If you had the Browns #1 pick...

STLGiant : 1/7/2018 12:10 pm
who would you select or would you trade down?
You run up to the podium
JoeyBigBlue : 1/7/2018 12:11 pm : link
And choose Sam Darnold.
Trade down a few spots
Earl the goat : 1/7/2018 12:16 pm : link
And take Minka Fitzpatrick with that pick
At 4 I would take the QB
Grab a RB in second

Putting Peppers and Fitzpatrick together at safety sets ur defense up for years
Fuck it
Jay on the Island : 1/7/2018 12:17 pm : link
I would take Darnold at 1 and Mayfield at 4.

+1
I was joking

But the more I think of it it isn’t that terrible or an idea. You’re increasing your odds of finding a franchise QB and best case scenario is that you have a great backup for a few year that you could flip for a huge return. The Browns have three second round picks as well to strengthen the rest of the roster. It would never happen but it is fun to think about.
I would take best qb who ever that is to them
superspynyg : 1/7/2018 12:21 pm : link
and then Fitzpatrick at 4.

What I would do if I was them, is what Redskins did when RGIII was drafted and take a qb at 1 and then if there is another guy I like in rd 4 I would take him.
They have to go QB
ZogZerg : 1/7/2018 12:24 pm : link
Especially after they botched the Wentz pick
Take Barkley #1
BigBlue2112 : 1/7/2018 12:26 pm : link
then Mayfield #4
It doesn;'t matter ....

they blew last year by not taking Wentz or Goff. What were they thinking? Now what are they going to do - force a QB pick and risk a possible bust? I would trade and get the hell out of there so they are not in a position of pressure to force a QB pick. They aren't going anywhere soon. They could find a franchise QB in the next couple/few years.
I don't think there will be a viable trade partner for the Browns
eclipz928 : 1/7/2018 12:32 pm : link
for the #1 spot assuming Denver gets their QB in FA. I'd bite the bullet and go ahead and take Saquon Barkley #1, then listen to trade offers for the #4 pick.

A team like the Redskins or Bills may be willing to jump up for the chance to get whoever is left between Rosen/Darnold. They can collect more draft picks, including a likely #1 for 2019.

This would work best if they pick up a FA QB prior to the draft to give Kizer some competition and provide another year to evaluate him. Someone like Tyrod Taylor or Sam Bradford might serve that purpose.

If Kizer isn't the answer they can just try again next year - but I don't believe the Browns can draft another QB in this draft unless they're 100% sold on that guy being a legitimate franchise QB.

The Browns have a lot of talent. They need a Qb and a competent HC but they are close. If they find their QB they should be the lead dogs in the afc north soon with the Steelers and Ravens getting old.
They need a QB.
Section331 : 1/7/2018 12:36 pm : link
They can’t messs around and screw this up. Take Darnold or Rosen, whichever they like best, but they can’t go into next season hoping Kiser is the answer.
Darnold
BigBlueDownTheShore : 1/7/2018 12:42 pm : link
For sure.
They
Sammo85 : 1/7/2018 12:55 pm : link
are 100 percent taking a QB.
Darnold
Eman11 : 1/7/2018 12:56 pm : link
Is who I'd take but I have a feeling the Browns being the Browns are going to fall in love with Allen at the combine. They'll feel like he's the makeup pick for passing on Wentz and grab him.
Trade down
HomerJones45 : 1/7/2018 12:59 pm : link
They could trade down a few spots, pick up some picks and still draft a qb. That assumes that they have given up on Kizer.
The Browns are obviously in a good situation...
Milton : 1/7/2018 1:06 pm : link
...with lots of favorable choices.

If you assume that Rosen is off the table for them, but is the obvious choice for the Giants, the Browns could safely put off drafting a QB until their pick at #4. And in that case, Bradley Chubb, Conner Williams, and Saquon Barkley would all be good fits for them with the #1 pick, although I'd prefer Chubb or Williams to Barkley based on the depth at RB in this year's class compared to DE and OL. Chubb and Garrett would make for a great couple of bookends along the DL and Thomas and Williams would be a great set of bookends along the OL (with Williams moving to OLT when Thomas retires).

Assuming the Jets or Broncos or another team trade up to the #3 spot for a QB, they would still have two out of three to choose from among Darnold, Mayfield, and Allen. And if Indy keeps the pick they would have their choice of the three. Alternatively they could bypass all QBs and spend pick #4 on who is left among Chubb, Williams, and Barkley at the time. And then use two of their three 2nd round picks to move back into round one and grab a QB (with Jackson and Rudolph becoming options along with whatever QB among the big four drops)

Look for the Browns to trade one of their three 2nd round picks for Alex Smith. Smith's presence will mean they have a year to develop Darnold, Mayfield, or Allen without having to push one of them into the starting role. They could also continue to develop Kizer, so their QB situation will be much improved next year.

I think Rosen is the best prospect in the draft, but if he makes it clear he doesn't want to go to Cleveland, it just becomes a headache worth avoiding for them when there are other QBs to choose from. And if they land Alex Smith via trade, there won't be any urgency to get the rookie QB on the field sooner rather than later.
if Kizer was a mistake
old man : 1/7/2018 1:13 pm : link
Take your favorite QB...then your choice of DE Chubb or Fitz or Barkley or if any grade out possibly a OLT if Thomas retires.
if they think he wasn't a mistake...and Giants go QB...they get 2 of the above 3 most likely with the 1 and 4.
they cant screw up unless they grab 2 " reaches". Or trade 1 of those top 2 spots for more picks; this is a nice draft to get players w/ #1-4-33-37-and Philly second round. Plus the '19 draft where even if the win 5 gets them a top 10 pick most likely.
Maybe they should trade their pick for as many 1st rd picks they can
SterlingArcher : 1/7/2018 1:18 pm : link
get and pick all of the qb's available! That way maybe they can find a good one.
Browns will pick Josh Allen
averagejoe : 1/7/2018 1:42 pm : link
and he will bust. Hard. Giants will pick Rosen. Darnold could drop to Jets so they can repeat the Sanchez years.
Take Barkley 1 and Mayfield at 4.
larryflower37 : 1/7/2018 2:12 pm : link
Giants will take a QB(Darnold) and Indy will take Chubb/Fitzpatrick or OT.
Good chance indy takes Barkley if he is there.

Only worry is someone trades up to Indy spot to steal Mayfield.
maybe the browns
Mr. Nickels : 1/7/2018 2:32 pm : link
should take two qbs
I would take Darnold
Reb8thVA : 1/7/2018 2:47 pm : link
And try to trade up with the Giants and draft Chubb. Chubb and Garret would be formidable on defense.
If they have a conviction on a QB take him first
Reale01 : 1/7/2018 3:17 pm : link
If they like several the same then trade to someone who wants to jump ahead the Giants and take QB at #4. They need to take a QB
Cleveland and 49ers
Chip : 1/7/2018 4:39 pm : link
both over 100mil under the cap. Salary escalation to continue.

Peppers : 1/7/2018 4:59 pm : link

This.

They gotta get the QB thing right. If they trade out, the league needs to step in and take that team lol.
If I were the Browns
JohnF : 1/7/2018 5:26 pm : link
1) Keep the #1
2) Offer picks to the Giants for the #2 (swap with #4 and some of those extra high draft choices I have this year).
3) Draft Darnold and Barkley.

Would be nice if the Giants had the top 1/2 choices in the second/third round, for example, along with the #4.
