Giants listed as a potential landing spot for Alex Smith

Interesting. Wonder what they would have to give up if they tried to get him.
Alex Smith landing spots - ( New Window )
I think Smith ends up in Washington

Assuming Cousins is out the door
I doubt there's any actual reporting behind that.
81_Great_Dane : 1/7/2018 7:53 pm : link
It's just: Giants want a different QB, Alex Smith is available, ergo the Giants are a potential landing spot for Alex Smith.

I like Alex Smith fine but if I'm running the Giants, KC would practically have to pay me to take Smith off their hands.
Not

Skins fans would storm Skins Park in Ashburn if they give up picks for Smith. They revolted when it looked like Snyder was going to hire Fassel. I foresee a similar reaction. I would love this move!

We all seen first hand

How well Alex Smith handled the weather in the Meadowlands this season. He was absolutely atrocious.

This is what it’s come to now? Alex Smith is a better option than Eli? Wtf?
Buffalo or Jacksonville

This year. His noodle arm over a full season in the northeast would be an epic disaster.
This is getting ridiculous...

so far everything has been speculated... I mean everything.
no chance.
huygens20 : 1/7/2018 8:06 pm : link
He cannot throw in this weather.

Had 2 terrible performances late NOV.
Why would he leave
joeinpa : 1/7/2018 8:08 pm : link
A situation where he had a #1 pick sitting behind him, knowing he has no future with that team, for a similar situation with the Giants.

Giants are.not replacing Eli with Alex Smith, they would want him in the Kurt Warner role
Alex Smith to the Giants..LOL
Alwaysblue22 : 1/7/2018 8:12 pm : link
This has to be a joke...how many points did he put up at Metlife? A Grand total of Nine. Please.....stop this nonsense . Eli is going to be our starting QB next year...just give him protection and a running attack that is feared, and the Giants will be back in the playoffs.
Better chance he
Mr. Nickels : 1/7/2018 8:13 pm : link
is back in KC than here.

I expect him to go to the Cardinals Broncos or Redskins if Cousins leaves.

I think half the league is going to be the potential head coach For the New York Giants, the janitors at MetLife, Eric from BBI, Jerry Glanville. Who will be the next QB? I dont know!
If thats the case
old man : 1/7/2018 8:16 pm : link
Play Eli for 5 years,Play Webb, Play me at QB instead.
Loved A lex at U of U, but
Bill in UT : 1/7/2018 8:39 pm : link
He is a guy in the pros who can put up some stats but can not win the big game for you. Rather stick with Eli
Who says or knows Giants are looking for a qb? That was the oneplace
plato : 1/7/2018 8:57 pm : link
On the "o" where there was frontline and backup talent. We may need a long term answer at qb depending on Davis, but in no way does Smith fit any model for the Giants.
I can't imagine Alex Smith with the Giants.....
Simms11 : 1/7/2018 9:05 pm : link
Not a great arm at all. I can see him maybe with the other NY team.
Did Eli

die over the weekend?
Arizona would be a better spot for him.
JohnF : 1/7/2018 10:01 pm : link
He could hold the fort there a couple of years while they take a developmental QB.

But, Arizona isn’t looking to hold the fort. Smith has proven time and again he isn’t going to win a title. Johnson will be back next year. They will go after Cousins.

I don't want him but ??? He was terrific against the jets. And the Giants game was won late in overtime on an acrobatic catch by our guy. He and Eli were pretty even that game.
There is a scenario
twostepgiants : 1/7/2018 10:39 pm : link
The Eli-Warner-Collins scenario

The Giants hold on to Eli unsure of what to do with the 2 pick. No one signs Alex Smith.

The Giants decide to draft QB at #2. Eli upset at this and not wanting to be a mentor asks for his release. The Giants grant it.

The Giants looking for a short term stop gap and not waning to start the rookie or Webb look for someone to sign as a mentor/stop gap.

Hence Alex Smith.

For the sake of accuracy, he did play two games at MetLife. While he struggled against the Giants, he was outstanding against the Jets two weeks later: 19 for 33, 366 yards passing, 4 TDs, 0 INTs, 70 yards rushing. It was one of his best games of the year.

I'm not advocating that the Giants should pursue him (I think he'd be a perfect fit with Jacksonville, actually), but let's at least be accurate.
Alex Smith
RetroJint : 1/7/2018 11:44 pm : link
represents everything that is wrong with passing stats. His average pass traveled a shorter distance than any QB in the league. The guy wears the moth eaten “game manager” title like a Nehru jacket.

PS: There is no way he’s going to Jacksonville. Coughlin doesn’t recruit rag-armed quarterbacks . They will have Robinson, Lee, Westbrook , Cole and Hurst next season. Those guys are made to get the ball downfield . Possible landing spot: Try Mars. The guy is a bum .
This will be the most popular type of thread on BBI
HAW HAW HAW, IT'S GARY SHAW : 1/8/2018 1:31 am : link
When Eli is gone. So many who have been spoiled by years of QB stability with Eli forget what the years before him were like. Is Norm Snead the answer? Dave Brown? Kerry Collins? Year after year wondering if "someone else" was the answer to the teams QB woes. Even the Simms years had Scott Brunner.

We will see this thread repeat itself...over and over and over.
I think Cleveland makes the most sense
Milton : 1/8/2018 3:16 am : link
They have the second round picks to get it done and it just makes sense coming off just one win in two seasons to bring in a veteran QB who can get them some wins while the QB they select in round one learns behind him. Smith won't get them to the promised land, but he will help everyone on offense get better so that when this year's rookie QB takes over next year he has players around him who are well-practiced in their assignments.
That's just speculation by a talking head ...
Beer Man : 1/8/2018 6:10 am : link
Why would the Giants even consider a trade for Smith? I just don't see the Giants trading for Alex Smith when he would not represent the future of the team at QB. Plus, the Giants still have Eli and the 2nd pick in the draft (or Davis Webb if they believe he can be the future) to address the QB position. Alex Smith makes no sense.

This just isn't accurate. Hundley had the lowest average completed air yards in the league, followed by Flacco, Rodgers and Eli. Alex Smith was almost exactly on the league median.

Does he sling it downfield like Daryle Lamonica? No. And he certainly doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but he's not nearly as bad as you're suggesting. But then again, you tried to make the case that Matt Ryan isn't a franchise QB, so it's possible that your standards for QB play are slightly askew.

Keep Eli
Rong5611 : 1/8/2018 9:16 am : link
I'd keep Eli as the transitional QB to the #2 or Webb. He's as good as Smith when he's in the right system and has players to work with.
listed by whom, his agent? We saw this year that the Meadowlands is
Victor in CT : 1/8/2018 10:03 am : link
the last place Smith can play. He's a competent QB, but he can't throw into the wind.
Doesn't throw well in the wind? Accuracy problems downfield?
Jimmy Googs : 1/8/2018 10:10 am : link
Only throws really short passes?

Sounds like someone i know...
Can’t understand how anyone could watch Alex Smith try to throw
BBelle21 : 1/8/2018 10:35 am : link
in MetLife stadium in that wind and say the Giants would have any interest at all in him. Eli outclassed Smith in that game. Eli’s arm strength and ability to play in the elements is underrated by some.
Smith threw for 366 yards and 4 TD's vs. the Jets

if Smith were a FA...
BillKo : 1/8/2018 1:50 pm : link
I could see it.

Move Eli, and have Smith here to groom a young QB.

But, to trade for him? Not happening.
