Started off pretty average at best, but hes been hot lately. I will be tuning in tonight, as he is the QB I want on the Giants if we do end up drafting a QB. It is vital for him to have a big next 2 games, between tonight and the Bowl game he will play in.
I think he is a big game QB who has the nerves and "it" factor you want to see in your QB. He was great in last year's bowl game, looking for the same this year.
I’d expect the Giants to trade up if not in the top 2.
If Barkley establishes himself as the clearcut best non-QB in the draft, the Niners won't want to trade back any further than the 3rd pick, so the cost of going from #3 to #2 may not be too steep.
Thanks for the heads-up. I am going to DVR this one just like I did the USC-UCLA game so I can reference them closer to draft time.
Right now, I like Darnold for the Giants because he has elite ball placement and is very slippery in the pocket. He has a ton of Russell Wilson in his game except he is 6'4. Similar release, mobility, and arm strength (not quite elite arm strength but very accurate with good ball placement).
Yep, I refuse to get too excited until we get into the top two. Hopefully Garoppolo goes on a tear over the next month.
I have a good feeling that Jimmy will pull out one of these next 2 games (vs Trubisky or vs the depleted Texans w/Tom Savage at QB). If not, he has 2 home games against TEN and JAX, both teams that are very beatable despite their records.

All the Giants have to do is reference the price that the Bears paid to make the same exact move last year (albeit for a lesser prospect than Darnold/Rosen in Trubisky). I believe it was 2 3rd rounders and a 4th for the Bears to move from 3 to 2 last year. Looking at it now, that is quite a steep price but worth it for a Franchise QB and the Giants would be willing to make such a move if history proves anything.
I think this draft is a minefield for the Giants Â
has the temperment of Eli as well as being a hell of a talent. He is the perfect fit for our team. I have been saying since last year that I wish we could have him on our team but I thought it was a pipe dream because like everyone else I thought we would be pretty good this year. Now that we suck and have a chance I am all in on Darnold.
how in gods name are we going to pass the browns? Â
you are dead on. I am a huge SC fan and have watched all of his game. He is the perfect temperament and skill set for NY. Rosen is good as well but I see warning signs with his personality. I don't want Mayfield. His crotch grabbing, flip of the bird personality is Johnny Manzeil like. He would be destroyed in NY. All these people saying Darnold is having a bad year make me laugh. Are you kidding me. Their team plays the toughest schedule of the top QB's and has thrown 24 TD's with 12 INT's. Granted he went 31-9 last year but cmon, he is 20 years old!

Don't agree with the Rosen personality concern. I think he's a really bright kid with a lot of curiosity. Nothing wrong with that. I can see him being very dependable Mayfield is a clown and too small. The most overrated player in this draft at a skill position.
I see a lot of Favre in Darnold, minus the arm. And Darnold's arm is very good. Darnold has a really sturdy body, so I think he's ready for the NFL pounding. Plus, there seems to be a decent amount of pocket awareness where he senses the rush pretty well and can make plays outside the tackles. But man does he need to learn to accept a play isn't there, take the throw away or loss, and move onto the next play...if he gets that, and that's purely coaching, then there is a lot to like...
this kid is only 20 y.o. How many 20 y.o. QB's have you seen with the poise, arm strength, touch and ability to throw accurately on the run like Darnold. I totally disagree with those who think Rosen is superior. Not that I would not settle for Rosen if Darnold is not available. He is very talented but Darnold is a much better fit for this franchise/city
Speed off the edge. Quick pass rush moves. May be a slight bit undersized. But if you put him on a defense in a rotation where he can get 40-45 snaps in a game, he will make an impact like Osi did.
Is that he throws one of the best looking balls you'll ever see. He floats it when he needs to float it and darts it when he needs to dart it. Every throw is a perfect spiral. His great passes look even better, the football comes off his hand like its CGI. Does that make him overrated though? Because when he makes a terrible throw, it still looks good as he does it. It's easy to write off. He's an interesting prospect, very boom/bust.
Best QB out there. Hell, he even interviews like Eli. Humble as hell. I will take him over Rosen without even blinking. I cannot remember the last time I saw a 20 year old QB with his poise in key and high pressure situations.
If they go on to win their bowl game as well it would make it easier for him to declare than if he felt he had unfinished business at USC. He won't have a national title on his resume, but it will still look pretty damn complete. And what would be the chances of him winning a national title next year if he returned compared to the chance of him suffering a season-ending injury?
p.s.--My early, poorly informed impression is that Darnold has Ben Roethlisberger upside and Rosen has Peyton Manning upside.

