Anatomy of Shurmur's Offense - Giants.com

jbeintherockies : 1/22/2018 8:23 pm
I didn't see this posted and I'm not sure why. Interesting article, especially the part about how much they ran the ball and who has influenced his offense (hint: not Kelly). I like that he ran a lot of PA pass with the Vikings, too.

I know, they didn't look too good against the iggles. But let's give the guy a chance. He is far more experienced and accomplished than McAdoo was.

He also added 34 receptions for 193 receiving yards and a touchdown while proving to be the Giants' best receiving back.

I didn't know he was the Giants' best receiving back.

He is going to have to be in Shurmur's offense.

Vikings ran Outside Zone 22.5% of the time in 2017 (2nd-most used concept)
Avg. 4.3 yards/attempt on those runs

Giants ran Outside Zone just 10.1% in 2017 - would expect that to increase

An Andy Reid WC offense and a bunch of concepts concocted from Chip Kelly, without all that hurry up bullshit.
unbalanced O-line

I like it when offenses use unbalanced o-lines. I don't think the Giants ran that once this year.

WR's in Shurmur's offense

...Shurmur and wide receivers coach Darrell Hazell have trained the teams receivers to play any spot in the offense ...

That's interesting. According to Zimmer, that wide receiver versatility makes it a lot harder for the opposing defense to know what routes the receivers will be running.

I'm impressed that they have that on Giants.com

That's the kind of stuff that's for football nerds not the mass appeal BS they usually have.

The guys they put on the field couldn't even handle the basics consistently. I imagine doing things like that would be like giving a first-time driver a manual-transmission car.
He's going to love E.E.

Any WR spot. TE...or set back.
If they are keeping Eli as starter
GiantsRage2007 : 1/22/2018 9:23 pm : link
He is a tremendous play action passer, which has been sorely missed the last few years.

Fix the O-Line. Run the ball. Play action pass.

Sounds good to me!

Don't forget Ellis. I think he will be perfect in this O. He can be the TE on the line of scrimmage (traditional), move TE, fullback, etc. I think EE and Ellis compliment each other well. There is no reason why the Giants shouldn't play a lot two TE sets. They could run bunch, ace, I, ... you name it.

Quick and decisive enough to handle outside run, excellent pass receiver, improving blocker.

We will see some pump fakes ,shoulder fakes, and dynamic plays from Eli

Eli needs a good QB coach because he gets lazy with his faking and his mechanics he seemed to pay more attention to those little things when Sullivan was his QB coach.
Eli

Come on guys he cant play games in the backfield he will fall down trying move around in the backfield. I watched Tom Brady take a quick snap and drive the ball two or three yards upfield and tried to imagine Eli doing that and just had to admit cant be done. Ill be the first to ask myself why but its just not something Eli can do you would only be tricking yourselves.

Don't forget Ellis.
I think Ellis was really under-used this year, especially after the injuries at WR.
