For those saying we shouldn't take a qb , consider this.
Trent Dilfer has said that this may be the greatest qb draft class since Marino , Elway , and Kelly.
If we don't take a franchise qb this year , there is no guarantee that next year will produce a top qb in the draft. Every year is different , and if we have a top 5 pick again , and there is no clear cut top qb we are screwed.
Taking a franchise qb high , is kind of like beach front property. If its available you buy it , because you may never get another shot.
I'm happy with either Rosen or Darnold , as long as we get one of them , can't miss this.
Gettleman better not screw this up , or we will be screwed for years. This is not just about next year , we are talking about the next 10-15 years , GET OUR FRANCHISE QB and we won't have to worry about this for 15 years.
Make it happen...
Your thoughts??
Here is the link about Rosen
Rosen to Giants - (
New Window )
That and he's already in the draft, so his threat to stay in school is meaningless now. If the Browns picked him I'm sure he'll end up there.
The injuries bother me, specifically concussions.
Can anybody post a timeline of his concussions/injuries?
Trent Dilfer is an idiot.
All hyperbole.
I think Dilfer is right but we won’t know until 15 years from now.
A: It’s really important. You draft a quarterback high, and you’re wrong? It sets you back, because then what happens, there are teams that I call, they’re in quarterback hell. They got solid defense, they’ve got a pretty good offensive line, they got some skill players. They … just … can’t … find the trigger guy. And what happens is they go 7-9, 8-8, 9-7, and they never get high enough to get a real guy, and they’re afraid to trade up and trade the farm to get a guy because they’re [No.] 18, 19, 20 draft position. I call that quarterback hell.
What a bunch of Debbie Downers on this site. Those guys and Josh Allen are great QB prospects. Nothing is guaranteed but jeez...
I think Darnold is better too , but If Cleveland won't trade out of the #1 pick to us , then I'm happy with Rosen , he's gonna be good too. Just got to get at least one of them
How is Rosen unlikeable? Haven’t heard that one, but he tends to speak his mind. Jim Mora indicated that, but he thought it was a good thing. The biggest knock on Rosen will be medicals and if he makes teams comfortable with that I think he’ll be the first QB drafted.

And to me Darnold looked better. His throws seemed more crisp and accurate, while Rosen seemed to have a lot of lucky jump balls that ended up being caught. Kind of odd of them to use those plays for his highlight reel.

They both look like they could be legit but Rosen is oft injured. Maybe Allen should be considered over Rosen.
If we don't take a QB iat #2 we are brain dead. Barkley,? Are you f'n kidding me? So we will have past his prime Eli for 1-2 years, no OL to block for Barkley and in 2 years we will be back to the Dave Brown,Kent Graham/Danny Kanell scenario. Wonderful. QB at #2 or bust! Sorry for the rant.
He and OBJ would sure increase our scoring.
If he is our get,he will have to sit '18 because his medicals mean we definitely need 2 offseasons to get an OL of hog mollies and build a credible run game to leave D's guessing and not blitz on 2nd and 9-13 and expose him to more hits.
Even if available and passes the Mara test I still don't see Giants taking him.
I hope 2 QBs jump out at the Game and Combine:Mayfield and Darnold(though the later not likely).
Ken O'Brien was good but no franchise QB
Ken O'Brien was good but no franchise QB
There's a fairly long list of teams who have been trying to do that and haven't gotten one in a WHILE:
Vikings
Lions (Guess they consider Stafford a franchise QB...doesnt show up in wins)
Browns
Bengals (Dalton is not)
Redskins (not since Theisman)
Bears (never?)
Buccaneers (No, I don't think Winston is a franchise back...put him a step below Stafford)
Undecided (promising season, but the others weren't great or injuries):
Tennessee
Raiders
Texans
Rams
Best bet you either trade down or my wet dream is to draft Barkley. You DO NOT FORCE THE QB PICK JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE DRAFING IN THE TOP TWO!!!!!!! You take BPA available and if its not Darnold then its Barkley. End of sentence.
Rosen will be a disaster and will set this franchise back years.
You mean the true freshman that isn't eligible until the 2020 draft? Solid plan.
You're welcome.
And here's highlights from his senior year in high school.
On the flip side Trent Dilfer, who was a bottom tier QB his whole career, did win one proving there are other formulas to winning a Superbowl. If the Giants think Webb can be a average to above average starter than I am okay passing on Rosen and building the team another way.
However, I would not pass on Rosen just because we think Eli has 2 more years. I would only do it if I legit think Webb can be a starter.
Poorly said by Dilfer. It may be the DEEPEST QB class since 1983, but not the greatest.

if you think stafford is not a franchise qb, your smoking the good stuff...not to mention: winston, mariota, goff, and carr are well on their way...it would be a miracle if we got a qb as good as any of these guys...clown.

Big difference between "franchise QB" and "winning franchise QB" I'm hoping GMen next QB doesn't fall into the first one.
What we're talking about isn't Superbowls, playoffs, or wins. Dan Marino is a perfect example.
Franchise QB simply means an excellent QB you can build a team around, and yes, Matt Stafford and Winston both more than meet that criteria.
