NFT: How much water do you drink in a given day?

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 2/7/2018 12:31 pm
I was just having a conversation with a colleague about this because he just got back from Mexico & was telling me about how he was only drinking water out of bottles & didn't go anywhere near tap water. When at work, he must drink about 1.5 gallons a day, which I find to be way above the necessary what your body needs. On a normal day, I consume about 2 liters of water. I'll have 2 16.9 bottles of Poland Springs & 1 33.8 bottle of it as well.

Just curious if I'm in the normal range of what most of you guys have in a given day.

(It's the offseason anyways. Only so many mocks we can discuss.)
I think it is recommended that you drink

Dr. D : 2/7/2018 1:01 pm : link
I'm not an MD btw, but recent studies find that too much water is not good.

Too much water dilutes electrolytes, overworks kidneys and can actually increase risk of stroke.

I drink water when I'm thirsty. Probably ends up being roughly 48 oz. per day (not including what I mix with an alcoholic bev. in the evening).

I can't remember the last time I drank soda, btw.

You really don't need to drink eight glasses of water each day - ( New Window )
Fivehead & Milton Your opinion is wrong.
Giants1956 : 2/7/2018 1:25 pm : link
the recommendation is to drink an 1 oz per day
for every 2 lbs of weight. A 200 lb person requires 100 oz
of water a day. Drink your water filtered.

Beer like all alcoholic drinks is a diuretic, the pissing
you do when you drink starts with the diuretic effect.

Water is necessary to detox your body. If you want to feel
good and more importantly look good, drink water.

A person drinking 192 oz during work hours is drinking too
much unless they weigh close to 400 lbs. Drinking too
much water, can cause long term problems.

When thirsty, drink water. Coffee is also a diuretic and
will cause you to pee more oz than the coffee you drank.

Normally I would go along with 'listening' to
your body. But for most people, they must drink the water before they are thirsty (I understand for most, this
might not be appealing), by the time your thirst kicks
in and you haven't already drank water, you'll start to
consume too much water, more than your body can handle
over a short period of time and then you piss.

This thread is co-incidental. My water filter went out
Sunday and I've been drinking bottled water. It doesn't
taste too good. So I've actually drank less water, not intentionally and I can feel the difference.

So much of your post is just plain myth. But I’ll focus on the statement above. Coffee IS a diuretic (caffeine actually), but you do not pee more than you consume. Caffeinated drinks can safely be part of you daily liquid intake need.

How many accounts is this clown allowed to have? Hey Bockman, your writing “style” is a dead giveaway.

Coffee is not a diuretic. The myth that it is was started by a 1928 study that included a whopping 3 participants. Now coffee isn’t a great way to hydrate yourself, as the caffeine does cause urination (and before you start Bockman, technically, a diuretic causes you to discharge more than the liquid included in the diuretic), but you can other wise hydrate properly even if you drink a lot of coffee.

I drink at least 100 oz of water a day, and that does not include other beverages. I also drink about 40 Oz of coffee a day. And other than an occasional glass of red wine, that is about all of my liquid intake.

The 8x8 rule was never supposed to be about how much water to drink. It was supposed to be about total water intake, including water from food.

If you eat fruit and vegetables, drink coffee or tea or beer or soda, milk on cereal, etc., those all count toward total water intake.

Myth or not, I've had multiple friends who had kidney stones that their doctor told them to cut out the iced tea from their diet if they wanted to help avoid them in the future.
