Defensive End Jason Pierre-Paul

November 29, 2017

Q: How did you react to the change at quarterback personally and is it an end to an era?

A: At this point, I don’t really think it’s about an era. If people are looking at it that way then they’re mistaken because Eli (Manning) is a good person, he’s a good quarterback. It was a decision that was made. A lot of people would disagree with it and you see what I see. So there really isn’t too much to talk about.

Q: Do you agree with the change at quarterback?

A: Honestly, it’s more than just the quarterback, you know what I mean? There are a lot of things that have been happening around here and we all see it, but I don’t think it has anything to do with the quarterback.

Q: Do you think that Eli should still be the starter?

A: The decision was made upstairs so I can’t really talk about that, I play defense.

Q: Do you agree with the decision?

A: I just said the decision wasn’t my decision. I’m just an employee. I’ve been playing with Eli for eight years now. I was honored to win the Super Bowl with him and he’s a two time MVP. Check his stats, record, his whole resume. He’s been here before me and he’s literally the last one standing.

Q: Do you think that he’s being scapegoated?

A: I think there are a lot of issues. Right now, we got to focus on football. The goal is to win, win football games and we haven’t been doing that lately and we got to approach the game that way. The decision has been made and there is nothing we can do about it.

Q: Do you feel like he’s being blamed?

A: Blamed for what? What’s he being blamed for?

Q: The fact that you guys are 2-9 and he’s now getting taken out?

A: Listen, nobody knows why the decision was made. I don’t even know. But at the end of the day, this is their call.

Q: Have you had any conversations with him?

A: No. Eli sits right there, actually he’s right there. You can turn around, he’s right there. And my locker is right here.

Q: If you were to say something to him about the change, what would you say to him?

A: Me and Eli talk every day. But mostly I say hi and he says good morning and that’s it.

Q: So coach (Ben McAdoo) hasn’t explained why the decision was made?

A: No.

Q: Is that surprising? Would you like to hear why?

A: Hey, the decision was made, you know? We’re a team and we stick by the decision and we stick with Eli. Eli is our brother and all we can do is support him. I’m going to be here to support him and we’re going to have fun together.

Q: Do you think this is hard for him?

A: I’m pretty sure it is. I’m pretty sure it is. I don’t know when he found out about it, but it was all a shock to us. Like I said, it’s more than an era, do you know what I’m saying? He never missed a game, it was more of an era for him. Eli is a type of guy, he wants to win. He wants to win games, but unfortunately, that wasn’t happening. Like I said, Eli is a great quarterback and the decision was made and we got to go out and play football.

Q: Do you think the change at quarterback is going to give this team a surge?

A: We got a lot of things to fix on this team. The players know and everybody else in this facility knows.

Q: Is the fact that he took scout team reps a slap in the face?

A: Not really, not necessarily. It was kind of crazy because I’m not used to seeing Eli as a number two personally. Still in my eyes, I don’t see him as a number two or a backup quarterback. I was just rushing and I just realized I had to stay away from him still because that is our quarterback at the end of the day.

Q: It doesn’t sound that you’re overly thrilled with the decision.

A: Like I said, the decision has been made. I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t know what’s going on, on that side of the ball. I play defense. I got to continue to do my job. Five more games left and I’m going to play my heart out for these five games.

Q: I can’t really get the tone on how you feel about it.

A: I know, see I’m just mellow.

Q: How do you feel about it?

A: How do I feel about it? I’m just mellow about it.

Q: Do players feel disappointed that they couldn’t do more to help?

A: Obviously a lot of players feel disappointed. He’s been our starting quarterback for eight years and I’m pretty sure he’s disappointed. But at the end of the day, I’m still here to support Eli. We’ve been through a lot of things together. I’m going to be here to support him as well as Geno (Smith) because that is our brother too as well. It’s an opportunity. It could be a hit or miss, but who knows? At the end of the day, the decision was made upstairs.
So McAdoo didn't explain the decision?

Weird because Shepherd said he did. JPP probably just wasn’t listening .

He was doodling big cartoon dicks on a notebook page, and Bobby Hart was giggling uncontrollably.
He sounds a little miffed though

Doesnt he? Maybe I’m misreading him

I bet it's even worse than we know, the whole DB thing aside.

I agree with this. I think after Big Mac is fired after the season ends we will hear all sort of horror stories about what really was happening.
I wonder if somebody stole Mac’s strawberries

He has only been the QB for eight years?

News to me.

JPP has to be one of the dumbest guys in the league - and not just because he doesn't know how long his QB has been on the team.

While Eli was fighting back tears in front of his locker, any reason why you were laughing and yucking it up about 10 feet away?
Is it possible that right up until that point
Bill L : 11/29/2017 10:15 pm : link
Nobody but Eli knew?

He’s always surrounded by a gaggle and it’s not like the coach see the players as people worthy of sharing this type of news. Maybe as Eli was answering questions most players thought everything was business as usual?

I took it as he's been his QB for 8 seasons.

How dumb are YOU?

He said, “I’ve been playing with Eli for 8 years”.

Reading really is fundamental...

Just a prime example what the Giants locker room has devolved into. If there's one team in the league that needs to flush the shit out of their franchise, it's this one. From top to bottom, including shit stains like JPP and Hart.
