you Mets fans, the Mets equivalent would something like David Peterson.
Law says he's an average starter but polished
Eric on Li : 12/7/2017 5:26 pm : link
doesn't seem to be a top 100 guy even though he was one of the Mariners top guys.

The Mets don't have a similar player but I think this is going to be a move they end up regretting passing up. I think Gordon would have been a great fit for what this team needs.
Looks like a solid trade
Jay on the Island : 12/7/2017 5:29 pm : link
for both sides.

David Peterson would likely be the equal value. Either way at that cost equivalent it was would have been pretty significant for the Mets. The Mets top 5 pitching prospects are Peterson, Dunn coming off an AWFUL season and shoulder issues, Szapucki (TJ will miss 2017), Molina (stuff down in 2017) and Kay (yet to throw a pro-pitch). Just wasn't in the cards. I can't blame Sandy for this one.
Mariners get 1mm

Trader Jerry reportedly had interest in Lagares previously. How much do the Mets have to add to him to land Gordon? (assuming of course the Gordon CF stuff is BS) #Mets #Mariners
There goes any small hope for an Ellsbury trade to Seattle.
bceagle05 : 12/7/2017 5:57 pm : link
I think he'll continue to be the most expensive bench player in history.
I think I would have done Peterson straight up
Eric on Li : 12/7/2017 5:59 pm : link
and definitely would have done it if we could have also used international money to sign a really good international prospect too (if any of the Braves guys are left or something).

A deal around Lagares + for Gordon could make sense for both sides. Especially if the Mets are actually considering making a run at Cain.
M's going for it

I wonder if the Yankees floated Ellsbury and 3mm in bonus money for a bag of balls. The timing doesn't get better.

Why would anyone take Ellsbury's contract unless the Yanks were throwing in prospects and paying a portion of his salary?

Keep in mind that Ellsbury has a FULL no-trade clause, and hasn't shown much interest in moving. I think that the only place he might consider is the Dodgers- who MIGHT be a fit- but only if they took on the salary, which might be a no-go for even them.
Sucks
JoeMoney19 : 12/7/2017 7:51 pm : link
he was the second baseman I was hoping the Mets would get.
I think the Yankees will use the DH spot
bceagle05 : 12/7/2017 8:04 pm : link
to clear the OF logjam, especially with Ohtani off the table. Trading Ellsbury always seemed like a pipe dream. Money aside, who would even want him for three years?
