Tackle Chad Wheeler

Postgame vs. Kansas City Chiefs, November 19, 2017

Q: What was it like going against a guy like Justin Houston?

A: It was intense. He's a savvy veteran and has a variety of moves. He's pretty quick. I just had to stay in front of him.

Q: Coach McAdoo said it was a pretty quiet game for you. For a guy in your situation, that's a pretty good thing, right?

A: Yes, I had a quiet game, but that's a good thing. It's a testament to Eli getting the ball out quickly and D.J. Fluker helping me. It wasn't just my effort. It was a team effort.

Q: On Orleans Darkwa's touchdown run, how satisfying was it to get such a good push on your part?

A: It was Rhett Ellison and I. Rhett took his hip out and had a great down block.

Q: Was it especially challenging being on the right side, given that you have practiced so much on the left?

A: At first, it was but day to day, you get better at it.

Q: Was there anything that surprised you?

A: I was surprised by how quick Houston is. Everyone is good out there.

Q: How did you not let a name like Justin Houston get to you mentally and stay confident in that matchup?

A: I think preparation was a big key to it. We have a great group of guys. They have faith in me and I have faith in myself.

Q: Did you notice that the game started to get easier for you compared to the first drive?

A: Yes, it got easier. Obviously, he would have had some plays if Eli didn't get rid of the ball, so it was a good effort by him.

Q: What were the first couple of snaps like?

A: I had some butterflies. I was going against one of the top defensive ends in the league, so there was a little bit of a rush.

Keep working and soak up the experience.
I'll say this, our OL players are good guys

Flowers (pushing that reporter aside), Wheeler, Pugh, Fluker, etc. They just keep their mouths shut and work hard.
Good observation, Plank ...

Wheeler's a big tall dude with quick feet - always a good thing for a tackle. As he gains more experience and strength - "sky's the limit" !
Have to love the optimism the OL breeds nowadays

They've turned things around once OBJ went out. Seems like the pressure helped make the line solidify.
Some commitment to the run helps

Most linemen like running the ball. 2 TE sets are helping everybody.

Less 11 personnel.

Any time an OL-men has a quiet game that is a good thing. Congrats on a successful first start.
