LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Russia’s Olympic team has been barred from the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The country’s government officials are forbidden to attend, its flag will not be displayed at the opening ceremony and its anthem will not sound. Any athletes from Russia who receive special dispensation to compete will do so as individuals wearing a neutral uniform, and the official record books will forever show that Russia won zero medals. |
This is great news and an appropriate punishment for the blatant and widespread doping of Russian athletes in Sochi. I was expecting a weaker sanction like no anthems/flag raising.
Vladdy is going to get maddy!
Team IOC!
Hooray! No corruption involved with that organization.
MRGA!

the competition won't be the same. will be be worth watching without russia?
I was a 19 year old sophmore when the Olympics were held in nagano, the first time that pros were allowed to compete, and went to bars/ stayed up all night to watch the Team Canada games. 20 years later, with 2 young kids and a full time job, there's no chance I will be watching any of these games with or without Russia!
Well with that set up you may be able to get up at 6AM and catch the 1st period of a game that starts at 8PM Seoul time
Somewhere around 50% of their athletes are clean, those are the people I feel badly for.
Someday I am going to figure out how to watch Netflix and this will be on the list. Until then, get off my lawn...

Its called Icarus. I saw it when it was released a few months back. It's basically about an amateur cyclist who documents his supervised doping to see if it will help him compete with the best on on the amateur circuit. He does it under the care of a doctor and with insight from one of Russia's top anti-doping directors.
for sure..
Eaaaasy there, dopey.
many russian ex-pros planned to play (Datsyuk, Kovalchuk, Markov, even Ovechkin said "I'm going") now at least if the hockey won't be elite level like it has been at recent winter Olympics it will be somewhat of a level playing field.
Russia getting banned from the Winter Olympics. Real story.
Nice to see where your priorities lie.
So do you only believe the news when it confirms your biases?

It isn't about being fair. It's about being honest with ourselves for the good of the country. The "fake news" lunacy has got to stop.
