on Dan Campbell or Reich than Josh McDaniels. If anything this whole fiasco has proven that McDaniels hasn't learned anything from his time in Denver. He seems to genuinely believe that he is a younger Belichick.
Sure it's a dick move, but no contract was signed. He had a change of heart. Didn't want to move family. Didn't feel right. Why is this so wrong? I get it, other coaches are hired now, but that's there choice to sign with a team that has no head coach.

Really? "Sure it's a dick move" is more than enough to get crucified in 2018.

I guess but people in this country accept jobs all the time and then change their minds. Way to sensitive of a country and way to much hate.

How about Protocol? Plus he had 10 days to change his mind. And it was Dick by Kraft. He had 10 days to address it and decides the day before the official deal to talk Lil Bill into provide increased coaching mentoring to JM since he will be the heir apparent HC..which is why he turned down Colts.
5 years back from Denver and it took til the day before the guy leaves to offer him the HC in waiting title? Couldn't decide that 10 days earlier? Wasn't worth it BEFORE he took interviews?

REICH.
But if not I. Hope its Campbell.
He learned well.
Nice to see an ex Gman succeed; thinking the organization had a hand in his development somehow.

He verbally agreed to take the job. They went out and announced that he was going to be their HC. Now they look stupid and you have to consider that the guy they hire will be known as their backup plan. It might even deter some candidates from wanting to interview.
But Im thinking people talked more sense into him...Colts are not a good organization..
I have been a huge fan of Campbell since 2002. He was a huge reason why Shockey had such a good rookie season. He was the best blocking TE in football and he allowed Shockey to run more routes than stay inline and block. When he left after that year I wasn't happy and the Giants never brought in any TE that was close to him as a blocker until Ellison. I remember Shockey crediting Campbell for helping him to become a solid blocker during his rookie year. After he was drafted there was concern about Shockey's ability to block but he exceeded expectations during his rookie season.
He had a change of heart and walked away. It sucks for the Colts at the moment, but over the long run they are better off not having someone in the HC role who is conflicted as to whether it was the right move for he and his family. If the Pats approached him and said that Bill will be retiring this year or next, and that its his job to lose when it happens, and his heart is in Boston, then he did the right things for everyone.

It is a dick move because he also left an organization scrambling to find a coach and left assistant coaches in a position where they had left their previous jobs and were now assistants to a coach that might not have necessarily wanted those specific coaches so they risk being on the street at any sign of acrimony. If his heart was not that into it, he should have informed Indianapolis well before he did and definitely should not have started to fill the coaching staff.
But Im thinking people talked more sense into him...Colts are not a good organization...
Yeah but he agreed to coach them. I agree that Irsay is a joke but why agree in the first place?
It also becomes a dick move when you convince a number of assistant coaches to join your staff, and then walk away from the job after they've signed contracts. From all reports, he didn't even give them a heads-up until after he officially backed away.
FWIW, sounds like the Colts are going to keep the assistant coaches, which is only going to make things more awkward for whoever the new head coach is going to be.

however I cannot completely trash McDaniels. If he had second thoughts before signing the contract, if he goes ahead to Indy it's almost definitely going to be a crash and burn tenure. Obviously, he did the 3 assistant coaches dirty, but if Kraft really gave him a sweetened deal (with any assurance he'd be the future HC in NE), he'd be foolish to leave.

pfft...if he didn't want top go, he should not have said yes and hired people. The guy is a jerk.

Seems like Reich deserves a shot...all the way back to the Bill's days as a backup, everything I've heard is positive.

I'll give the Colts a little credit here. It is a difficult situation and they don't want to put people on the street. The next HC is going to have to figure it out, let everyone find a landing spot.

That is not what I heard ... wasn't it Indy who brought the whole "deflategate case" to light that lead to Brady being suspended for 4 games? Kraft holds a grudge to ... met with JM and sweetened his deal just to screw with Indy. The only poetic justice in the whole thing is JM might be just a pawn between 2 owners and not even know it.
For those of here long enough...so did Hope!

Bill Parcells has spoken to Colts GM Chris Ballard to sell him on Dan Campbell, sources say.
He verbally agreed to take the job. They went out and announced that he was going to be their HC. Now they look stupid and you have to consider that the guy they hire will be known as their backup plan. It might even deter some candidates from wanting to interview.
