Keeps pushing the narrative that Eli benched himself, says that Eli had the opportunity to continue playing, but chose not too. He keeps saying what Mara said in his interview, that Eli would play unless game got out of hand either way. That is NOT what McAdoo told Eli and he straight up told that to the media.
Boomer is one butt hurt F$& k! All he talks about is how much guys like Eli, Peyton, and other QB's make! He's insufferable at times.
I'm in that group of posters.

Francessa keeps saying it. I like Mike, but when he's wrong, even if he's proven wrong, he's never wrong. The veracity of what he's saying combined with a colorful take by the media has driven a lot of fans to react emotionally and strongly.
2) I think McAdoo does think Geno gives him a better shot. I agree Francesa is over playing what McAdoo said, but I think McAdoo was waiting for a chance to bench Eli to see if he can improve the offense with another QB to scape goat Eli to keep his job or advocate for himself with another team that might be stupid enough to hire him in another coaching capacity.
Also, keep in mind the Giants do not even have Webb ready to play. Everyone is like why Geno, I think McAdoo is happy to start Geno.

would have been much more well received by Eli. A blowout either way and we are giving Webb reps. Done and done.
You don't tell QB of Eli's caliber that he's only going to play a half of football. Its a disservice to everyone and McAdoo knew that. It can't be anymore clear what McAdoo's intentions were.
There is no doubt what McAdoo's intention was, I agree - almost spiteful. He has been hinting around it all year. He probably feels Eli is the reason why the offense sucks and that is why he (McAdoo) will be unemployed by Jan 7th.
But why can't you tell Eli he's playing half a game? He gets paid the same. You are saying Eli's ego is more important than the team? I'm not supporting the whole half decision, but I also feel that Eli is being a bit selfish (and maybe he has a right to be selfish.) Does Eli give the Giants the best chance to win - of course he does. But at 2-9 they are not going anywhere that needs Eli to win them a game.
Was it handled wrong? Yes
Was it proposed to Eli improperly? Yes
Did McAdoo do this to insult Eli? I suspect yes.
Did McAdoo go beyond what Mara said he could do? Possibly/Probably
Does the team have the right to play who they want, when they want? Yeah, they do.
Not a popular take on this, I know. (this will go over well!)
Bottom line you're absolutely right, he gets paid and the staff can do what they want. It sucks that they've been setting him up for this for a while. What I mean for the most part only calling him out by name when he's one of the only ones who show up Day in and day out!
F$&k Reese, McAdoo and so on, it just wasn't right.
Alright, your goals have changed and, given, the record, that's fine. But winning is no longer in the equation.
I also keep thinking how defense (or especially defense) players must feel. You risk pain and perhaps career-rending injury when you're the only ones serious about playing.
He mentioned both Favre and Montana, but were either of those guys benched or replaced mid-year? I was a little bit too young to remember how the Montana thing went down, but I dont remember either being benched or replaced midseason. I think every Giant fan would have understood the Giants moving on from Eli after the year.

...had it been presented without the definitive "one half apiece" aspect to it. Just tell Eli to be prepared for the fact that at some point in the game--even if it's still competitive--he may decide to replace him in order to get a look at the young QBs. By saying Eli would play one half and Geno or Webb will play the second half, it makes it sound too much like a preseason game.
Probably correct Milton.
Agreed!!!

Is it s happened to better quarterbacks than Eli. I think he doesn't warrant the attention it is getting

Montana was replaced by Steve Young. Favre by Rodgers.
c'mon
Favre, Montana and Manning all moved on in the off-seasons. Interesting enough, Steve Young was briefly benched for Elvis Grbac, but that was in 1994, early after he took over from Montana.
I was too young to remember if Namath was benched before going to LA.
It is part of the reason the situation is causing so much uproar. Almost every person is united in thinking eli deserved a better way to be benched.
I never listen but today I was and caught that...what a crock of shit...
I'm not trying to make excuses for McAdoo, heaven knows he has fucked everything up and can't handle the media, but the press is digging for a story and, at this point, hoping he'll misstep in one of his responses because it makes a bigger splash.

I truly think his misstep was this fiasco, and may have sealed his fate. I never thought I'd say this about a Giants team, but I think they're tanking. They want to make sure they're in good position for a top pick for the next regime. I think McAdoo is a goner along with Reese. This theory all depends upon Mara, is he really a bumbling fool, or is he waiting them out and will clean house at the end. That is the million dollar question.
agree

an Eli injury, there's really no logical rationale to get Geno snaps. Hell, if our plan is develop a young QB, he shouldn't even have been on the roster and webb should've been the backup.
That's what people are infuriated with.
It's impossible to know what the staff planned for Smith if Manning had opted to play.
Smith is being forced into the equation much more because opted not to play.
?? The point others are making (validly i might add) is that its one thing to want to give Webb reps... but Webb isnt ready this weekend - hence Geno is starting... so there was no reason to approach Eli now about the streak. This conversation, then, should have happened with just 2-3 games to go in the season, at which point with home games and not much time left ... maybe Eli's reaction is different.
In fact, if the plan is to get a look at Webb... then you should cut Geno now, and make Webb the back-up QB for the last 5 games (or move Geno to practice squad whatever).
There is no upside to giving Geno snaps. That's not racism, as someone above mentioned Boomer insinuated. Its having seen Geno's body of work with the Jets, and in this past summers preseason. Its having witnessed him sleep in through games on the west coast. Its seeing his (lack of) professionalism with teammates that led to broken hands from fights. Etc.
Why isn't he on the radio in Cincinnati where he was a good QB instead of NY where he's just another in a long line of Jets QBs who didn't get it done.

that McAdoo said Geno gives the Giants the best chance to win. He and his tirades get fans frothing at the mouth based on nonsense and inaccurate comments.
Boomer has been a refreshing breath of air. He's been logical, not emotional, taking everything into perspective.
He DID say it. I heard him that day. Also said that he can help them win the 5 "important" upcoming games.
Boomer is a giant phony. Mr. Partiotism clean cut all American boy on Sunday and potty mouth yuck it up enabler of vularian moron Craig Cartoon during the week. Screw him.
We all can read the transcripts. He didn't say it.
