It sets the franchise back considerably. He needs to come back for at least 20-30 games next year to prove to free agents he is good. Do they still give him big contract this offseason?
but solves the fake quandary regarding buying or selling.
You would think but being the Knicks I expect them to trade for KP's replacement using the Bulls 2nd lol
yeah, that's true. It's a real test for Perry. It's clear what the Knicks should do. Trade vets for any kind of assets, play the kids, wait out the bad contracts. But the Knicks haven't done that for the last 20 years so, it's hard to expect them to do that.
About this is phil Jackson was right about injury concerns. I love Porzingis, but there are at least 3 times every game where he has an awkward landing. I am concerned about giving him 5 Years $160 million with how much he gets hurt. The jaylen Brown and pick from last year would have been a good haul.
The worst part about this is he loses the offseason to get stronger.

First Odell, then Eli gets benched in a stupid way, the Eagles win the Super Bowl and now KP goes down.
The next two days will reveal a lot about Perry/Mills. Do they have the guts to trade away vets like Lee and O'quinn (and maybe even Kanter)? Or do they double down on this ridiculous playoff chase and trade Willie for a vet to "help them make the playoffs?"
This franchise does not only have a horrible owner and what appears to be weak management, they are also very unlucky. Bernard King, McDyess, and now KP.
All devastating knee injuries.
when Phil was getting killed for listening to offers for KP.
This past year's #3 pick (Tatum), Brooklyn's pick this year, and one of Boston's young players on top of Frank and their own lottery pick and all of a sudden things look very different.
Truly devastating injury, just deflating for the entire team, fanbase and KP. I hope that KP can come back stronger from the rehab and gets back around this time next year, no need to rush him at any point.
Perry should be on the phone and be in full blown tank mode, selling off players for whatever they can get.
This team should not win more than 2 or 3 games the rest of the season.
has been absolutely no luck whatsoever. Without KP there is no reason to watch at all. I am sure they will fill the roster with veteran journeymen to make the games palatable for the corporate crowds that fill the seats. This team really cant get out of its own way.
Who wants to bet that the Nets will regain prominence before the Knicks?
Hornacek is good for tanking but he hs to go if he refuses to play the young guys.
No sense knocking Frank, but at this point hea more Weis than Giannis. He has to get experience if healthy, funny how we were weary of DSJs knee, now its our pick that has knee issues at age 19 despite not playing extensively. I love how fans insist on seeing greatness in him, based on what? Yeah itd be nice, but lets face reality here. How would our outlook be different with Mitchell?
Hardaway is a loser, Mills is an idiot for signing him. How soon before someone suggests attaching a pick to rid ourselves of his contract?
How pathetic is it that Burke, a G League All-Star and Jazz castoff, is now our one bright spot?
Lets see what Perry does before the deadline, but the next positive step will be a first for the Knicks.
I know there are certain aspects of his game that can be a bit frustrating at times, but Unicorn is one of the most fun players to watch in this league. A high pick is a decent reward for having to suffer through another year though. Worst part is his offseason workouts getting hampered because of this.
Awful news. This team is cursed, really feel bad for KP
On the bright side, I would expect him to come back fully recovered and its not like KPs game is reliant on his athleticism. This isnt a Derrick Rose situation where the guy will never be the same. There were concerns that KP would turn down an extension in the offseason, maybe now hes much more willing to accept a deal now rather than putting it off and risking another injury.
There is no reason not to play Willy now. This opens up a ton of front court minutes and they had better not go to Joakim Noah. We need to just focus on developing Willy and Frank while losing as many games as possible.
If we can max out at 25 wins, there is a chance, they can sneak into the Top 5. The only silver lining to this would be to get another franchise player. With KP, the Knicks were going to play to win the rest of the season.

They have to go to hornacek and tell him it is time to go young...
i really hope he can be on the shorter time table and still get back for a lot of next season.
On the plus side it is good to be forced to sell and hopefully move into the top 7 or so for the lottery.
25 wins is unlikely. Has us finishing the year like 2-25. Unless we trade literally everyone (Kanter, KOQ, Lee, Jack, Beasley, etc..) this team will still win closer to 8-10 games id guess.
is giving payton away i wouldnt be interested. He is extremely inconsistent. Now ORL has made some real crap trades recently so maybe they will give him away for pennies on the dollar. He def still has a lot of upside and puts together some really good games, followed of course by some real shitty ones.

