a LG if one becomes available.

and a desperate team on Thursday.

The KC team just seemed somewhat lackadaisical today.
Maybe without Hali their pass rush just isn't the same.

If they keep Eli clean on Thursday, and can run the ball, I'll start buying into this Oline a little more.
It's definitely not as bad

Didn't he head butt someone last year that cost them a big gain?

I nonetheless still expect some lumps of coal from the OL the rest of the season.

This is 100% fact. Also easier to cover up deficiencies at guard
yet we have

agreed
I'd try to keep Pugh for sure

Richburg no I'd let him walk.
I agree with letting Pugh and Richburg walk
GeorgeAdams33 : 11/19/2017 5:57 pm : link
We should trade down in the draft and acquire LG-Quentin Nelson from Notre Dame and C/G-Billy Price from Ohio St. after re-signing Jones & Fluker and switching Wheeler & Flowers.

Wheeler has played one game, let's slow down on making him LT yet. And you absolutely cannot use the first and second picks on Oline
Fluker is brutal
BigBlueDownTheShore : 11/19/2017 6:19 pm : link
He can’t pickup a stunt to save his life. There was one play where Eli almost got crushed. Wheeler got to the stunt late, but Fluker has no clue and the De almost came free through the line.
I agree with you
PatersonPlank : 11/19/2017 6:25 pm : link
I'd keep them, I'd re-sign Pugh, and I'd let RB go if he wants too much (Jones is jsut as good). Then I'd use a high draft choice, like a #2, on a G like the ND guy. Then we could have FLowers-Pugh-Jones/RB-the ND rookie- Wheeler.

Its young and should be much better. Jerry can stay as a swing guy to back up with all-world Hart and Bis.

Crap. I had forgotten they played on Thanksgiving this year. I probably will end up missing this game.
Flowers playing well is a blessing. If Wheeler can progress
Matt M. : 11/19/2017 6:32 pm : link
from a nice game today, I agree that having two OTs is huge. Several weeks ago, it looked like we may have none. Now, we may have 2. That gives us more flexibility to let Pugh and Richburg walk. A few weeks ago, they were almost forced to re-sign Pugh. But, I wouldn't do that now, with his injury history. And Richburg had 1 good season out of 4 with some injuries mixed in.
Pugh
Rong5611 : 11/19/2017 6:43 pm : link
They will re-sign him. Wheeler's play is encouraging, let's see what happens. As I recall, he's a good LT prospect, perhaps he's the starter there next year. Put Pugh at RT and Flowers at...RG.

I want no part of re-signing Pugh. He is looking to get paid and there is no way a team with so many needs should be putting a lot of cap money on a player who can't stay healthy. Plus, a back problem for a 300 lb. OL doesn't usually go away.
If Flowers continues to improve
Bluesbreaker : 11/19/2017 6:49 pm : link
and finishes strong that will be a huge plus going forward
I think we see two new starters next season . I want
Barkley but if he is gone Nelson or Chub would be my nest
choices , I think we will let WR walk and there are a couple of FA guards and some good talent in the draft .
There are a lot of good RB's coming out as well we need a HR threat at RB .
Must have been the greatest 300 yards of offense and 12 points

score 12 points in 69 (heh) minutes and all is good if the other guys scored less. Score 21 but give up 40 and its the end of the fuckin world. Its still a giant heap of shit through and through.

Pugh is a putz. He’s being talking about getting paid since April. Yet, he’s barely an average lineman and constantly hurt. Just another wasted pick by the current administration, who’ll be gone after his rookie contract.

It may not be that bad, but it is still a long way from good, the running game was OK but still! Can't convert 3rd and 1!

Whose saying the team isn't a giant heap of shit? The offensive has played well the past couple of weeks.
Fluker is playing like garbage

I’d cut him right after season is over !!!

hassan : 11/21/2017 6:09 am : link
dont disagree there is a lot of work here still.

But people still killing flowers are putting too much blame on him.

And Pugh if he is resigned at a reasonable contract is serviceable as well as Jones.

That is a left side of the line and center. Need a right tackle and a guard. Hopefully this can be addressed.

The guy I dont want on this team is Richburg. Undersized and figured out by the league.
Really hesitant to even say the offense played well
Ten Ton Hammer : 11/21/2017 9:13 am : link
in 2017's NFL when you labor to score 12 points.

Turned a corner to very average
JonC : 11/21/2017 9:17 am : link
The group needs a talent infusion at all three interior positions, and I wouldn't pass on a tackle to push Flowers and Wheeler.

Let's see them start moving defenses to finish this season, perhaps then it will lessen the urgency to overspend via UFA.
hard to argue the O Line isn't playing better
LG in NYC : 11/21/2017 9:19 am : link
they are not the horror show they were when the season started. Our run game has improved and Eli has had noticeably more time to throw,

doesn't mean our offense has improved as a whole however... which suggests issues beyond just the O Line.

the good news is it may mean we don't need 5 new guys next year.
.
arcarsenal : 11/21/2017 9:22 am : link
Handing Bobby Hart a job for no reason out of the gates was such a massive mistake.

This offense could have been decent enough if the coach had figured out who his best offensive linemen were back in camp and if our WR's didn't all get hurt at once.

But, it's too late now.

The good news is that Flowers looks like a serviceable OT rather than the trainwreck everyone made him out to be. Fluker is a keeper. Jones can hold his own and we might have something in Wheeler.

We still need help - but the OL wound up being a little less of an issue than many thought they'd be. They were horrendous the first 2 weeks but things have slowly stabilized since.
Get rid of them all
HomerJones45 : 11/21/2017 9:43 am : link
This really is the 70's where a very average performance against a shitty defense seems good because there are so many bad ones. Mr. 9th pick looks great so long as he's not asked to hold a good defensive end for more than 2 seconds. Fluker will be stunted to death like he was in SD. He's a first round bust that Jerry Reach thinks is a bargain basement signing. The other jokers are average at best. The line seems servicable because so many of our pass plays are <10 yards. None of them are worth re-signing.

Don't fool yourselves. KC is not a good defense and does not rush the passer well (they are 23rd in the league in sacks). They also don't defend the run very well being 28th in yards per attempt. We averaged about 3.5. 300 yards total offense,

12 points in 69 minutes of football is nothing to write home about. Take the win gladly but don't think that this performance was anything.
.
arcarsenal : 11/21/2017 10:04 am : link
Get rid of them all is not a realistic solution. And also not necessary.
One thing I've noticed...
Dan in the Springs : 11/21/2017 10:10 am : link
is playing more tight ends has helped both tackles look better. It's one of the more infuriating parts of the offense over the past couple of years - that in spite of our tackles being obvious weaknesses we seemed to be one of the few teams who would provide little to no help.

Even when we would ask a back or TE to chip the DE it was almost always an adjustment made mid-game because the tackles were being abused, instead of being a part of the game plan.

Wheeler looked good in part because he got a lot more help from the tackles than Hart usually does. That's not to say that Hart is as good or better, just pointing out the help given by design.
