NFT: Rangers @ Arizona

Anyone else watching this trainwreck? Shattenkirk takes a penalty for knocking the net off the moorings, then Duclair (of course) scores on the ensuing Arizona PP.

Brutal fucking turnover

As yet again the puck is treated as a grenade
At least Hayes is ok - I saw him on that shift

Wouldn't it have made more sense for Pavelec to start against Arizona and use Hank tonight?

Not unheard of for starting goalies to get their choice of games - and especially out of conference - choose to stat pad. 😀

But also I think hank faced Vegas in October and OP faced Arizona at the garden... so maybe they wanted to give these teams new looks too
Absolutely dominated

Brady Skeji

looks like he's already on his bye week. The coach is a huge problem, but a lot of these guys are playing like absolute garbage. Simple stuff not being executed
Could have used another goal scorer tonight
Kyle in NY : 1/8/2018 12:13 am : link
Good grief.

Actually thought they hung in there alright considering the competition, a back to back, and losing Hayes early on. The defensive lapse for the winning goal was brutal though. Stuff like that just happens too often. Team looks sloppy and the coach is holding them back

Maybe the week off does the players some good. AV, I've lost all hope for him though
I went to bed after the first period

Am I losing my mind or was Hayes not out there for Vegas' first goal?
Rest of the Metro went 5-0-1 yesterday
MetsAreBack : 1/8/2018 9:24 am : link
Of course
Losing Hayes last night hurt ... he's been playing well

Defense, Alain Vigneault style

Isn't AV on his third defensive coach?
BrettNYG10 : 1/8/2018 10:03 am : link
It's awful.

Benching Buchnevich is infuriating.
how does an NHL team just completely ignore one side of the ice??
Greg from LI : 1/8/2018 10:06 am : link
They had four guys back and yet somehow there's a wide-open one timer?

that's like men's league defense. hard to blame the actual D there, it looked the play started as a 2 on 2 and the back-checking forward also picked up the 2nd forward (without the puck) and no one picked up the 3rd guy (who wound up scoring).

happens all the time in my league (LOL).

It was really probably Nieves guy, but without seeing how the whole play developed not sure I can say that with certainty.
....
BrettNYG10 : 1/8/2018 10:12 am : link
Buchnevich is treated much worse by AV, but Vesey is much lazier and worse defensively. Both should be in the top-9, but the relative treatment is just bizarre.
yes, it was probably Nieves' man
Greg from LI : 1/8/2018 10:13 am : link
I didn't mean "defense" as in the defensemen specifically, just the overall team defense which is so shoddy.
Well you are going to occasionally have breakdowns on D
MetsAreBack : 1/8/2018 10:55 am : link
we have them too much... but last night they seemed to play an OK game on the road against a good team on a back-to-back, etc.

The issue with this team is offense - scored more than 2 regulation goals in 5 of the past 16 games now. The top lines are cold, the defense hasn't contributed at all offensively, etc.

Also havent won a regulation game since Anaheim 12/19... thats 8 straight games without winning 5-on-5, which is what you have to do come playoff time anyway.
Offense struggling
Kyle in NY : 1/8/2018 11:00 am : link
You'd think that would compel the coach to give his most talented young forward more ice time and reunite his best line combination. Instead he gets scratched and Paul Carey is in the top 6

What the hell is this guy thinking? Did he even get pressed on it last night post game? The beat guys covering the team are horrendous.
He was.
BrettNYG10 : 1/8/2018 11:02 am : link
Said it was the right thing to do given the match-up.
The team is already missing their top goal scorer from last season
Greg from LI : 1/8/2018 11:10 am : link
So, yeah, put the highly skilled guy in the press box so an AHL grinder can get more ice time.

Amazing.

I was late to come to the "AV must go" bandwagon. I know some here called for it after 2015-16. That seemed harsh. But this has got to stop. Management cannot possibly like what he's doing here, right!?

I think the Rangers will never win a Cup as long as he's behind the bench, but apparently management is content to let him run the roster into the ground. Every time the press asks him about these bizarre lineup moves, he just says something like "I just felt that for the tonight it was the right thing to do". Infuriating.
Might have been a motivation tactic
MetsAreBack : 1/8/2018 7:02 pm : link
I guess I'll wait to see if he rolls out this same ridiculous lineup against the islanders next weekend before going too crazy.

But of course he's benched Buch for extended periods in the past. Gorton can't be too happy.
