Thoughts on this Giants mock draft?

DaddyM89 : 1/12/2018 12:32 am
Would certainly make all the OL pundits happy..
Giants 7 Round Mock - ( New Window )
I like it
uconngiant : 1/12/2018 12:50 am : link
Though the not huge supporter of McGlinchey that high or any other offensive lineman except Nelson who might be an All-Pro in year one.
The rest of the draft is solid, especially Guice
I hate
Zepp : 1/12/2018 12:56 am : link
taking olineman in the top 5 or 6 like that but I'd rather trade down than taking Rosen just cuz he's a QB. Rosen is gonna be a disaster.

Draft Barkley or trade down.
Love Price, Guice
Lionhart28 : 1/12/2018 1:08 am : link
And Jewell. Jewell is an absolute tackling machine. Everywhere in the field. Exactly the type of backer Giants need.
I like it..

Wouldn't mind this at all..
not enough

To trade to the Jets I would want their 1st and early 2nd this year and their 1 and 2 next year. McGlinchey was said to
not be able to handle edge rushers from left tackle pass on him. Replace him with Nelson or Fitzpatrick if available. The rest of the draft seems good.
I love
Allen in CNJ : 1/12/2018 4:52 am : link
the top 4 picks, make it the top 5.
Stopped reading after trade to the Jets
jeff57 : 1/12/2018 4:58 am : link
That would never ever happen.
^^ Trade to the jets seems highly unlikely
Mellowmood92 : 1/12/2018 5:04 am : link
but i'd be very happy with that outcome
Hate McGlinchey
Breeze_94 : 1/12/2018 7:18 am : link
As our first
Hate it, first off, We wouldnít even sniff Guice with that
barens : 1/12/2018 7:26 am : link
Pick. Second, the Giants would not trade down and pass on a franchise QB to get an offensive lineman that is probably better suited for the right side. Big no go from me.
I'd
AcidTest : 1/12/2018 7:37 am : link
be fine with that draft.

C'mon man. "the giants would not" is an absurd thing to say right now. We have a new GM (who has freqently traded around in the first round) and don't even have a head coach yet.

Dislike the draft if you want, but don't be silly to act like you know what they're thinking
There's a bit..

His frequent trading is almost always to trade up, and when he does pick OL (Hog Mollies), he does it for their natural position and with the appropriate value. He isn't going to reach for a player, especially in the first round.

Gettleman is big on value, so you can pretty much assume if he does trade down, he'll take either one of the next wave of QB's or an immediate starter.
Mcglinchey
cokeduplt : 1/12/2018 8:09 am : link
Is a huge reach and would be a terrible pick. I stopped reading after that.
Brutal draft
The_Boss : 1/12/2018 8:43 am : link
McGlinchy at 6 would be a major reach.

In a recent interview he talked about the Kiwi trade down which debunks just about every point in this post.
as soon as it said "trade with Jets" the thing became instant bullshit

especially if they don't think any of the QB's are your guy. If you think a QB is your guy, you sit there and take him - I don't think many can argue that. Although, I happen to be on the No-Qb side where things stand now.

In this scenario, the LT at 6 might not be the guy, but securing possibly the LT and C long term that you desperately need to upgrade the line and THEN add Guice, which is the other piece this offense has been missing for a long time - its very intriguing. Also, really like the fact we get 3 OL.

Also, the added mega-bonus, how good do you think the Jets are really going to be next year even with Rosen, Darnold or the QB their aiming for. Next year's draft we could have another top 10 or top 5 even. Not saying we can make a run with Eli as the QB next year, but at least we'll have a great base of an offense to bring a younger QB into, instead of the dreadful OL/RB situation we have currently.

Can't much disagree with this. I'm firmly in the Barkley camp as I am not impressed with these QB's not at 2. Darnold maybe but definitely not Rosen. In 04 I felt Eli and Rivers were pretty much guarantees to be quality QBs but didnt think we could get Eli. I dont have that same feeling from these QB's.

If we got those 3 lineman and still got a lesser HB...fine that makes sense. I'd rather go with Barkley and get quality guys, not all pro, in FA or later in the draft. I think we can win right away with that kind of combo and as the contracts of Eli and the defensive guys we recently signed start to be manageable then we can look towards the future.

GuzzaBlue : 1/12/2018 10:03 am : link
I agree. None of the QB's jump off the page (yet) to me. I don't force that pick because if you're wrong, your set back for a long time.

Maybe a pipe dream, but if you sign Norwell for LG...McGlinchey, Norwell, Price, Fluker/Jones, Flowers (Can interchange out some of those names, but the premise is there)

Guice (or Penny or Michele)/Gallman at RB and I think you at least have the start of something to build off of with a good receiving core and proven defensive pieces. And if Flowers hits at RG or RT, then you upgrade two positions with one pick. Also, two 1st rounders in 2019 (possibly at least one high pick).
Nahhhh... no need to take McGlinchey that early.
Big Blue Blogger : 1/12/2018 10:35 am : link
I got him at 34 on First-Pick. ;o)

With four picks in the top 42 after a couple of trades, I took Mayfield and rebuilt the line. Oh, and I also own Miami's 2019 first-round pick.

