How about Scot McCloughan as our next GM?

FranknWeezer : 11/30/2017 11:35 am
What are your thoughts on him as our next GM if Mara pulls the plug on Reese?

Certainly knows the NFCE. Well-respected around the league, except for Bruce Allen, who's got his own problems.
Players seemed to love him. Purportedly a fan of the bottle, though I don't believe people believe it affected his work.

Yes, it's common knowledge. It's the reason he was let go by both the 49ers and the Redskins.

He could drink Mint Juleps with Chris Mara :-)

He is a good talent evaluater.

I'd certainly give him a look, but there are red flags. If there is any truth to the rumors that came out of DC (and that is a big "if", considering what assholes Snyder and Allen are), no way.

Correct. I did't say that flippantly. See link, for instance.

But the drinking is a red flag and I would not want him in charge of a department.

My GM list starts and ends with John Dorsey.
is this a once a week post?

if so, I will keep posting Dave Gettleman should get consideration.
the hell with Dave Gettleman

Did nothing of note in Carolina and the Giants need a completely new regime, with no prior ties to the organization.
nothing of note?!

I'd argue that for sure.

They weren’t rumors it was 100% true. I’ve explained this ad naseum on this site.

Old or New-Owners Call

If they go old school, Pioli or even Polian are well thought of in Giants circles, but if they want a Tuna protege, Brian Gaine is certainly ready for GM duty. As for the next HC? DeFillipo (Phi) & Nagy (KC) are two coordinators that are going to be hot on the market. NE behind the door whispers have Bill think 2018 as a swan song, so their 2 coordinators are waiting for the shoe to drop, thus not being interested in Big Blue. Still, even with there record, Payton wants out of NO & has Big Blue roots. Will he want Tuna-like control though.
Go get Nick Caserio.

as part of the Redskin campaign to stain McCloughan as part of the ongoing internal feud in the Skins front office prior to his departure form the redskins.

that was a truly ugly series of event and he was certainly lambasted and had his character assassinated - or at least gravely wounded.

I have no idea what the truth is after that slander campaign by the skins against McCloughan.

He was thought to be loved and well respected until the skins turned on him.

From what I was told, no, but he does have his own scouting business/team that I wouldn't be opposed to them hiring to help with their board. But what I was told was frightening. He truly held up their entire off season program because he was drunk. Nobody could get answers on anything.

He was also removed from two previous NFL front office positions specifically because of his issues with alcohol. Not rumor. Documented and sourced fact.

These are some interesting names. Gaine is a local guy (from Rockland County) and DeFillipo is a former Giants coach (QC 2005-06), which we all know they love, but it would be a big jump from QB coach to head coach. Maybe a defensive HC (Mike Smith?) with DeFillipo as OC? Pioli wouldn't shock me at all either. Polian might be a little long in the tooth.

Mike Lombardi on radio or TV I’m fairly impressed with his knowledge about all aspects of the NFL - play calling, cap, personnel, etc...

I’d at least give him a call...
