Rosen wants to play for the Giants.............

sxdxca : 1/9/2018 8:58 pm
For those saying we shouldn't take a qb , consider this.

Trent Dilfer has said that this may be the greatest qb draft class since Marino , Elway , and Kelly.

If we don't take a franchise qb this year , there is no guarantee that next year will produce a top qb in the draft. Every year is different , and if we have a top 5 pick again , and there is no clear cut top qb we are screwed.

Taking a franchise qb high , is kind of like beach front property. If its available you buy it , because you may never get another shot.

I'm happy with either Rosen or Darnold , as long as we get one of them , can't miss this.

Gettleman better not screw this up , or we will be screwed for years. This is not just about next year , we are talking about the next 10-15 years , GET OUR FRANCHISE QB and we won't have to worry about this for 15 years.

Make it happen...

Your thoughts??

Greatest class since 1983?

What a slap in the face to Eli, Big Ben, and Rivers. You are talking about 3 probable HoFers and how many Super Bowls?

That and he's already in the draft, so his threat to stay in school is meaningless now. If the Browns picked him I'm sure he'll end up there.
I am shied away from Rosen's concussion history.

That is really my only objection. I don't buy into the desire thing. I don't buy into the idea that his folks are rich and he doesnt't care about money.

The injuries bother me, specifically concussions.

Can anybody post a timeline of his concussions/injuries?

I don't want to be in QB hell either but picking one of these guys doesn't guarantee a pass either. Just saying. My money is a trade down for Mayfield and an ol. Best of both worlds.

or the Reese one (not blue chip but something like that). And can we quote exactly what Gettleman said. He never said passing on a QB. He said drafting a QB and missing on that pick. Everybody seems to leave that part out.
I just watched Rosen and Darnolds highlight reels
bradshaw44 : 1/9/2018 9:13 pm : link
And to me Darnold looked better. His throws seemed more crisp and accurate, while Rosen seemed to have a lot of lucky jump balls that ended up being caught. Kind of odd of them to use those plays for his highlight reel.

I think Dilfer is right but we won’t know until 15 years from now.

Q: On your head-coach priority list, how important is the ability to develop a young quarterback?

A: It’s really important. You draft a quarterback high, and you’re wrong? It sets you back, because then what happens, there are teams that I call, they’re in quarterback hell. They got solid defense, they’ve got a pretty good offensive line, they got some skill players. They … just … can’t … find the trigger guy. And what happens is they go 7-9, 8-8, 9-7, and they never get high enough to get a real guy, and they’re afraid to trade up and trade the farm to get a guy because they’re [No.] 18, 19, 20 draft position. I call that quarterback hell.

I think Darnold is better too , but If Cleveland won't trade out of the #1 pick to us , then I'm happy with Rosen , he's gonna be good too. Just got to get at least one of them

How is Rosen unlikeable? Haven’t heard that one, but he tends to speak his mind. Jim Mora indicated that, but he thought it was a good thing. The biggest knock on Rosen will be medicals and if he makes teams comfortable with that I think he’ll be the first QB drafted.

They both look like they could be legit but Rosen is oft injured. Maybe Allen should be considered over Rosen.
I totally agree.

Hey everyone is entitled to their opinion but cmon, this is far and away the best draft for "Potential" franchise QB's since at least 2004. Revisionist history is great but when you looked at the draft BEFORE these QB's actually played a down in the NFL, I cannot remember a better looking QB class. This business of picking out these flaws are flaws ALL of these QB's had in college.

If we don't take a QB iat #2 we are brain dead. Barkley,? Are you f'n kidding me? So we will have past his prime Eli for 1-2 years, no OL to block for Barkley and in 2 years we will be back to the Dave Brown,Kent Graham/Danny Kanell scenario. Wonderful. QB at #2 or bust! Sorry for the rant.
Just

Sorry but Andrew Luck and RG-Knee has way more potential and way more hype in 2012. Didn’t work out well so far for either. Potential means 0
I think that Rosen is the most accurate passer in the draft.
yatqb : 1/9/2018 9:50 pm : link
He's also got a strong arm. I don't know how well he goes through his progressions, but if he's good at reading defenses, I feel we'd be lucky to land him.

