Steve Wilks claim to fame is 1 year as DC of this Panther D
So far, 244 yards of offense allowed. 3 TD drives allowed. Brees has a 151 QB rating. This is just in one half of football
Forget takeaways or sacks, the Carolina D has managed just 1 QB hurry and only 1 tackle for loss. Ie no pressure at all
But don't worry. Wilks is gonna command that room at halftime and lead men in the second half
He’ll fit right in here. The Saints are usually good for 40+ against any Giants team.
Not as a candidate, maybe, because, not sure the mechanics of prying him from nawlins. And you do need serious hawgs not just mollies for that shtuff he runs.
But a great example.

Carolina has held hen to 30 something the entire game. D Coordintoar must suck.
They are sacrificing their secondary in doing so and it hasn't paid off so far.
Brees is picking them apart.
If you told any DC coming into this game it would come down to Ginn and Josh Hill the DC would take that every time. Carolina has shut down the run. They’ve shut down explosive pass plays to Ingram/Kamara. Thomas has been pedestrian. They’re only 5 down with 9 minutes left. All things considered, I think the plan has been ok win or lose.
The problem is they’re losing and all those tertiary players are still beating their better defenders. I understand the game plan, but it hasn’t worked.
The defense gave them a chance to win on the road vs a team that’s a good bet to rep the NFC in the playoffs. I think he did a solid job today al things considered.
Actually Panthers defense kept them in game second half.
I like the second half adjustments Wilks made. Put them in position to win.
Huge stop at the end of the game.
Carolina D showed pretty well today overall.
And as pointed out, his only experience as DC is from the booth by his choice.
“My first year, I’m going to do it from up top. I know a lot of guys do it from the field, but I want to be up there so I can see things and get ready for the next call, away from the sideline with all the emotion and hoopla. I’ll be focused and locked in.
That, and Cam(who seemed like he was on a sedative the whole game, but coming out of it the last 5 minutes).

Their D put them in a hole early on. That's a recipe for a loss. Now, the offense didn't do them any favors, but still the point remains. Going down by two scores early changed that entire 1st half and forcing adjustments you typically would not want to make.
I don't think Wilks did an awful job, but he certainly did not do a good job. He made some choices and got burned hard by Brees. It happens.
That Carolina D looked better against the Saints in NO than virtually any team I have ever seen play them there.
Try again.
Also Rivera is a defensive coach.
It's funny everyone is down on the Patriots assistants because of Belichick but doesn't say the same for Wilks
He is the least experienced of the bunch.
How many coaches has Gettleman hired in his career?
How many has Mara? How did that work out?
You’re going to base his resume on one fucking half of play?!
Exactly! If he is smart, then he will delegate it out by hiring a DC and OC.
The thing is though, when push cones to shove I think Mara is going to have a tough time pulling the trigger on a coach with no HC experience and 1 year at DC.
I just don't see it, even if DG is on board, Mara won't be imv.
And I don't know exactly how much of this you can place directly on Wilks.
It just seems like a hasty assessment.
Because the OP wants Shurmur and loves starting threads.
Wilks isn't McAdoo. And coaches have to start somewhere. It is about finding the right guy, letting him set up his staff and team, then live by his philosophy. There will be failures and that goes with the job. But if you are looking to get a guy on his ascendancy for the long haul, then you grab him and sit back.
If you bring in a first-time HC like Wilks, it’s because you believe in the qualities he brings as a leader. He happens to be known around the league as a no nonsense disciplinarian which is exactly what this team needs right now.
There’s also no reason he can’t, when he builds his staff, bring in a veteran coordinator with HC experience that he can lean on or bounce ideas off of. Someone in the mold of a Kubiak or Norv Turner.
