Now that the majority of underclassmen have declared

Sy'56 : 1/9/2018 4:13 pm
I was asked to put my pre-Shrine game/Senior Bowl/Combine stacks together, and the strength of this draft is going to be at RB, CB, and DT. A case can be made for all three positions being on the NYG needs list right now, pre FA period of course. The weakness I see is going to be at S, LB, and WR with the other positions being typically average.

Does that mean much? Not really. But when looking at the NYG CB situation, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gettleman use a higher pick than you think on one. Cromartie is almost done, Apple is a wild card with a poor attitude, Jenkins may not be a fit personality wise (I bet he stays though), Cockrell...LOVED him this year but we still don't know what he is.

In addition, Gettleman has ALWAYS been HUGE on a strong defensive line that you put a lot of resources in to in addition to depth. NYG is going to need a fresh DT this year as they don't have anything behind their starters and Harrison is a 60% of the game snaps type player. And we all know the DE have been under-performing for a few years now.

All of this talk about RB, QB, OL...it is warranted, but this draft is wide open and everything is possible and likely at this point.
Thanks Sy'56...

the #2 pick on 1 of these QBs? I saw Darnold play in the Cotton Bowl and wasn't impressed. Mayfield is exciting but I'm not sure his game nor his act will translate to the Giants. I haven't seen the others play.

re CB need, it's pretty ironic that Reese traded up in Rd 3 to take Webb and 6 CBs and 2 Ss went after him in that round last year.

I am leaning towards Rosen being the only one I would consider at #2. Darnold just hasn't grown on me since day 1. Mayfield is a guy I like a lot, and he may creep up in to the #2 discussion, but I question some intangible stuff. Is he competitive or is he stubborn and selfish? I can't tell yet, similar to what we have with Beckham.

Rosen's issues are completely around his health. He has a slender frame that has been beat up multiple times in 3 years in addition to 2 concussions this past year. That is really worrisome.
Agree Sy

with the starting DE's hurt and underperforming, and with no depth behind Harrison and Tomlinson I was thinking a DT ( especially and interior pass rush type 3 Tech ) might be a priority. Need to have fresh subs and we know how the injury bug tends to hit us.

Cockrell needs to be re-signed. Apple may need a new address.
Dixon seems a decent depth guy. I agree Jenkins will stay.
Hog mollies

On the CB need.
Apple could turnaround and be a nearer-worthy #9 pick...or mentally explode.
Jackrabbit, like us, is tired of losing and may lose it again if we are 2/3 games under .500 early on...if he's not offered up in trade this offseason(just a feeling).
Getting one at 1 or 2 let's you protect at least in part against:
Both failing,
One failing,
or, optimistically, if all 3, or 4 with Cockrell, play well, let's them move somebody for a '19 pick next offseason.
Fitzpatrick? Won't be but Nice dream at least.
What are your thoughts on...
bw in dc : 1/9/2018 4:42 pm : link
these corners: Tony Brown/Alabama and Blace Brown/Troy.

TBrown seemed to get better as the season wore on and is a really good special teams player.

I think BBrown is the nephew of Herschel Walker...? I only saw him in the LSU game but he jumped off the screen...
Been watching a lot of tape
Marty866b : 1/9/2018 4:55 pm : link
lately on the quarterbacks. Let me say as a USC honk,NO ONE throws the ball in this draft like Josh Rosen. He is an elite passer who has great touch and velocity, when needed along with great accuracy. It is too bad that he has concussion issues and has such a slight build.

Sy, Josh Allen runs around and slings it like Wentz, and he has actually taken snaps under center, unlike some of the other QBs in this class. Not much surrounding him his senior year. His stock will go up after the combine after he puts on an athletic freak show. Do you see any chance the Giants go after Allen?
I really want them to find a way to trade down
Motley Two : 1/9/2018 5:17 pm : link
and get extra picks for this year and next year.

They need bodies everywhere. I don't want a QB this year. I'd rather have Eli provide stability at that position while the rest of the roster gets fixed/overhauled. Get this team built, then add your QB of the future. Maybe they even get some good fortune and Webb is ready to be that guy.
Great stuff Sy
edavisiii : 1/9/2018 5:21 pm : link
...you can never have enough pass rushers and I would love to see the Giants pick up a true"3 technique" tackle and a speed rusher. They might be the missing pieces needed to make this defense move up a notch. 3rd down brought too many blitzes and exposed the secondary and linebackers.
Heard that Clelin Ferrel

If Rosen goes 1 and we can’t trade back who would be your pick as of now?
I thought Tomlinson had a pretty good rookie year and should get
Ira : 1/9/2018 6:55 pm : link
better. We can use more depth at dt, but don't need a starter. Corner and rb are two need positions. I'm hoping that this is the year that we hit a home run by drafting a top running back.
Third round could be a good time to go CB...
Milton : 1/9/2018 8:08 pm : link
Duke Dawson, Isaiah Oliver, Josh Jackson, Brandon Facyson, Anthony Averett, and Tony Brown are all currently slotting within range of the 66th pick in the draft.
Carlton Davis could be available at 34
jeff57 : 1/9/2018 8:34 pm : link
And would be a good CB pickup.

Rosen reminds me of Sam Bradford.

Tony Brown is a very good athlete. Just wrote him up actually. Straight speed, elite power and strength. But for a CB, I don't think the quickness, reaction time, and instincts are good enough. I think he can be a package-S...meaning specific situations. Issue is, I have a low grade on him as a tackler, too many misses. I see a special teamer.

Haven't done Brown (Troy) yet

I don't think I am ever gonna come around on Allen as a 1st rounder. I can see why some will though.

He isn't near the fluid athlete as Went....nit near his throwing mechanics, not near his swagger.

Allen is closer to Big Ben coming out of Miami (OH) in 2004, but again the accuracy isn't there

No Rosen, no trade down...I'm thinking Barkley but Fitzpatrick (FS) and Williams (OT) are interesting to me.

Taking an OT like Connor Williams at 2 seems pretty high to me especially given his injuries earlier in the year. I would hope we would trade down if we are going OL. Seems like you could get good OL in picks below 5 or 6 by trading down.
