SUCKS, and until he is out of here this will continue, he gets a guy that knows what he is doing, but can't keep him, if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know then nothing will, and if anyone thinks he will ever coach in the NFL, that is a complete joke. No NFL franchise is that stupid.

If you were Elko, why would you stay with Kelly? The guy is a complete prick who has commands no loyalty has been at ND for almost a decade and hasn't even won a major bowl game. The only thing I don't get is the logic of people who defend this prick.
I don't follow ND all that much, but I remember before we hired McAdoo a few folks around here threw Kelley's name around regarding decent college coaches that might be candidates.
What happened to him? Did he achieve early success with the previous coaches players and flame out when they were all his? Something else?

I think Kelly is a descent coach. He got Notre Dame to a natty, but the program just isn’t what it used to be.

He did better with Weis' recruits than Weis did, but he hasn't really done well at ND. He's lost 4 or more games in 5 of 8 years, he's had constant sideline tirades, choked an assistant coach during a game, his teams also tend to get worse as the year goes on.
It's hard to blame ND or recruiting restrictions for his failure given the comparative success than Stanford has had (and Kelly is 2-6 vs them), and his losses to Duke, Navy (2X), Tulsa, Northwestern, etc.

He's a decent coach, but is that really the best that ND can hope for?
No program would be what it used to be after hiring 3 failed coaches in a row. Look at Michigan under Hoke, Alabama before Saban, Washington before Peterson, Texas after Brown had checked out, even the recent USC teams.
away from Brian Kelly as soon as possible. Until Kelly is fired, Notre Dame won't achieve consistent success.
Has nothing to do with Kelly and everything to do with wanting to be paid a shit load of money. ND should be willing to pay but they aren't. I'm not a big fan of Kelly, but this is an indictment of the administration and not him. The administration simply will not go all in as far as spending money, and they have no reason not to, plenty of donors ready to write those checks
You mean after he threw them under the bus and almost caused a freaking team mutiny? Kelly obviously isn't a bad coach, but there's nothing about him that will engender any warm feelings toward him. I'm still stunned they let Elko get out the door. Are we even remotely serious about this sport anymore?
In completely unsurprising news, Equanimeous St. Brown Â
has declared for the NFL Draft. When he took that horrific spill going after a horribly thrown ball by Brandon Wimbush, I knew right then and there that he was going to go pro. No sense in risking a professional career chasing after wobbly, inaccurate passes.
Two strikes today. What else can go wrong?
(BTW, I'd love St. Brown on the Giants, but I doubt he's around in round 3.)

Either way the situation is a disaster. The university has spent $400M on a (ugly with a stupid jumbotron) renovation and they are going to let an elite coordinator leave over $300,000 a year (supposedly ND offered $1.5M per year to Elko according to Mike Vorel of the South Bend Tribube)? How does that make sense?
Hopefully they try and hire a good coordinator instead of just bringing in someone that Kelly knows from Cinci/Grand Valley State or do something lazy like hire Bob Diaco.
Makes complete sense. Kid is a stud and RBs have limited tread on their tires compared to other positions. Nothing left for him to prove in college.
I'd love to see the Giants take a shot at him in the mid-rounds. He was having as good of a year as anyone until the wheels came off of Kelly's offense.
to replace Elko. Weird that they'd feel comfortable having someone who zero coordinator experience run the defense, but hopefully the continuity will make up for that. Elko was apparently a really motivated and good recruiter, so it remains to be seen whether Lea can match up him there.
ND's offensive line coach (who has done a great job grooming numerous NFL studs) is apparently leaving the team to join the Chicago Bears. Amazing that Kelly somehow couldn't make the playoff once (and went 4-8 one season) with an embarrassment of riches at the OL position.
Texas A&M hires Notre Dame's Mike Elko as defensive coordinator - ( New Window )

Competitive is probably 400-500k less per year. They have a weird definition of competitive.
The administration needs to make winning their first priority, they haven't in a long time and no big coach would come as a result