Not sure that really matters considering he won the Rose Bowl last year already. I can’t imagine he won’t come out. There’s nowhere for him to go but down the draft board if he doesn’t.
In my opinion Darnold is a true "modern" QB and can do a lot of things Eli can't in the "modern" game such as run a true spread offense (with lots of errors!) and can run plays off the zone read as in play action and running plays. He also has pretty good footwork and seems like he can be elusive - everything a guy like Macadoo wants in a QB.
I really think that this is the reason why Eli is being made "obsolete" here and Macadoo is trying to prove his scheme and approach can work with a QB of Darnold's skillset, which apparently Geno and Webb are closer to than Eli.
Depends. If they think there are 3 QBs worth taking in the top 3, they wouldn't have to.
I suspect it's Darnold or Rosen or trade down if the DE or LT crop isn't good enough as suspected.
I’m really hoping theres a new GM in place with a better philosophy than the one Jerry Reese swears by and hasnt been working. And I hope this new GM is smart enough to see the value in a franchise, high-character talent at RB and picks Barkley.

He showed a lot of poise and command during the game.
Nothing better than when backed up in his own end zone with 6 min to go or so, he never stopped looking downfield, took a few steps up to move coverage and then hit his guy downfield for a massive gain.
That was a game-clinching play really. I am fine if he shows up in blue...
and the Giants being in a position to draft one is even more rare. The timing is perfect with Eli at least on the downside of his career. VERY unlikely we will be in this draft position again within the next 2 years and likelihood is there won be as strong a QB class. No way in hell do you draft a RB in the first 3 picks if 2-3 franchise QB's are out there. Barkley would have to be Jim Brown or Walter Payton part 2 for me to even consider, and he is far from that.
The separation between Darnold and Rosen may be huge. This isn't like 2004.
That's the problem I have. In my opinion, Darnold is the best, but not necessarily the can't miss you want in a #1 pick. But, he is likely to go #1. After him, I think there is a drop off to Rosen, Mayfield, and Jackson. I actually think Jackson may be the best of the 4, but his size is scary to spend a top 3 pick on, as it could end up limiting him.
Barkley may really be the best player available, but they seem unlikely to take him.
Rosen might be more ready to play as a rookie, but with any of these guys, their first year under center is going to be rough.

Stanford is so Jints of the '80s and early '90s. They pound the piss out of you...
And SC has a lot of youth and NFL talent (Stanford has some NFL talent too)...

I think Lamar Jackson is worth a top 3 pick. But that's me.

Titans
Jags
@ Rams
We really need them to win at least 1 of the next 2.

(I'm kidding. OK, half kidding...)
Don't get me wrong, Rosen and Mayfield look talented, but Darnold feels like more of a NYG fit.
The fit depends on what offense our new coach runs, but I too am leaning toward Darnold, although I like Rosen a lot.
Dont worry. The Browns will draft the wrong one
I don't think it's huge. Don't see it as Manning/Leaf.
Judging by how they have gone about drafting the past couple of decades, I wouldnt bet on them to make the right move.

Not as a QB, he shouldnt.

Does it tip it for you if you know that one of these guys averaged 100 yards rushing too and can destroy you on the ground?

Jackson is 6'3 215
It's not like he's Doug Flutie
