Bloodletting begins in Cleveland - Browns fire Brown

ZogZerg : 12/7/2017 10:55 am

Shepherding a team with a 1-27 record over two seasons, Brown was the subject of increasing criticism for passing on a pair of brilliant young quarterbacks -- Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson -- in back-to-back drafts while Cleveland remained stunningly bare at the position.

Disaster of a franchise. Hopefully this won't be the Giants in a few years....
Cleveland Browns fire executive VP Sashi Brown - ( New Window )
With this move, it also makes Hue safe for another year.
Diver_Down : 12/7/2017 10:57 am : link
It will complicate their FO search as the new guy will be hamstrung with Hue.
Rumor has it the owner wants Peyton Manning
bceagle05 : 12/7/2017 10:59 am : link
to run the football operation. Maybe that will get Darnold out of USC.
I wonder if

DePo gets let go too.

and returns to baseball.

I'd much rather have him as the heir apparent to Sandy Alderson than Ricco or Riccardi or other names I've heard.
So what happens to Paul DePotesta?
johnnyb : 12/7/2017 11:00 am : link
What a head scratcher hiring him in the first place.

I would think Hue Jackson is safe for another year. It really is not his fault the front office is so dysfunctional.
hmm

wondering why this happened a two days after we let go Jerry Reese?

I bet he gets this job
Reese to Cleveland? hmm..If Joe Thomas doesn't come to him...

Reese will go to Joe Thomas!

It could be a possibility, but Ian Rapoport mentioned that Dorsey has been linked to Cleveland. I think the Browns don't want to miss out on any prospects so they want to get into the search while we are still looking.

Haslam is the one who orchestrated the disaster of a hiring down at the University of Tennessee. Peyton Manning is part of the final interview process there.

There is a rumor that when Eli hangs them up, that the Mannings want to buy and run their own Franchise in the NFL.

if they hire him
Rocky369 : 12/7/2017 11:07 am : link
with Scouting in mind, Browns might be able to get something going finally.
They kept kicking the can down the road
Modus Operandi : 12/7/2017 11:13 am : link
On the most important position in the game. Everyone thought they were brilliant the last few years after bringing in a baseball guy and loading up on picks by trading down. I was one of the few dissenters here and killed them for trading down and not grabbing one of the top two QBs.

This is be a cautionary tale. Go get a top QB you believe in and the build the team around him.

I still...
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/7/2017 11:17 am : link
think if the browns had kept Derek Anderson they'd have been a lot more successful than they have been and could've avoided the fiascos of some of the QB signings/drafts they have made.

I don't think teams should force a QB - Jaguars with Gabbert/Bortles, for example - the Browns issue was that they just got the analysis on those two guys massively wrong.

Do they really have that kind of money? These franchises are worth billions.
The fundamental problem here
Modus Operandi : 12/7/2017 11:24 am : link
Isn't the lack of a GM. It's the total cluelessness and meddling of dumb ownership. I feel for Depodesta.

The existing organizations, sure. An expansion franchise in Memphis (let's say) wouldn't. The NFL would certainly love it. The fans would love it.

Even worse the Browns have drafted a bunch of QBs in rounds 2-3. Shit they even drafted a couple in the latter stages of round 1. They are a mess.
They are apparently keeping Hue Jackson

Darnold passes on draft
Reese drafts Rosen

this could turn bad as well
Rocky369 : 12/7/2017 11:52 am : link
if you believe Mara inked McAdoo because he was scared that Philly was going to nab him. Might rush to sign someone that doesn't get proper attention.
I'm not sure the Browns do go QB in the 1st round
PatersonPlank : 12/7/2017 11:53 am : link
They drafted Kizer high in the 2nd last year, and seem to think highly of him. They have also have thrown him into the fire, and are working through the rookie growing pains.
They need a lot of things, but if they think Kizer is the guy then they may look elsewhere.
the Browns issue is they have put
Rory : 12/7/2017 11:57 am : link
themselves in a box where they are so dam scared to draft another QB and have it fail before them.

They continuously build off the wrong formula.

They draft rookie QB's to start when they have no play makers

They draft playmakers when they have a backup QB starting.

I have a feeling alot of this is fallout from the non AJ Mcaron / Jimmy Grap signing

How would Reese know the Giants plan for HC?
God I thought we sucked at picking in the top 10

Browns Top 10 picks of recent

Trent Richardson 3rd! Passed on Luke Kuechly and Fletcher Cox...
Barkevious Mingo 6th! To be fair this was an overall awful/weak first round IMO
Just Gilbert 8th! Passed on Odell, Donald, Martin etc. smh

Myles Garrett looks like a stud at least he didn't fuck that one up, that would have been almost impossible
It seems like the Browns didn't want the Giants to get
ZogZerg : 12/7/2017 12:12 pm : link
too far of a head start on the GM search. Maybe they are worried that the Giants may be interested in some of the same folks.

Hue Jackson reportedly is done with Kizer and wants another QB. After passing on Wentz and Watson there is no way ownership will allow them to pass on another potential franchise QB.

I have a Bad Feeling about the Giants drifting back to those lost years. Think about THESE last two years---- Coughlin is Gone... Reese is Gone...These Guys are The Giants!!!..... and now Eli is on the Doorstep!!!!!!!

Blame it on Time.... I've got some Hunch that it can be blamed on Mara as well---- They are about to Cut The Line that goes all the Way back to Geoge Young.

George...Accorsi...Coughlin, Reese...and soon Manning..... this cuts all the way back to 1986....Forty-two years ago???

This is Lost Treasure, with little in sight.
