shockeyisthebest8056 : 2/5/2018 7:46 pm
The great actor probably best known as Frasier's dad passed away today at the age of 77 according to the NY Daily News and many other media reports.

I also loved him in "In Treatment", "Say Anything" and "Primal Fear".

RIP.
i knew John

when I worked as an assistant at ICM in the mid 80s. I sent him on a few castings. Nicest most unpretentious guy you could ever meet. RIP.

like-able actor, even when playing the dad in Say Anything. I will drink a Ballantine in his honor (if I can find one.)
Didn't start acting until he was 37

There's a lesson there.

Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce, despite their characters, were not knowledgeable on fine art, opera, wine, etc. So, for their performances, they got pointers on these things from....John Mahoney, the rough-edged Marty Crane, who was an aficionado of all those things.

A very good supporting player, both on Frasier and in movies such as Say Anything, In the Line of Fire, and Suspect, among others.
he was excellent in Moonstruck

Loved him in everything he did. This one came to mind, right after Frasier, of course.

My brother worked at ICM in the mid-to-late '80s 'til the late '90s, first as an assistant to Paul Martino (I think), then as an assistant to Andrew Suss.
