just how many Nazi war criminals got away and moved to South America. Many went completely unpunished. (And a handful worked for our government programs.)
there was Tom Lehrer's song about the Nazi rocketeer who came over here to help us keep up with the Russians, good old Wernher Von Braun.
"Don't say that he's hypocritical, Say rather that he's apolitical. Vonce the rockets are up, who cares vere zey come down. Zat's not my department" said Wernher Von Braun.
"In Russian, or English, I know how to count down. Und I'm learning Chinese," said Wernher Von Braun.
"We have a compound for you just outside of Montevideo, here on the map. The rest of us will be nearby. You'll have to shave that silly mustache though, and maybe slick back your hair. Just try and blend."
I did watch a bit of the Season 3 preview just for laughs, which were duly provided when they met a guy in Argentina (or wherever) who swore his dad worked for Martin Bormann.....and they acted as if this were true, or even possible.
Martin Bormann died in Berlin in 1945. That's a proven fact. His remains were found in 1972 and proven by DNA testing in 1998. Link - ( New Window )
RE: I enjoy the show, just subtract Hitler from it
But not any of the major, recognizable figures of the regime. The ones who successfully made it out were relatively anonymous figures like Eichmann, Mengele, and Franz Stangl.
physically ill person beyond the mental. There is no way in hell that he could physically escape from Germany. From the bombing injuries he was dibillated and a junky. His nerves were shot and could not possibly make a trek cross country on foot.
Hitler died in that bunker April 30th with Eva Braun and Goebbels' family.
Hitler never completely recovered from his injuries in the July 20th bomb, likely had Parkinson's, and was on an unknown number of drugs administered by his quack doctor.

Yep, he along with other captured Nazi scientists. We just beat the Russians to him and they beat us to others. Didn't he get 10 years for using slave labor to build the rockets or was that Albert Speer?
Speer got off very lightly - he received only 20 years. He was very successful at pulling the wool over the Nuremburg prosecutors' eyes and convincing them that he was a reluctant member of the regime and just an apolitical technocrat. He deserved death. He was the one who constantly demanded slave labor for the Todt Organization. Meanwhile, Fritz Sauckel, the man who provided him with slave labor, was executed. If one deserved death, they both did.

Thanks Greg. I remember Von Braun used slave labor in the caves in Norway where the rockets were designed and fabricated. Guess he was "too valuable" to execute....
Speer was a committed Nazi through and through. Von Braun cared for little but his work. He joined the Nazi Party out of political expediency, and while slave labor was used at Peenemunde, it's uncertain how much of that was his doing, if any. In any case, the US government cared more about beating the Soviets than ensuring that every Nazi scientist faced justice. There were much more egregious cases from Operation Paperclip (the program that brought German scientists to the US postwar) than von Braun. Hubertus Strughold, for example, likely was involved in horrifying experiments on live humans at Dachau.
it's intentionally selective about what it shares, makes various historical errors/omissions and the guys come across as very dilettantish - couldn't watch it even as a joke.

Odds are he's probably dead by now

Never tell me the odds!

It's really a show about architecture, engineering and planning/design.

They were weak an' I was strong,
A little too ambitious maybe,
But I never loved Eva Braun.
