I know it's crazy to talk about the Super Bowl for a 3-13 team. But I spoke to a ton of people around the league last week and the overwhelming sentiment is they can turn things around quickly

Dan Duggan @DDuggan21

The Eagles went from last place in the NFC East to Super Bowl champs in one year. How the Giants can duplicate that turnaround

Of course they can

If Bettcher is as good as we expect and they upgrade the offensive line then this team could surprise. A starting caliber LB wouldn't hurt either.
It certainly cant get any worse...

Difference between Eagles and Giants
nyjuggernaut2 : 2/5/2018 11:44 am : link
is that Philly was competitive two years ago, and finished around .500, all with a rookie QB. Giants were complete garbage and barely won 3 games.

Two years ago the Giants were 11-5.
it is proven time and time again that the NFL is a year to year league

and that coaching is the #1 variable. Seeing what Pederson did with not only Wentz but Foles really shows how big of an impact system, playcalling, and balance can have on results. Not to mention Schwartz' impact on their D.
Sy said it about the Rams in his game review, and

JonC has underscored the fact that a draft pick and a veteran FA added to the Oline could make all the difference, and I happen to agree with him.

Who needs beat writers.....

As I've said on multiple threads, most people including so-called experts, thought our roster this past year was good enough to compete for playoffs, maybe even the SB. The main concern was the OL.

Our record last year should be thrown out the window. It was largely due to bad coaching, play calling and OL.

I think we upgraded our GM and HC, possibly significantly. And it is very possible they can upgrade our OL, roster and turn it around quickly.
Yes Giants were 11-5 a year ago but here’s a test

2013- 7-9
2014- 6-10
2015- 6-10
2016- 11-5
2017- 3-13

Are you really thinking we are more like 2016 or more like 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017?
No doubt some teams have more talent than others...
Milton : 2/5/2018 11:55 am : link
But all teams have holes at some positions that need to be addressed in the off-season. Good health is what will be the key to turning things around in 2018 just as bad health was the key to the collapse of 2017.

In three of the last four years the Giants were one of the most injured teams in the league (if not the most injury-riddled team). The one year they enjoyed good health they went 11-5 and made the playoffs.
one of the great things about the NFL
Dr. D : 2/5/2018 12:05 pm : link
unlike MLB and NBA, is how quickly a team can rebuild. The fact that there aren't too many guaranteed contracts and that roster turnover is inherently higher helps the rebuild process. Also, a good coach can be the difference in a few wins.

I could see us being a playoff team in '18.
I disagree vehemently
The_Boss : 2/5/2018 12:06 pm : link
I think if everything breaks right this could be a 7 win team. My initial
guess is we are likely 5-11 or 6-10. Looking at the opponents for 2018, I think they go 1-7 or 2-6 on the road and 4-4 at home. I’m expecting another top 10 pick in April of 2019.

+2

Two LBers would be grand.
Same guy one year ago...

claimed the Giants were Superbowl contenders. These guys rely pretty heavily on the database that doubles as the body part they sit on.
I don't know
jvm52106 : 2/5/2018 12:10 pm : link
if we can compete for a SB next year but I do believe our record was more attitude, OL and injuries.

It can be argued that we could have won Games 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 12, 13 and 15.

The coaching staff was a mess and player attitude was poor to say the least. The Oline was a festering pile of dog shit turnstiles...

I think with some right moves we could be moving forward and could get in the playoffs. The FA period will be a big step in that direction.

I truely belive with a healthy OBJ we would have won closer to 6 games.

we are closer to a middle of the pack team then peiple realize and we upgraded both units bringing in 2 new inovative modern systems and have high draft picks. We can jump back in thr playoffs and always have a chance.
LOL, come Duggan, don't you have any real news?

Don't forget

In addition to whatever roster turnover there is, and hopefully coaching improvement, we also get a certain gamebreaking WR back (fingers-crossed).

All outcomes are on the table. If you don't believe that (in either direction), you're ignoring reality.
Yes and especially
RetroJint : 2/5/2018 12:15 pm : link
since the Giants have removed any vestige of Gilbride’s run&shoot offense ( his Sat enlightenment ), a quick turn around is quite feasible for the Giants. This guy is speaking exactly to whom around the league? He’s talking to himself , more like it.

The Giants have talent. I mean big whoop-so does everybody else. The Giants have receivers, actually . And 2 defensive tackles , one of whom will have to play DE in 18, to prevent teams from honking it up inside , as Parcells used to say. Except against Philadelphia and Dallas, that is.

put the batteries back in that countdown clock
mdc1 : 2/5/2018 12:24 pm : link
. Yikes. Maybe they can play "dirty dancing" music for inspiration.

You're the one who mentioned "two years ago."
Giants should

go out and sign Norwell and Solder. Want to solidify the line? Bring those two mammoth's in and lets begin.

Well, if you do a roster comparison, you'll find far more players on the current roster from the 16 team than the 13, 14, and 15 teams. I think 17 was an outlier caused primarily by McAdoo with Reese's support.
They’re will be around 8 new teams
UConn4523 : 2/5/2018 7:26 pm : link
in the playoffs next year, some of them are going to be from teams who were below .500. It happens every year, all you have to do is pay attention. It’s amazing how many people seem to forget this.
Why can't we go to the playoffs next year?
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 2/5/2018 7:38 pm : link
We make the right moves this offseason, play a cupcake schedule, & nobody is really aiming for us. It's definitely doable. Rebuilds in the NFL are, for the most part, a thing of the past.
The only big difference between the Eagles and the Giants is ...
Manny in CA : 2/6/2018 2:05 am : link

Not the QB. Journeyman Nick Foles just took them to the Promise land, we have Eli Manning who is better.

The difference is the O-line, theirs is one of the best, if not the best - ours STINKS.

Fix the O-line and we can go from 11-5 to a serious championship run (3-13 was an aberration).
Biggest obstacle
bc4life : 2/6/2018 8:03 am : link
is fixing the OLine. Biggest question re: that is how many players are salvageable?

I was wondering whether next year's O-line might be - Wheeler, Dunker, Jones, Jerry/Fluker/player to be named, and Flowers.
