Saban not interested in the Giants coaching job

Vin_Cuccs : 1/9/2018 6:15 pm
Via Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

There’s no quote from Saban in that article.
GiantGolfer : 1/9/2018 6:21 pm : link
Pure speculation from a “source”.
I have no reason to think Saban is interested,
Mad Mike : 1/9/2018 6:21 pm : link
but the actual quote from the "source" is not consistent with what Schwartz says. Not having reached out to the team yet (I mean, it's been less than 24 hours since he coached in a national championship game) is quite different from not being interested.

“Has Nick Saban reached out to the Giants and said, ‘I’d like to talk to you about your job if you’re still looking for a head coach?’ Not to my knowledge,” the source said.

That quote means absolutely nothing.

No reason the think he would leave Alabama

The thread title is fine

Rotoworld has the same headline at the moment. And while TyreeHelmet takes one quote, the very first line of the article says...

While a source familiar with Saban’s thinking said Saban has zero interest in the Giants’ job

By the way, does Bruce Arians even know Saban? They said he used to coach Alabama.... in different years than when Saban was there.

Also... some disturbing Collins quotes in that article... but he's already been selected by BBI as best leader on the team so whatever.

Very little pressure? You're kidding right?

The guy is expected to win every game his team plays and then cap it off with a Championship every year in Tuscaloosa. Granted it's not NYC but they live and breathe Bama football there and expect nothing less.
No shit

it is all bullshit until the team makes an announcement
why do people even think he is remotely interested
blueblood : 1/9/2018 6:52 pm : link
he is getting like 10-11 million a year to coach college. He doesnt have to deal with an owner. A GM. Agents. He lives like a king. He can recruit from the best high school players in the nation.

Why in the world would he ever want to go the NFL?
Has he yet explained why he let

A special team player back into the game after the kid punched a Georgia player then tried to punch a coach on the sidelines?

Go to Jints Central where I have to deal with their archaic way of doing business, an AARP QB, a huge question mark for the next QB, a jerk off like OBJ, horrible oline, and just mediocre talent overall...

Or...

Stay at the Camelot of college football where I am treated like a king and compete for history...

Not a tough call at this point.

Not saying he wants to return to the NFL, but many people are driven by the next big challenge. They're not content to do the same thing over and over again.

Saban has certainly proven he can win titles in college...but he hasn't proven squat in the NFL. It might be the only football challenge left for him.
Why would any top college coach
UESBLUE : 1/9/2018 7:12 pm : link
want to walk into a shitstorm in a place like NY/NJ? These guys have great lives on their campuses. Unless they have a personal reason to coach a specific team I just cant see subjecting their families to it
Respect him greatly

but he’s not a fit for this job. He’s getting up there in age.

The financials involved would also be too ridiculous.
While a long shot, the Giants need to put out feelers
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/9/2018 7:23 pm : link
& see if he's interested.

Again, I don't see him leaving what he's created in Alabama. But the Giants would be committing football malpractice if they didn't at least inquire, especially considering the two decade long flirtation between Saban & the organization.

If the Giants (not "Jints") quickly turn things around and become contenders, the best part of it will be you not posting anymore.

(And Eli playing well would be a cherry on top.)

I think that's fairly spot on. He's 66. A better move would be going to a team with most of the parts in place. For example, if the Chiefs were to part with Reid, then Saban would be real nice fit there.

But the Jints are a reclamation project right now in a very tough division with young teams.
Where does it say that anywhere in the article?

He is almost seventy and a multi millionaire. He can break Bear Bryant's record for national championships with another BCS Championship run.. and make more money than he will in the NFL. And NOT deal with owners, contracts, free agency, agents, etc etc.. and recruit from the best players in the country year after year.. not to mention it has been noted that his wife LOVES Alabama..

Saban aint comin to the NFL
Shocker! News at 5:00
Giant John : 1/9/2018 10:39 pm : link
How could anyone think otherwise???
I think he's currently motivated to break Bryant's record
Ten Ton Hammer : 1/9/2018 11:59 pm : link
Can't forsee him leaving until he has it. He's certainly well-set up to do it.

Also, he's sitting on a $65m contract and his wife doesn't want to leave where they are. People keep projecting their own motivations on him but coming here would be a downgrade in so many ways. He doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. If that had any sway on him he would've already been back in the NFL.