He and OBJ would sure increase our scoring.
Rosen might fuck himself out of a few million saying this

If the Giants prefer Darnold or another QB over Rosen, Rosen should keep his preferences to himself because he may slide and be something even worse than a Brown.. a Jet.

a lot of personality tests to 'sell' Mara on him. He may well be the anti-Eli, seems opinionated, and can not let criticism phase his interviews a la Eli Apple and embarrass the organization.
If he is our get,he will have to sit '18 because his medicals mean we definitely need 2 offseasons to get an OL of hog mollies and build a credible run game to leave D's guessing and not blitz on 2nd and 9-13 and expose him to more hits.
Even if available and passes the Mara test I still don't see Giants taking him.
I hope 2 QBs jump out at the Game and Combine:Mayfield and Darnold(though the later not likely).

There's a fairly long list of teams who have been trying to do that and haven't gotten one in a WHILE:

Vikings
Lions (Guess they consider Stafford a franchise QB...doesnt show up in wins)
Browns
Bengals (Dalton is not)
Redskins (not since Theisman)
Bears (never?)
Buccaneers (No, I don't think Winston is a franchise back...put him a step below Stafford)

Undecided (promising season, but the others weren't great or injuries):

Tennessee
Raiders
Texans
Rams
Neither of these QB's compare...
Zepp : 1/10/2018 5:03 am : link
Not the top QB's anyway. Compared to 83 class? What an insult. Browns are probably going Darnold. If he's gone I don't want the Giants taking a concussion prone millenial attitude QB in Rosen. He's gonna be a disaster.

Best bet you either trade down or my wet dream is to draft Barkley. You DO NOT FORCE THE QB PICK JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE DRAFING IN THE TOP TWO!!!!!!! You take BPA available and if its not Darnold then its Barkley. End of sentence.

Rosen will be a disaster and will set this franchise back years.

find it but has anyone seen the video when Rosen was a senior at Dilfer’s QB camp? It was when Rosen was a high school senior. Anyway Dilfer was trying to coach him and run drills. Rosen would not run the drills the way Dilfer had asked. Dilfer at the time was not happy with Rosen. Rosen appeared uncoachable. Now that could have changed but if Rosen still has that attitude no way do I want the Giants to draft him

Not what you were asking about, but here's an interview from when he was in high school describing the thought process behind a 60-yard TD pass he threw.

And here's highlights from his senior year in high school.

Marino, Kelly and Elway actually won a Superbowl, meaning having a star QB is no indication you will win the big one, though I concede it is a very important piece.

On the flip side Trent Dilfer, who was a bottom tier QB his whole career, did win one proving there are other formulas to winning a Superbowl. If the Giants think Webb can be a average to above average starter than I am okay passing on Rosen and building the team another way.

However, I would not pass on Rosen just because we think Eli has 2 more years. I would only do it if I legit think Webb can be a starter.
Common sense please
BlueinRoch : 1/10/2018 8:38 am : link
Yeah, let's draft a QB with a history of concussions and let him play behind at best a revamped O-Line and with an unproven backfield. It starts with the beef up front because they can make a QB and RB better. I for one hope we trade back, get some O-Line studs and pick up a QB later to compete with Webb for the back-up job. We can compete for the next couple years with Eli and our receivers behind a better line.

Right? Franchise QB doesn't mean Superbowl, and average QB doesn't mean no Superbowl. Trent Dilfer is exhibit A.

What we're talking about isn't Superbowls, playoffs, or wins. Dan Marino is a perfect example.

Franchise QB simply means an excellent QB you can build a team around, and yes, Matt Stafford and Winston both more than meet that criteria.
