the GM is ex-NE and was close to Patricia. It's also a decent place for a defensive coach, as most of the building blocks are there on the offense so if you make the right OC hire you should be able to concentrate on fixing a very so-so defense.
Strong candidate, but something about him concerns me. Can't really put my finger on what it is.
Maybe it's just that I can't shake the feeling that Belichick still runs that defense, and he's kind of along for the ride. Or maybe that no Belichick disciple has had sustained success after they left New England.
Wilks is my preference. Has been since the start.
Although, with a team that hasn't scored 30 points in basically two years, maybe an off offensive mind wouldn't hurt.
....reports have said he could bring Panthers linebackers coach Al Holcomb with him as defensive coordinator. A former Giants assistant coach.
I'm appreciative for what Spagnuolo has done in the past, but I think a change is needed. He's coordinated some of the worst statistical defenses in the league. Including finishing second to last this year in total defense.
Our offense is the bigger problem, haven't scored 30 points in 2 seasons. The league is much more of an offensive league than it is a defensive league. I want an offensive minded HC.
Wilks has been a DC for one season. I want someone with alittle more experience than that as our next HC. McAdoo was our OC for longer than Wilks was a DC, and he still managed to look like he was in over his head quite a bit. This is a big hire for the next number of years. I want someone with more experience leading us into the future.

Ahhh Rivera took the Turner offensive philosophy with him to Carolina. They made it their own with Cam. I’m sure Wilks could get someone to bring that philosophy here and that would be good for our offense in general.

I think it’s Wilks. I think he’s the last interviewe for a reason. See if the other candidates wow them first if not Wilks gets the job.

You're worried about a guy who has limited coordinator experience because of McAdoo, so your preference is a guy whose HC resume is almost identical to McAdoo's. Do I have that right?

He's got the last interview because the other candidates are available this week (because they're either on bye or unemployed) and he can't be interviewed until next week by rule because the Panthers are playing this weekend.
I think it's likely to be Wilks also, but I wouldn't read too much into the interview schedule.

much longer than McAdoo was before he got the job. I don't think any of these guys are the perfect hire, but I'll trust anyone, including McDaniels, far more than McAdoo at this point.

For the last time McDaniels, Patricia and Shurmur had to interview this week. Wilks was unable to interview until next week. Nothing else to it
And no I’m not saying that because they are both black DCs. They just seem to have the same demeanor. No nonsense guys. I don’t see Apple acting up or DRC or Javkrabbit missing practices with Wilks in
Charge.
I think he would be good for Odell, who needs a coach he both loves and fears.
The lack of HC experience is worrying, especially after BM. But I have s feeling the Giants D would be nasty under Wilks

You miss the part about offense?
I ignored it because I don't think McDaniels is an offensive genius. The Patriots' offense got better, not worse, when McDaniels left. And he was OC for one of the worst offenses in NFL history with the Rams.
Detroit was the favorite to land him with Bob Quinn as their GM.
I'm still hoping for either Wilks or Shurmur.
.
I don't know if Mara will allow Dave G. to hire a coordinator with only one year of experience
as a coordinator in Wilks?
After what went down with McAdoo, I would be surprised
if he allowed it. Who knows, if he interviews really well, it's possible.
Shurmur is interesting, seems like he could handle NYC.
He was part of the problem. He's not getting the job. But whatever moistens your panties.
I will be VERY disappointed if Spags is back here,
the only assistant I would consider keeping is Patrick
Graham as the D Line coach, he has only been here about
a year. To me, the rest of the assistants can go!
And bring. In a vet offensive coordinator with head coach experience..
I think wade Phillips does a lot for the rams...
Agree, would NOT bring him in unless that is what he planned to do. Young up and comers at coordinator positions either fail, or they succeed and leave. I would like coordinators who are good at that job, but are not good HC candidates and wont leave.
Me too. I want to see a good HC on the Giants. Someone who can make the offence a weapon again.
Then why do you want McDaniels? Have you seen what his offense looks like without the friendly confines of Belichick, Brady and Ernie Adams? Let me help: 11th worst offense of all time in 2011 with the Rams. And his HC record is a carbon copy of McAdoo's.
examples of HC's who made their name as defensive coaches who have decent or better offenses. Dan Quinn is one. Bill Belicheck is certainly another. Mike Tomlin.
Hiring a capable OC is often the thing that makes the difference.
RE: Pass on him, I'm not into the hat on backwards thing Â

So, you don't like Patricia because he wears a hat backwards and don't like Shurmur because he "doesn't have enough charisma"
Some real hard-hitting analysis going on here...
I agree
It's his beard....and you dont want to put your finger on it
Zero chance that happens.

Maybe John DeFilippo, QB coach of the Eagles, or Ken Dorsey, QB coach from the Panthers.

And they’ll be gone in a year if there’s success.
That would mean the Giants offered him the job already, so my guess would be no.

Not necessarily

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean that Patricia chose the Lions over the Giants?
Not necessarily
Little bill told him to lay off the Giants.. its his job

I'm not sold on Patricia either, but this has to be the worst reasoning I've seen. Well done!
