NFT: Woman flushes support hampster down toilet to board flight

Jalapeno : 2/8/2018 3:00 pm
"A college student said she flushed her emotional support hamster down the toilet after Spirit Airlines refused to let her bring her furry pet on the plane.

Aldecosea skipped her flight and tried to rent a car instead, but said she was too young to rent one. So she did what she felt was the most humane choice."

It's a good thing the lady with the emotional support peacock did not try the same thing.

that hamster so much that she flushed it down the toilet rather than re-arranging her travel plans.
Lmao you can't make this stuff up

What the heck
ok, what the fuck is a support animal?
MetsAreBack : 2/8/2018 3:07 pm : link
I've been reading a lot about this lately. I understand dogs that lead certified blind people around... got that.

But what the fuck is a support pet? Is this a new phenominon?

It's basically a sleazy way to get your pets to fly for free.
Of course PETA is involved now.

This “support animal” thing has to be something new, right?

someone tried to board a United plane with a support peacock.

the woman with the hamster should have kept it warm inside a bodily cavity :)
When they wouldn't let me take my support gerbil on a flight...
Milton : 2/8/2018 3:15 pm : link
I hid it inside my underwear, but when I got off the plane the gerbil was gone.
First wrong thing she did
Modus Operandi : 2/8/2018 3:16 pm : link
Was fly Spirit Airlines.
Something about this story is just not making sense...
figgy2989 : 2/8/2018 3:18 pm : link
She goes to school in Texas, she is from Florida. She was flying from Baltimore to Florida. Unless she just purchased this hamster before the flight home, she had to travel with it to get to where she was.

Why not just take the same course of travel (or same airline) that she used to get to Baltimore?
Oh boy...

No, it's been around for awhile. I know a few people who travel with their (relatively small) pets as support animals. They all readily admit to me that they simply don't want to have their pets in the cargo hold and simply bs'd some doctor that they have anxiety flying and need the animal with them.

I just always thought it was emotionally weak snow-flake fuckers who say they need a cuddle in stressful situations.

Wish I'd been there. Roasted hamster is decent, I hear. Hate to waste a good piece of meat.

I've only heard it in regard to vets using them to help cope. Shame some are taking advantage by claiming they actually need one when they clearly don't.

Yeah, a lot of animal lovers think the cargo-hold thing is inhumane so they feel justified in exploiting this loop-hole to bring them in the cabin.

Of course flushing your pet down a toilet is frowned upon no matter how distraught you are so I am not sure why PETA or other animal groups would be sympathetic to this woman (if they are).

PETA is not sympathetic to her - they said she should be criminally charged.
I suspect that these people with support animals are witches.

All of the characters in Harry Potter had support animals too.
Poor 'ol hamster probably didn't see that coming.....

I've got three kids in college...
Dan in the Springs : 2/8/2018 4:56 pm : link
it's been a real thing for several years now among that set. There are students with support animals everywhere in their apartments and dorms. When I asked my kids their opinion was that most of them were ways of getting around the no-pet situation in their student housing, although admittedly it seems many more students are suffering from anxiety and other emotional issues than before.

My son's poor girlfriend showed up to her new apartment to find a support bunny thanks to her roommate. Rabbits are stinky animals. I felt bad for her.
I remember one time they wouldn't let me on the plane
short lease : 2/8/2018 5:17 pm : link
with my support cockroach so I let him go free right there at the gate, wiped away my tears, and boarded the plane. Toughest flight ever.

It's like a comfort pet on steroids.
Next time she should consider Xanax.

Or get a real pet, one that isn’t disposable.

The funny thing is, murderimg the hamster will probably haunt her for the rest of her life, which will only require more emotional support.

Speaking of animals. Spirit packs people on planes like they’re animals. Can’t pay me to fly Spirit.
What do don’t get
Bill L : 2/8/2018 6:45 pm : link
Is that there is a severe risk of allergies, asthma, and even anaphylaxis to many more passengers than those needing emotional support.

And, is it just a plane need or are the animals a 24/7 therapy?
therapy dogs

Dogs, sure.

Hamsters eat their own babies. They don't count.

Dogs are also used with people that have developmental disabilities. The dogs sense when the people start stimming.

Great post. That's basically a perfect reasonable time to use xanax .

I would be mortified if I was responsible for coherently flushing any domestic animal down a toilet then hopping on a spirit jet then making the news
I am wondering what kind of toilets
Jalapeno : 2/8/2018 10:57 pm : link
the restroom had.

Was the hamster immediately sucked down with one of those high pressure loud toilets?

Or was it an older toilet and she watched the hamster swirl around for a few laps clawing to get out before slowly getting sucked down with a light and airy gurgle sound.

What if the toilet had clogged?

Well she went to the papers on this, and is now considering suing the airline (for what i have no idea), not the other way around. So "making the news" shouldnt be mortifying for her.

Second, yes most of us would be "mortified" if we killed a pet or person. Of course, most of us wouldn't do it in the first place so not sure where you're going with that one.

This is a perfect example of what is wrong with the world. Forgetting for a moment that this woman needs a hamster as a "stress animal" this woman decided to flush the hamster down the toilet. The airline didn't make her do it. She made the choice and now she is crying victim and will probably sue the airline. If she does file a lawsuit I hope the airline files a counter suit and kicks this woman's ass.