Italianju - you are right if Hornacek continues with the vets, they will 8-10 more games. I agree with NYGiants, Perry/Mills needs to go to Hornacek and say play the young guys, especially in crunch time minutes, if he declines, fire him and let Kurt Rambis coach. If Rambis coaches, we are assured losing every game.
but i dont love it. You are adding an extra year with Biyombo vs. Noah. Now BB is a much better player, but still way overpriced. That said that trade seems really bad for ORL. Basically give away Payton just to dump one year of BB?

Biyombo has same contract..
Orlando doesn't want to resign Payton, he is restricted
so then why does anyone think that ORL would do that? To get a 2nd rounder? They could just let Elf walk and keep the better overpaid center. There would def be another asset coming from NY.

I have a friend works in Philly media, says Knicks are now shopping Lee, take it fwiw he has been right but also wrong so I don't normally post what he tells me...
according to the reporters, that before KP's injury, they were going into the trade deadline with the goal being to make the playoffs.I thought Perry was smarter than that(Mills is a lost cause) but seeing that they were entertaining trades for a 23 year old player, who was first team all rookie but can't see the floor under Hornacek because he was coaching for his job, scares me. Now,the goal should be to move KOQ,Lee,Thomas,Noah(???),Beasley,Jacks and play the kids.Bring Hicks up to fill KP's spot & play him as well.Between now & 3:00 PM EST tomorrow,if they don't make major moves & Hornacek plays the same lineup, rotation sans KP on Thursday,we're fucked! I'm old enough that I've seen both championship seasons but for you younger guys,I hope you see one in your lifetime but I'm not very confident that you will!
I have a friend works in Philly media, says Knicks are now shopping Lee, take it fwiw he has been right but also wrong so I don't normally post what he tells me...
I have heard that OKC and Detroit are hot for Lee.
that Lee, KOQ, or Jack should be on this team moving forward. I really like Lee, but he wont be here when we are good again and he has some value. Id have to assume we could get like a 2nd for Beasley. I know they play different positions but i could see whoever misses out on Evans turning around and looking at beasley. Teams that need scoring should def be interested in Beasley
giving up a second basically to be able to match what teams offer

unfortunately it appears that the market is clogged with teams looking to unload vets. If the best you can get for KOQ is a decent #2, I guess you take it since he's likely leaving this summer. For Lee, it might make sense to keep him around and see if you can do better for him down the road.
RE: giving up a second basically to be able to match what teams offer
Payton? Not terrible I suppose? he's improved his game pretty consistently. but he's gonna need to get paid.
everyone is saying there's not going to be much money available this summer. So maybe it would make sense to keep a guy like Payton (and also McDermott) if you can get them to stay on reasonable deals. Most of these guys aren't going to be able to do better than the MLE.
and let Willy play as much as he wants. If the Knicks front office doesn't see this as the perfect "excuse" to tank, they will regret it indefinitely and Perry will have been just another disappointment in a long line of disappointments.
We're gonna have to schedule another open panel discussion
Just got an injury exception for Leur I believe. Lee and oquinn for stamina and contracts 2 years or less
they could accept KOQ or Beasley right into the exception without having to take $$ back. Of course that's the case with any other player making in that range. Additionally, teams over the luxury tax may even attach picks to players to drop into that exception. In other words, our vets are ok but I don't know if they're good enough to get anything substantial back in return.
At the ridiculous prices, now I dont know if I want to.
Prices should be much less ridiculous now. Only going down
Is there a better approach than just watching StubHub? I gave my eye on a couple baseline tickets. Theyd immediately be the most expensive tickets Ive ever purchased, by about double. Would be really nice if they plummeted.

