Fluker was our best run blocker this year and had a positive meeting with Gettleman. He’ll be a key member on the line if we commit to establishing a run game.
But I dont think he is going to want another 1 year deal. He had a pretty decent year this year and most likely earned himself at least a 2 year deal somewhere.
Hire a head coach, an OC, and an OL. Then assess whether a one-dimensional road-grader like Fluker is a fit for the new offense.
Ideally, fill the other holes on the line first, because adjacent personnel will go a long way toward determining whether you maximize Fluker’s strengths or expose his weaknesses.
If gentleman's ideal game plan is to run the ball consistently, then you definitely sign Fluker. He is a road grader, put him and some other 330 + lb guy on same side.
Assuming that the previous coaching staff was as bad as everyone thinks, all player decisions need to be started from beginning.
Rebuild interior OL/DL/LB, then figure out who QB of future is.
Just think what a very good running game would mean if Giants were at home in playoffs this week.
yes, especially if they return to a more tradtional GIants power Â
offense. FLowers and Fluker could be physically dominating in the right kindof offense where OLs are expected to beat people up, not sit back and wait to be rushed.
I, unlike proabbly all of BBI, Am OK with a 2018 line of Flowers, Jones, Richburg, Fluker and Pugh. I would still draft a guy and keep Bisnowaty and Wheeler around, Jerry should be done here. Not many F/A OL guys better than our own.
he so bad at pass protection, that it can't be said enough.
He was serviceable in this wash of a season, but he is one trick pony, that will get a QB killed eventually.
I have no problem with him as a backup, but pass as a starter.
That was the story line when the Giants signed him, and we did see him struggle with pass blocking during the preseason; mainly on plays where the DL ran stunts. But he actually performed much better as he settled in as the starting RG during the regular season.
For sure..Even consider longer if it was Giants friendly Â

No way... he nearly killed Eli by not picking up stunts in the regular season as well.

I have always liked this approach. It may be old school, but the pass rush was always slowed down a bit due to a combination of the Hog Mollies wearing down the DL, and the DL having to play honest to cover both the run and pass.
Not a chance of him accepting another 1 year deal. Â
if the guy to his right had a clue as to what he was doing. He probably can be part of the solution but not if the right side is a jailbreak on every play.
be inclined to give him a two year deal. Some of this I admit is desperation because the OL is a complete mess, and Pugh and RIchburg may not be resigned. Fluker definitely has problems in pass protection. Having Hart next to him didn't help, but he was released largely for that reason despite being the 11th pick in the draft. But he can run block. He should be a backup, but next year would probably be a starter by default.

You are just wrong. His pass protection is fine. You need to watch the games he played and the pre-season. He misses at times when there is a stunt, but it is unclear if it is actually his fault. Also if he had more time to work with the first team that would likely improve. BTW the first team was Bobby f'n Hart. Once he locks on its over. He is the only lineman we have had since Snee that can give a push.
him at one guard spot, Flowers at the other, a FA RT and center, and let Wheeler fight it out with some talented higher round rookie that can play either tackle spot for playing time.
West is a C,, Fluker a RG so can't say if I would want one over the other. Pugh is finesse, while Fluker is a road grader, so if all things were equal it would come down to the type of O the new Giants regime wants to run. As it is, Pugh has back issues which should be concerning.
Flowers at RT or RG and Fluker at RG or RT is likely at least “serviceable”.

That needs to be looked into, IMO.
There is a reason why a guy drafted 11th, was released....

They should grow together
They should get some young players
While Fluker was decent at blocking for the run he is still a liability in pass protection
Also it would be nice to have guard that can pull

I think that would be very solid in run blocking and not too bad in pass protection if they get some time to work together.
