Josh Rosen Elite 11 2014

Aup155 : 1/13/2018 4:43 pm
Happy Saturday folks! No sure if posted before however I stumbled across content of Josh Rosen along with Sam Darnold taking part in Trent Dilfer's Elite 11 tournament back in the summer of 2014 prior to both entering their freshmen year of college.

Why I thought it was useful? I saw a video online of Dilfer on the Rich Eisen Show. Dilfer's comments on Darnold during their experience in his Elite 11 peaked my interest.

It gave me a better understanding of how Josh performs under pressure situations. I came away getting a better idea as to how his mind works. I know he's not the same person he was 4 years ago. He's more mature (we hope) but you also get a chance to understand just how intelligent and meticulous he is. Even as a high school senior, some of his coaches, including Trent, conceded to Josh in terms of brain power.

I think the kid means well, it just comes across as arrogant or defiant at times. There were times during the documentary that you end up saying "wow" this kid has something special.

Is he intelligent, yes. Does he "need" football, probably not. Is he incredibly competitive, is he a leader and can he be a great teammate, I believe so. But thats just my opinion. I'm not a talent evaluator, head coach or GM by any stretch of the imagination.

If you want to skip to the parts where they are focusing strictly on Rosen, I recommend you fast forward to 4:58, 19:19, 28:22, 33:50, 45:23, 46:34, 51:28, 1:02:13, 1:06:46

***The reason I don't have times posted on Darnold from the Elite 11 documentary is because he was barely mentioned.

Trent Dilfer on Rich Eisen show breaking down Darnold and Rosen.

Darnold- 6:37
Rosen- 7:57
Saw this and was impressed but

Still doesn't make me feel better about his health. Trade down and stock pile picks
Two Concussions Already?

And you believe he can thrive in the NFL? Sorry but the NFL is a BIG LEAP from College football. If he gets concussions in college he will be in a coma in the NFL. I would recommend that the G-Men pass on Rosen. Trade down and get more picks. We have Eli and Webb who are both HEALTHIER than this kid is. It is unfortunate that a young man with his talent is too frail to gamble on. Does not matter what his skill is, if he will be unable to hold up and play.

What if the doctors who check him out at the combine say his past injuries and concussions are of minimal concern as a predictor of future issues? Would you then be onboard with using the #2 overall pick on him?

I take your point, but we don't really know how healthy Eli is. We know he doesn't appear on the injury report, but it's not humanly possible to take the hits he's taken and not be hurt. It's Eli's way to simply never talk about injury, and to play if he can walk, but he's not superhuman. He has had offseason surgeries that weren't publicized much. He's not as healthy as he may appear.
Two concussions

You really believe that this kids have only had two concussions. It is a major contact sport where players don't tell coach's and there staff if they have one. Just because he reported them doesn't mean the other players have not had them. Plus the kid is 20 years old at 18 and 19 you are not as strong and you will get them more often. For example Mayfield is 22 turns 23 in April.
It is hard to ignore

Mayfields numbers two straight seasons of over 83 tds and just 14 ints. Pass completion of 70 percent. He also moves and runs the ball at times.

two straight seasons of over 40tds.
There is a lot of talent

and I would look to trade to 5 or 4 in this draft. I have a feeling Denver would give up a lot.
Dilfer's segment with Eisen has been posted
