Especially since we'll still sit at WC1. But if this 6 games in 9 days goes as bad as I think it will... pressure will start to mount again.

At the end of the day without Kreider, I don't think this team is talented ... not many coaches would get this deep team into the playoffs. It may be for the best that we get some assets in return for guys like Nash, etc. and another year picking in the top 10-12 of the draft.

Maybe so, but could they just play Zib with Buch again and McD with Shattenkirk for an extended period of time and see how it goes? There more talent than these results. The coach is lost
Yay

F'in Z~E~R~O Emotion from the Rangers. Big Rivalry game against the "hated" Isles on a Sat afternoon & This is what they come out with. PATHETIC!!

Barzal 5 pts....

Fellas, we just got our dicks spanked & buried in the dirt!

Embarrassing effort for sure!
Wish we could play this team 20 times a year
The 12th Man : 1/13/2018 3:44 pm : link
We own this team lately. The reason Hank did not play is he had 1 win in his last 10 against them. Barzal is unbelievable and he will only get better. Islanders need a shut down D-Man and they could go on a run. Fun watching the 2nd line own this game tonight.
Solid chance the Isles outscore

at least one of the Eagles or the Jags.
Isles always beat up on the Rangers
NYerInMA : 1/13/2018 3:48 pm : link
for whatever reason, the Rangers never match the Isles' intensity level.

Wonders with this D. It is so tough to watch this team give up so many quality chances each and every game. It might be time for Gorton to actually do something.

arcarsenal : 1/13/2018 8:32 pm : link
Another loss against the Styx.. shocker.

The Rangers might as well not even waste their time suiting up against this team because they pretty much lose every fucking time.

When was the last time we won? The opener last year?

Pretty sure we've lost 9 of the last 10.

Complete domination. Fucking embarrassing.

Didn't happen against the eagles. So.. there's that.

I enjoyed 12th mans post. You'd think the isles weren't in last and hadn't been brutal the past 6 weeks.

The Rangers suck... the islanders do too. Both are playing out the string in all probability.
I, for one, am having fun watching this season...
baadbill : 1/14/2018 11:05 am : link
after the horrific start, at least they are in the race... am I concerned they may not have enough to win the Cup? Fuck me, they've only won it once in my lifetime and I'm 65 and have faithfully watched them my entire life, so I'm not too worried ... lol

As for being "buyers" or "sellers", I really hate the trades they've made over the past 20 years... trades made during the season in an effort to win the cup have done nothing but hurt the longer term effort to build a contending team... it's so fucking short sighted and idiotic imo... so fuck that shit... on the other hand, if there are players who should be dumped, then dump them

Alas, I'm a bit worried I may not be singing the same happy tune after the grueling schedule the next two weeks - they don't get more than 1 day off between games:

@Penguins Sun 1/14
Flyers Tue 1/16
Sabres Thu 1/18
@Avalanche Sat 1/20
@Kings Sun 1/21
@Ducks Tue 1/23
@Sharks Thu 1/25

What a pace and no whistles in this 2nd period ... holy crap

I believe fighting should remain in hockey
pjcas18 : 1/14/2018 9:01 pm : link
and I think there's a legit purpose for it, but man that sequence Olesksiak is what every anti-fighting person points to.

Reeves drills Staal. Good hit. Clean hit.

Smith Buries Reeves. Good hit. Clean hit.

Oleksiak drops the gloves with Smith.

anyway, Shattenkirk with TO in the defensive zone, now two quick Penguins goals.
Yeah well they're getting their asses kicked

Yet again.

10 games without a regulation win and looking like that will extend tonight

I feel bad Lundqvist won't win here but it's not a talented team or well coached so it's a waste of my time

Kreider shouldn't kill a season but it's the excuse the rest of the roster has used to get its asses kicked consistently for almost two months now. I haven't liked the way this team has played since Detroit the day after thanksgiving

BrettNYG10 : 1/15/2018 9:56 am : link
Buchnevich needs top six minutes. AV's handling of him is brutal.
According to BSB Elliot Friedman had this to say on HNIC
Greg from LI : 1/15/2018 10:01 am : link
Quote:
“They’re in a playoff spot as we do this in the wild card but got lit up by Mathew Barzal and the Islanders earlier today, I think the Rangers are starting to look and say are there other moves that we can make, similar to the one with Derek Stepan and Arizona at last year’s draft.”

