Maybe because it was Ernie Accorsi who pushed to draft Eli? Maybe because he was a previous GM? You can bet they will at least request his input on a selection of QB if it comes to that.
has he shown any particular aptitude for the football side of the business since he became involved in 2013? Really, it's been one pratfall after another. Take comfort in the fact that they retained a consultant.
to recognize their limitations and deficits and bring in someone to bolster those areas.
John Mara also has a lot of other responsibilities, both for the league and for the team. So going to a trusted consultant who can invest additional time makes sense to me.
I would have been more excited to see Bill Parcells involved than Ernie Accorsi, but Accorsi has been active in the league pretty continuously. I get what they're doing. At least, I think they do.
Nothing wrong with that.
Even if they don't ultimately go with Accorsi's recommendation, he brings a different viewpoint.
this is a moment that will change the course of his business. it's good to have a little help.

Most Fortune 500 companies hire executive recruiting firms/consultants to find C-level replacements or to fill new positions.
We can get on Mara for a lot of things, this isnt one of them.
Accorsi's done it for a few teams. Polian has done it for a few teams. Casserly has been consulted several times.
It's probably now the norm more than the exception.
