NFT: PSA re: Men's Clothing

tbonfig : 1/8/2018 4:47 pm
Haven't bought new clothes in a while (longer than I realized) and I needed a new pair of jeans. Found a pair that were advertised as "flex" jeans. Put them on and they fit like a glove.

THEY HAVE ELASTIC IN THEM!

Apparently jean technology has advanced at the speed of light in three years or so since I last bought a new pair of pains. I've always had muscular thighs so trying to get nice fitting jeans always resulted in a baggier or looser fit than I intended.

These jeans are a game changer. They are incredibly comfortable and look good too.

Am I the only one that is late to this game?

but I had the same reaction to golf shorts. I couldn't believe they made shorts that looked proper but felt like basketball shorts.

Well, the first time I wore them to a BBQ, a few people ripped into me for wearing fake khaki's. I guess they're not so stylish. Now I strictly wear them for golf and around the house.
those are for fat people

or people in danger or worried about gaining weight.

brooks brothers even makes a "stretch" suit that has "give" in it with elasticity in the waist, butt, and other danger zones.

you shouldn't tell people you wear those. and be proud of it.

they're like wearing the husky sized jeans as a kid (not that I know anything about that).

There's not a big selection when you're 6'5 270.
They also come in plaid.

Haha naw man. They can’t be for fat people. They were skinny stretch jeans. My legs are like small young tree trunks. These hug them beautifully.
I'm not fat...

See this was my impression before I saw them. You could not tell these are fake jeans or whatever you want to call them. They are denim. They also just stretch somewhat.

I can’t fathom buying a pair of denim jeans without elastic ever again.

Actually, it’s the opposite. You’re thinking of the old elastic waist jeans for fatties. These are tight jeans for skinny people. They have Lycra throughout so they can fit tight but still have give.
Tried a pair...

I carry a lot of cargo, if you know what I mean, and my problem with blue jeans has always been a lack of compartment space in the crotch. So when I first heard about these I thought I might finally be able to wear jeans like the rest of you less well endowed guys. But, no luck, they’re still not big enough. It’s a burden.

Exactly. I should have specified that it is stretchy through the legs not the waist necessarily.
Do men really want their pants to hug them and fit like a glove?

I have a bunch of Buffalo David Bitton six jeans and they are comfortable as hell. Get them tailored/altered properly. Agree with the OP.

I cant imagine what its like to have to wear adult diapers, but I admire your courage to share this information about yourself. Hopefully someday the clothing manufacturers will truly be inclusive and put out a pair of jeans that look good, even when covering a set of "full" underwear.
Make sure they're carefully hemmed and pressed

as well. Nothing looks sharper on a first date like a crisp set of denim with a perfect break right at the ankle.

Sometimes, right? I mean, I'm not saying they're like spandex all down my leg, but they are tight enough around the hammies/glutes but loose below the knee. They look better than I'm describing them. More importantly, they feel fantastic!

Ha, I did not. I actually picked up these from Target. First pair of pants I've bought there and they're not bad at all. I plan on hitting up the Gap or somewhere similar to see if I can find ones that look stylistically a little better than these. The brand is Goodfellow, which I've never heard of before trying them on.

Plus they were like $25. Can't really go wrong, right?

DAMN IT. I went to Old Navy in the fall to stock up on some t-shirts and stuff and can now vividly remember walking past their jean section and scoffing at whatever 'flex' marketing words they were throwing in my face.

Jokes on me!

Nothing wrong with a little stretch.

Much better that stiff, heavy denim. I don't know how anyone can wear pants like that. They're so fucking uncomfortable.

Interesting sidenote
Jim in Fairfax : 1/8/2018 8:02 pm : link
The Crane Corporation, maker of stationary, has been the supplier of banknote paper for US currency for well over a century. Banknote paper is a cotton-linen blend, and the source of the cotton had always been denim scraps from blue jeans manufacture.

About 15 years ago or so Crane had to start buying virgin cotton because practically all blue jean fabric now has some lycra content which makes it useless for making paper.

I have all my old Levi's still, size 34, I can squeeze into a pair or two but its a struggle and it looks ridiculous. I just bought a pair of these "stretch" Levi's in a 33 and they fall off of me. They are easily a 35 or 36. They are sweetening men's sizes now like they used to do for women so now all the old fat fucks can squeeze into a stretchy pair of pants with the size mislabeled and still think they're the same size or smaller than they were in college.

This is definitely true. I went to buy some pants for the first time in a few years recently. Tried on the size of my old pants (which fit well) and I was swimming in them. Had to go a size down.