Round 1 Pick 21 (BUF): Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
Round 1 Pick 26 (JAX): Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame
Round 2 Pick 2: Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame
Round 2 Pick 10 (MIA): Billy Price, C/OG, Ohio State
Round 2 Pick 26 (JAX): Lowell Lotulelei, DT, Utah
Round 3 Pick 2: Ronnie Harrison, SS, Alabama
Round 4 Pick 2: Mark Walton, RB, Miami (FL)
Round 5 Pick 2: Adonis Alexander, CB, Virginia Tech
Round 6 Pick 2: JK Scott, P, Alabama

Totally realistic, right?

I also got FS Sean Chandler from Temple in the seventh round, but I don't think the Giants really own that pick.

First move trade down to 4th with Browns who get the top two picks Giants get 3rd and 6th 2018, 3rd 2019. Colts on the clock 3rd round canít see them taking a QB lots of options including a trade but this is a team looking to win now canít keep wasting Luck career. Giants now on the clock 4th pick once again in the trade down mode Broncos and Jets at five and six prime trade partners. Both desperate or beyond desperate for franchise QB, Jets have more to offer now two seconds in 2018, but Broncos may feel this is the time could offer most of 2018 and 2019 top picks if they really want the QB of their choice. I think you go with the Jets yes it possibly takes three of the top QBís off the board before you pick at 6 but the 6th pick, 2nd, 3rd in 2018 and 1st and 6th in 2019 is a winning move for the Giants. Forget the we donít trade with the Jets this is a franchise in a desperate situation with a chance to begin the rebuild.

At this point no one knows what the Giants team plan is for the future at QB, high paid vets underperforming, younger players with attitude issues and a new GM and HC. At this point IMO you trade the vets for picks this year or next not looking for a steal just moving pieces off your board that donít fit now or in the future. Many will cry but the Manning, OBJ, JPP, Vernon, Harrison, DRC, Jenkins, Apple, Collins era it all went wrong fact not fiction. Move on most of these guys wonít get you better than a 4th or 5th round pick in 2018 or 2019 but your looking for closure and CAP relief in the future. Now donít waste your CAP thatís fools Gold look at our history maybe one out of ten FA perform close to the salary you are paying scrap that plan go with the young UDFA and 1st or 2nd year controlled FAís. I donít see one FA player from this team worth bring back due to past performance and financial commitment required thanks but no thanks we wish you all the best in the future. This is a team that at the start of 2018 could see 37 or more new players on the roster because itís time to rebuild not tweak the roster.
Swap Nelson for McGlinchey and I'm in

That seems like a certainty if there ever was one, I don't care who they hire as a GM. Trading the #2 pick in the draft away, to get a right tackle? I feel pretty confident in saying the Giants would not entertain that.

Trading the 2nd pick for a RT? Yea...that would be terrible. You forgot to throw in the fact your also getting an extra 2nd, extra 1st next year and more. Also, names right now mean nothing. So much can change by the time the draft comes. It's the logic - build the OL and running game while accumulating extra stock. Helps out multiple phases of the team.

Draft Nelson at 6 then. Throw the $ at Soldier and stockpile picks. Barkeley would be a great get, but who's blocking for him. Eli or Darnold or Rosen will get killed behind this OL. Ignoring the OL again would be a mistake IMO esp if you get rid of Richburg and Pugh- its ugly.
Trade Down
Giantslifer : 1/12/2018 1:53 pm : link
Definitely trade #2 pick for whatever you can get.
Minimum: switch 1st rd this year, extra 2nd or high 3rd
Next years 1st and 2nd or high 3rd
OL/DL/LB
Nelson is an absolute Beast
Alwaysblue22 : 1/12/2018 1:55 pm : link
At Guard...he would upgrade any line immediately. Then draft a LT. Move flowers to RT next to D.J. Fluker... then the RB you take can have some major holes to run through.

Well, he did, except for Beatty, avoid round 1 or 2 OL picks from '08 through '12, and reached when had to '13 through '15, but with a GLARING weakness in the OL in '17, and in need of a young top OL infusion, he went Fluker, and drafted EE in the first and the only OL he drafted was in the 6th.
First
old man : 1/12/2018 7:46 pm : link
I want the Jets #37, not Seattle's 49; they can keep the 4th round.
Second, unless he blows away competition in the E-W game AND the Combine..and improved handling of speed rushers...NO.
Third, 2 QBs, Barkley, Fitzpatrick, Chubb quite likely gone.
If Denver goes QB one of those should be available.
As good as he is, and as much as I think he's a good get, Im hoping Quentin Nelson or a OLT showcases the next 6 weeks or so and worthy of that spot.
Finally I don't think the comment on EE was a knock on him but just that with an obvious need, JR chose EE vs an OL, particularly a LT.
That draft would be fine