The Knicks are finalizing a deal to send center Willy Hernangomez to Charlotte, league sources confirm. Hernangomez had been unhappy with his role in New York. The deal was first reported by Yahoo Sports.
Shams Charania @ShamsCharania
Sources: Charlotte is sending Johnny O'Bryant and two second-round draft picks to the Knicks for Willy Hernangomez.
The worst part- if these are 2018 picks, it will be Cleveland's second rounder and Houston's second rounder. In other words, end of the 2nd round picks...
becomes an adequate defender, and his offensive game explodes in 2-3 years, and he becomes an all-star lol.
Even if he doesn't, and is the exact same player he is today for the rest of his career, he's going to be a helluva lot more valuable than Johnny O'Bryant and whichever jokers they choose with those picks.
The worst part- if these are 2018 picks, it will be Cleveland's second rounder and Houston's second rounder. In other words, end of the 2nd round picks...
Please someone try to sell this trade to me. I'm not even the biggest Willy fan, but you just traded an all rookie center locked in a contract for the vet min until 2020. At worst hes a solid backup. Not to mention hes best friends with your franchise player who just suffered a crippling injury.
Explain to me how the Knicks aren't dsyfcuntional again? I can't wait to watch the youth movement of Jack/ Lee/ Lance down the stretch...Here comes another pick between 10-12.
How fans can be better general managers that these executives. Mills went to Princeton. What. Amoron. Willy was locked in for 2 more years on a cheap contract

We talked about this yesterday. It doesn't matter who is the face of the decisions. From every front office executive that we've had for the past 20 years, the one constant is James Dolan.
Most likely the knicks will be finishing this season without 1 future piece in their starting lineup. What a disgraceful franchise.
Don't forget the Knicks gave up a 2nd round pick for Scott Perry...
Oh, see, that's why they needed those second round picks!
What would you rather have? The Knicks 2019 2nd round pick or the Hornets 2020/201 picks? Because I would argue the Knicks gave up more for Scott Perry then the Hornets gave up for Willy.
Explain to me why the Knicks needed to trade a 2nd round pick for Scott Perry again?
Well, Steve Mills has been in the Knicks organization forever and has never made an intelligent move and Perry is the guy responsible for building the worst team in the NBA.
So to answer your question, yes. They are complete and utter morons.
Mills is not a basketball guy. How he is in charge of basketball
operations just shows you how clueless Dolan is. Graduating from Princeton and looking good in a suit dont translate to making good basketball decisions.
Letting him sign Hardaway as an interim was just idiotic.
I thought Perry would be different, jury is still out.
I liked Perry and was intrigued by the things he was saying earlier in the year and thought there was finally a guy in charge who had a plan to do it the right way. Well that didn't last long. More of the same again. Another guy seduced by the quick fix.
when Phil was getting killed for listening to offers for KP.
This past year's #3 pick (Tatum), Brooklyn's pick this year, and one of Boston's young players on top of Frank and their own lottery pick and all of a sudden things look very different.
Phil would've taken it. I wanted no part of trading KP, but if Boston offered the #3 pick AND this year's Brooklyn pick, you'd have to do it. No chance that was on the table.
to just cut the Knicks out and not care. And yet something always pulls me back or gives me a small sense of hope. And every fucking time I buy in long or short term the Knicks shit all over me and everyone else.
I just can't take this team anymore. I'm sure I will be wagging my fucking tail all fucking excited in about 700 days or so..."we have cap room...we have KP back healthy a decent core of young hungry players"----and then the entire team will get hurt in a charity pickup game or something...they just can't get things right.
I'm more Knicks depressed today than i've been in a while. They constantly push that envelop too. Just when I think I can't get any angrier or frustrated the Knicks raise the bar.
Oh and you can bet your ass the Frank will suck balls when all is said n done. Cmon...a drafted PG reach an elite potential here with the Knicks? Get real.
Yeah, this a rock bottom type of day, no question.
KP is a star. People can debate his future, his ceiling, etc., whatever - the guy's averaging 23 per night and leading the NBA in blocks and he's only 22 years old. It's crazy what he's accomplished in 2.5 years. Elite scoring and elite rim protection and he's a few years away from entering his prime. Just have to pray to the basketball gods he comes back strong.
once per year. I'm numb to it actually. It makes you appreciate any success that you have with your other teams(sorry mets fans). In the grand scheme of things, this could be a blessing. The reality is that we should be focused on asset gathering for 2020. Our focus for the next 2 years SHOULD have been to get the best possible picks and as many good young players as possible. This should help that. So assuming KP comes back 100%(most guys do this day and age), we should be in position to compete in 2020 if we make the right decisions now.
That being said, I know the owner doesn't share the same patience and we will probably try our best to compete the next few seasons and make the playoffs.

If I'm being brutally honest I really think my pure "love" of sports has taken a major hit with how bad my teams generally are. I still obviously "feel" it when the Giants are good and it's a big game etc but I really think "how bad" my teams routinely are has taken a toll on my real passion for the teams.
