LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Russia’s Olympic team has been barred from the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The country’s government officials are forbidden to attend, its flag will not be displayed at the opening ceremony and its anthem will not sound. Any athletes from Russia who receive special dispensation to compete will do so as individuals wearing a neutral uniform, and the official record books will forever show that Russia won zero medals.

hockey just got worse, I wonder if some of those guys who were sitting in the KHL just to play in the Olympics (NHL is not participating this year) try and get out of their contract and become available to the NHL.

Team IOC!

This is great news and an appropriate punishment for the blatant and widespread doping of Russian athletes in Sochi. I was expecting a weaker sanction like no anthems/flag raising.

Vladdy is going to get maddy!

Hooray! No corruption involved with that organization.

I was a 19 year old sophmore when the Olympics were held in nagano, the first time that pros were allowed to compete, and went to bars/ stayed up all night to watch the Team Canada games. 20 years later, with 2 young kids and a full time job, there's no chance I will be watching any of these games with or without Russia!

Well with that set up you may be able to get up at 6AM and catch the 1st period of a game that starts at 8PM Seoul time

Somewhere around 50% of their athletes are clean, those are the people I feel badly for.

Russian athletes will still be allowed to compete in February in South Korea if they can show they have passed rigorous drug screening protocols. And they will wear uniforms that identify them as an “Olympic Athlete From Russia” instead of as an independent athlete.

Its called Icarus. I saw it when it was released a few months back. It's basically about an amateur cyclist who documents his supervised doping to see if it will help him compete with the best on on the amateur circuit. He does it under the care of a doctor and with insight from one of Russia's top anti-doping directors.

hockey.

many russian ex-pros planned to play (Datsyuk, Kovalchuk, Markov, even Ovechkin said "I'm going") now at least if the hockey won't be elite level like it has been at recent winter Olympics it will be somewhat of a level playing field.
So let's get this straight..
Modus Operandi : 12/6/2017 12:18 pm : link
Russia collaborating to fix or tilt a foreign election - confirmed by virtually every Western intelligence agency. Mutiple meetings with top level transition staff concerning nixing sanctions and disseminating, sought by transition team. Director of National security lies to the FBI and then cops to it for a plea deal. Not a real story.

Russia getting banned from the Winter Olympics. Real story.

Nice to see where your priorities lie.

To be fair, that's a fairly normal human trait without much exception.
Come on Bill
Modus Operandi : 12/6/2017 12:35 pm : link
Do you honestly believe the Russia investigation, including all the damning evidence that continues to fall out of the sky daily, is a fake news story?

It isn't about being fair. It's about being honest with ourselves for the good of the country. The "fake news" lunacy has got to stop.
No, I beloieve it to some extent
Bill L : 12/6/2017 12:39 pm : link
but confirmation bias is all over this site and every other site. It's pretty normal.
So long as you're on record

As sorta, kinda, maybe on board with the thing the majority of the Western world know happened. Minus 35% of the US.

Forgive me if I think it's a multi-faceted issue.