“I think you are taking a look at their UFAs, Nash, Grabner, David Desharnais at center. But I think also some of their contracted players, Zuccarello, McDonagh, no guarantee they do it, but I think they are willing to listen.

So that's promising. Some shrewd trades and a new coach and they might be back in contention next season.
......
BrettNYG10 : 1/15/2018 10:03 am : link
I think trading McDonagh is the right move. I think Skjei is better. McDonagh isn't worth the $8M deal he'll command next off-season.
I cant remember a time
MetsAreBack : 1/16/2018 6:13 pm : link
i looked less forward to a hockey game than tonight. I'm losing interest fast in this group. Philly is hot too... we'll see how this goes.

Putting things in perspective, a 10-year old kid on MSL's Connecticut Rough Riders hockey team died late on sunday. Had the flu over the weekend, but still wanted to attend his team's tournament in upstate NY over the holiday weekend, for whatever reason his parents pulled him out of the Buffalo hospital to drive home .. and he died on the car ride home. Doesnt get scarier or more tragic than that. RIP.
I haven’t ever felt this strongly

Holland

who's not a terrible player and filling in for Hayes. I'm probably alone in this, but I think Carey has gotten progressively better this year - considering he was a 29 year old with one career NHL goal... good find by Gorton.

Actually playing one of your most talented players Buchnevich on the top line is a good way to change things up. Why does his job have to be on the line like in the Vegas game for AV to start doing the logical thing?
Holland in his first game as a Ranger ... nice

We'll probably rattle off a 5 game win streak, he'll save his job, and then he'll start burying guys like Buch again and we'll go through yet another cycle where he's an ass hair away from losing his job.

This team is just stuck in the damn mud. I'd almost rather we just totally sucked than got trapped in this sort of good, sort of not territory.

In fairness only 3 teams in the entire EC
MetsAreBack : 1/16/2018 8:27 pm : link
have established themselves as legit playoff teams - Tampa, Washington and Boston. Even within that group, Washington is just 18-14 in regulation.. which is the type of non-all star weekend gimmick hockey you have to win come May anyway.

Boston a few years ago I said I would love to do the quick rebuild they committed to... they missed what, two playoff seasons?

Grabner -dont do it by the pussy or you'll get #metoo'd - pots another one. He should return a nice haul at the deadline if we cant improve.

It’s an interesting point. On the one hand, it gives me pause that maybe you stay the course and take an honest roll of the dice heading into the playoffs with only 1 or 2 real stud teams in the EC. On the other hand, with such parity, maybe it’s a heck of a seller’s market at the deadline...

I think we've watched this movie enough times now.

We have this same conversation every year.

"We're flawed, but there's only a couple of teams in the East that are markedly better - get hot in the playoffs and you never know.... "

But it ain't working.

I think we'd be wise to sell if the market dictates and will net us some good return on the few moveable assets we have.
Grabner has such great hands and reflexes.

Dahlin just assigned to the Swedish Olympic team. Maybe the only reason to watch the hockey olympics. He'll be playing against much older players as a 17-year old.

Dahlin is bigger than Karlsson (and probably still growing), and I'm not sure he's as good a skater, but he's a far better 1st round prospect than either Patrick or Hischier IMO
this is one hell of a way to stop a 10 game
MetsAreBack : 1/16/2018 8:39 pm : link
regulation winless streak. And good to see #61 finally breakout... we've been waiting too long for that.

Yeah he looks like the real deal. I watched a clip of him the other day where he basically juked a defenseman out of his skates with the puck. The guy literally fell down in front of him. He looks like a truly special prospect.
Well as long as some 85-90 point Metro team
MetsAreBack : 1/16/2018 8:43 pm : link
like Carolina doesnt get him... and you know, the teams that actually suck land him.. i guess we can live with it.

If Buffalo gets him... that'd be one hell of a nucleus. I still cant figure out why their record is so bad - we all watched the Winter Classic... there's significant talent on that team.

goalie is awful. Lehner has always been an up-and-coming goalie as long as I can remember. He's got good size, but is not an NHL starting goalie IMO.

Plus, Housley first time HC so he's still figuring things out, and they have no depth.

Some good young players though including two stars from the world juniors this year.
