team had a ton of guys on IR ,i just watched the 1980 game vs Dallas where we beat them ,They actually played really good that game and the game the next week vs the packers ,they only won one game after that beating Seattle .I think they shut them out too,Funny thing about that season is they never wore the home jerseys at Home only twice that year were they worn @ St Louis week 1 and when they played the Chargers in San Diego
attitude change. I can only speak from afar but the Giants inability to maintain a continuous level of success as Pittsburgh has, as New England has...even Philly has been consistently better over the past 20 years than we have. Difference is we have two SBs to Philly's none.
I really don't know how the Giants operate...I can only go on what I read and hear. But, it sounds to me like there are too many people in the organization who are there simply because they have been there for a long time. It seems that performance doesn't seem to matter. And there seems to be unwarranted nepotism in the organization. From what I can see, Chris Mara hasn't done a very good job and yet there he is, Senior V-P of Player Personnel. Same with Marc Ross and, of course, Jerry Reese. We seem to keep scouts long after their expiration date.
So many have said this is a crossroads for the Giants and I firmly believe it is. If we stick with the status quo...weren't there supposed to be major changes to the personnel staff two years ago but not much, if anything, has happened...then we will continue to be doomed. One or two good years followed by six or seven where we suck.
Position and title has to be based on merit...not familial connections. I want a consistently good team...year in and year out...not this up one year, down the next crap we've been dealing with.
"and quarterback Phil Simms was going through growing pains with 19 interceptions and 15 touchdown passes in his second professional season under Perkins. "
How about Simms was mauled all year becuase of the shitty OL they had and would up on IR with a separated shoulder by Week 13
I'm not saying it will happen but what if they win every game the rest of the season, where does the team rank then? Same team, same players and you have to do it all over again.

I agree completely. Love the Maras for what they've brought us over the many years, but enough is enough. This group is not doing a good job and should go.
What passed for analysis is woeful. First of all, those teams from the 60's-70's had nowhere near the talent the 2017 team has (or had given the ever swelling IR list). Second, what is the common thread throughout? Whatever the overall team talent was, the OL on all those teams was mediocre at best. Third, injuries. What the 1980 team and the 2017 team have in common is an incredible injury list. I remember Jim Plunkett's book about 1980 with his comment about the Giant D: "defensive players were literally introducing themselves in the huddle". Finally, no analysis of the team with respect to the coaches. 2003 and 2017 seem to be similar in that the team gave up on their coach. Arnsparger might have been a woeful offensive mind, but he laid the foundation for a defense that has been consistently (though not universally) good ever since.
It's about where the Giants are ranked.
The article mentions the only good side to the 1980 season is it put them in position to draft LT “number 1 overall”.
Typical lazy excuse for journalism from ESPN

If there's a football heaven, you know this season's football hell. Hell! Hell!
Dumb. Plain dumb.
more media stupidity.
