Steve Wilks claim to fame is 1 year as DC of this Panther D
So far, 244 yards of offense allowed. 3 TD drives allowed. Brees has a 151 QB rating. This is just in one half of football
Forget takeaways or sacks, the Carolina D has managed just 1 QB hurry and only 1 tackle for loss. Ie no pressure at all
But don't worry. Wilks is gonna command that room at halftime and lead men in the second half
Bring in someone with some depth to his resume. It cuts down on the guess work considerably.
There haven't been many DC's to knwo how to stop the Saints, but carry on as if he's supposed to make him look like Bortles in a monsoon or something.
So this isn't surprising really.
But overall I haven't been impressed with Wilks gameplan/playcalls today.
He's focused on stopping the run, which hurt them immensely in the first two games. His secondary however is being left in man coverage and they've blown a couple assignments too.
That's not all. That's too simplistic. A HC has to be intricately involved in knowing what his OC/DC are working with, what they're proposing, how it integrates to the overall gameplan.
They have to be involved as an executive/manager of all operations.

The Giants are hiring someone who can LEAD & INSPIRE the players. Someone who can handle the job. Not hiring a DC.

What you're describing sounds more like micromanaging.
And I don't know exactly how much of this you can place directly on Wilks.
It just seems like a hasty assessment.
Sure hope they aren’t overselling this whole commands a room thing.

I disagree. I see micromanagement as much more controlling. That is not what I delineated. A HC has to be informed because he is accountable and must hold all others accountable. He has to be knowledgeable and communicative. He should feel empowered to suggest changes or provide "counterpoints" to certain ideas or plans.
Although I will say a lot of great HCs have been seen as micromanagers if not outright accused of being so.
Also, has Spags gotten an interview for anything else at all? Are we really gonna consider him for anything?
So, he's not just being considered beause he's a Gettleman Guy.
And finally, Wilks was a coach for the Panthers before Gettleman was hired there as GM.

It's really hard to sell a one year coordinator on this franchise right now after what we just went through with a couple year coordinator in McAddo. Hard pass.
They are sacrificing their secondary in doing so and it hasn't paid off so far.
Brees is picking them apart.
How did his defense do against Shurmur?
Seriously. If someone doesn’t want to know the scores yet, why the fuck would they open BBI? Or the internet in general?

IT certainly has kept them in the game. Cam scores here some how they go ahead.

And, fwiw, the saints have scored three points in the second half, so he did something right in the locker room at halftime.

24 points nearly midway through the fourth quarter in the super dome is not a bad performance.
NO hasn't done a lot lately.

If you told any DC coming into this game it would come down to Ginn and Josh Hill the DC would take that every time. Carolina has shut down the run. They’ve shut down explosive pass plays to Ingram/Kamara. Thomas has been pedestrian. They’re only 5 down with 9 minutes left. All things considered, I think the plan has been ok win or lose.
That doesn't bother me, Carolina isn't a great team, but they are a good team.
They look pretty good hanging in versus a really good team
Thats not true
Gettleman didn't draft Cam Newton or Luke Kuechly or hire Ron Rivera
Ya know, the actual good parts

He drafted the guy who just scored that td! You guys are miserable
I’m neutral on Wilks but rushing yards allowed is not necessarily meaningful when you allow 350 yards passing

Well, in his first year as DC, Carolina was 8th in YPG, 10th in PPG, and 3rd in rush yards per game.
The Carolina D has just given them a chance to win and this thread was started in the 1st half.
Then again, somebody started a thread talking about Jacoby Brissett being a sure-fire star after literally a quarter of play in a game he ended up having three turnovers in and losing.
It basically means we have a lot of reactionary dumbasses here.

The problem is they’re losing and all those tertiary players are still beating their better defenders. I understand the game plan, but it hasn’t worked.
