you've mentioned Marvin Lewis a few times over the past couple days. How would hiring this guy bring any sort of excitement to this organization? He's been in Cincy for 14 years, just over a .500 win percentage, their team routinely comes up small in big games.
Maybe I'm not seeing it, but Lewis does not seem like a great candidate here.
No thanks to Marvin Lewis. That would be a terrible move. Â
a retread on the coaching carousel now. Lewis never won a playoff game, his teams are notoriously undisciplined and ZogZerg makes a valid point about burnout.
raise the "energy level", I don't think the energy level has been an issue since the San Francisco game (with some individual exceptions). The defense has certainly raised it's level since the Rams/Niners debacles. The offense is what it is and I don't see how that changes with Eli coming back, unless we run the ball like we did against Denver. Add to that Sean Lee is expected to return and that makes a serious difference for Dallas.
John Fox is not the same coach that he was as the DC of the Giants. His energy level is greatly diminished. I think he had a tipple by pass did he not? Marvin Lewis has never won a playoff game with a Bengals team that should have won at least one of the seven that he has lost. He is no Mike Tomlin when it comes to coaching. The Bengals front office has done a good job assembling talent that Lewis could not manage to win a single playoff game with. Contrast that with the ability of TC to coach two teams to Super Bowl victories with less talent than the Bengals. Therefore, Lewis is not a good fit either, in my opinion. I like a coach who has shown that he can do the most with the least, and not a coach who had done the least with the most. Of course you want to place your coach in a position where he has more talent and not less. A coach who has won with less should be able to excel when he has more.
RE: And with that said, I am making a list of 10 guys I would look in to Â
Thanks Sy I look forward to it. Is the list going to based on guys you are hearing they are interested in, your preferred candidates, or a combination of both?
RE: RE: No thanks to Marvin Lewis. That would be a terrible move. Â
I know the talk is going to be about finding a GM and a coach and with a top 3 pick perhaps a new qb next yr...
but...
Wow this team is in need of 1 (maybe 2) tackles, 1 (maybe 2) guards, and a center going into next season. It's almost immaterial who is coaching or playing qb with an OL this bad!

The OL can be fixed with one signing and one hit on a draft pick
The most interesting thing from this week, in my opinion, was the Perkins sighting. Raw deal? I don't know. But, I said last week, the worst part of the OL play the last two (or more years) is that is really makes it almost impossible to evaluate our current RBs. Are they as bad as the numbers, or is this OL just so bad that just looking mediocre in the running game is a big accomplishment? This could come into play if they fall to 3 or 4 in the draft. Do they take Mayfield or Jackson, or do they do with Barkley, who I think is the best player in the draft? Is a backfield of a combination in some form of Perkins, Gallman, and Darkwa good enough with a decent OL?
As for Dixon, I loved his hustle and closing speed. What I didn't love was his man coverage. He got beat at the line consistently. Some poorly thrown balls, coupled with his speed, allowed for him to make a couple of plays.
It's the Cockrell, Dixon, Thompson etc. stories that are going to make December football watchable.
Wondering if you're looking for a different emphasis on certain formations/personnel groups in the Sully/Eli version of the offense in the Dallas gameplan(?). I'm in your camp, rooting for some more Ellison.
was trading a 7th for Cockrell. I hope that they re-sign him because he has a chance to start opposite Jenkins next season if DRC is let go and Apple doesn't grow up. Hopefully he agrees to a deal in the 4 year $10-12 million range.
needs to get some time these next 4 weeks - at the expense of Vereen. I think he's lost a step and we need to see if Perkins can be his replacement next year.
I don't think a trio of Galman/Darkwa/Perkins is a bad combo, even Galman/Perkins with the receiving trio of Sheppard/Engram/OBj coming back. Our other tight ends serve a role and Eli is Eli. We just need to improve our line, get healthy and have a winning scheme and our offense will improve significantly.
Should he be a WLB? He hits like a truck. When he tackles people, they GO DOWN. One of the best tacklers I have seen in a very long time.
He is limited going backward, at best mediocre, but good Lord he is phenomenal attacking,
I think he is playing at 218, but easily could carry 225/230.
Any chance he could move to WLB? He even blitzes well.

I wouldn't want to restrict him to LB, I like how much he can move around from the S position
Do you see the Giants going after a center in the draft?
Also would you expect Pugh and Fluker to be brought back next year?
Thanks for all your analysis. Top notch.
I'm not sure, its all about whether they sign Richburg or not. Billy Price would be a solid 2nd round pick...Plenty of OG/OC experience, can hedge their situation there.
All depends on the new faces that will be running the show. Pugh is injury prone, but he is by far the best OL on the team. Fluker, I do like him as a starting RG.
Is Billy Price the "1 draft" you were thinking when earlier you responded the line could be improved with 1 draft hit and 1 FA?
I ask in particular because it's likely the Giants go QB with the first pick, and Price could be the 2nd draft hit.
Or, is Price just a coincidence to both replies.
I would complain if he was the 34th pick(assuming we had that pick).

I didn't have anyone in particular in mind when I said that. But he is certainly a guy that could be a hit for this team
I was thinking the same thing Eli back in the saddle and
the team will be amped up enough to overcome Dallas .
Looking forward to who you like in the draft to get
the giants some help going forward .
I felt kind of bad for Geno you could see him mad at himself becuase of getting a chance to shine and coming up a bit short . I feel much better now that they have fired
Reese and MacHandley that was a gut wrenching week for
many of us . I still want a premier RB I would be ecstatic if they took
Barkley gets some LB help and shore up the O-line .
It might be enough to make a push next season I still feel
Eli can get the job done but MacHandleys offense never was a good fit with Eli I have no idea why they made him the HC but glad he is gone !

BTW my " would complain" was supposed to be "wouldn't complain". I missed that twice. Sheesh!!!
Maybe I'm not seeing it, but Lewis does not seem like a great candidate here.
Seriously, no on Lewis and Fox. Re-treads that didn't even accomplish shit when they were treads.
And John Fox would be worse. No thanks.
that will be a nice present thanks
