Agreed
A mock draft where every 1st round pick is traded. Â
That being said, if we force ourselves to consider a trade scenario for every team, it's possible a few potential deals that make all the sense in the world start to emerge. I'll leave it to you to figure out which ones those are.
am I dropping down to 21. It took a lot of sucking to get the #2 pick. The further you move away from #1 pick the less likely you are to get an impact player. I wouldn't drop down further than 8, maybe 10 at the most.
trade down scenario. They move down from 2 and all they get is the 21st, 22nd picks plus an expensive declining Glenn and a late round pick. If Gettleman made that trade that would be worse than Reese using early 1sts on Flowers and Apple.
A billion mock drafts and 98% of them aren’t realistic. Also god forbid you say their mock isn’t good turns into ww3. Slightly behind mock drafts is the ton of fantasy football drafts that seem like most of the teams picked are only possible in a 2 team league or the other people are so stupid they pick their team by what color underwear the player wears
Well, all I can say is that I have read multiple articles Â
which indicate Buffalo wants to trade up to get a QB. Also, I have been ripped previously for posts that, at the time seemed outlandish, such as suggesting firing Jerry Reese several years ago (pre-2015) or posts suggesting the offensive line needed serious upgrading (say 2012). So my track record has been pretty good.
I am only focusing on the suggestion in this mock regarding the Giants and it makes sense. If we are keeping Eli, the OL has to be addressed and it cannot be done completely in FA. Say we get Norwell, which many believe will be our number one focus, and we re-sign Pugh. That means we still need a center and more youth. I am not a draft expert but getting two top OL prospects plus Glenn is pretty good value than picking, potentially, a QB or Barkley (what the hell is he going to run behind). My main point is the Giants should trade down. Maybe this is far fetched but trading down provides the best value for the Giants this year.
To move back that far would take way more than that. Almost unprecedented.
Also, not all #2 picks are created equal. When you are trading up to #2 for a blue chip QB (and everyone knows it) it will cost more than trading up to #2 for any other position.

Agree on the main point but what about accumulating more picks though? The one thing I see people post is look at how that plan has worked for Cleveland. BUt, to me that is like point out the Lottery winner who went bankrupt. Sure, that happens when the winner is an idiot but more often than not the winners of the lottery had their lives changed for the good (in terms of finances anyway).

See my followup post. I get the concept of stockpiling picks, but it needs to be within the context of the draft. Meaning, if your targets are gone or you don't covet a prospect, so be it. But, it has also must return a cache of quality assets as it has in recent years for other teams. We're talking premium #1, #2, future #1 picks type of package.
But, with multiple blue chip QBs on tap picking #2 overall, we must consider Eli's age, the decline in his performance, and how vital this pick is for the future of the franchise. It's not so much about 2018.
Only way I could see Giants entertaining a trade is if they're not in love with any of the QBs at 2. Whatever package of picks offered must include next year's 1.
and came out of the first round with those three players, Gettleman should be fired before the Giants are on the clock for their 2nd round pick the next day.
To move back that far is fine if they first trade down with someone Â
else. Now how likely is all that, not likely at all but it would be good for the Giants. Football is a team sport that requires many good players to win. You can't talk trade down here and not get some heat from the QB club and the Barkley club.

I think it's really that simple if you boil it down. No time to get cute.
and another pick is pretty close to fair value. Not saying the Giants do this - the GM said that you need to fix your issues before the draft - but it isn't completely unreasonable.
Buffalo would have to trade up twice

They'd have to get up into the 8 to 12 range and then work another trade to reach #2 if they wanted to get it done. They might give up pick #22plus.. to get higher up and then offer us their newly obtained pick along with pick #21plus... We could probably still get G-Nelson in the 8 to 12 range and then hopefully get a LT like McGlinchey, Williams, Brown or Okorafor at 21. I'd like to trade up from pick #34 to obtain C-Billy Price and draft Will Hernandez in the 2nd round IF we fail to sign Norwell or Fluker.
but if the Giants did that exact trade I would get in my car, drive to JFK airport, buy a ticket to Arlington, Texas. Get on the plane, take a nap. Get off the plane. Rent a car. Put the address into my Waze app. Drive to the location of the draft. Park my car, buy a ticket to enter the draft. Enter the building. Look for Gettleman.. walk up and punch him square in the face. Then I would bitch slap Mara.. Then I would be escorted out by security and then arrested..
I don't want to trade back past 6.. and for that I want a kings ransom.. stay put and pick the BPA

I’m a huge OL need guy. I could live w a trade down to 6 or 7 and grab Nelson as an OL but that trade would be just dumb. If the aren’t sold on any ignorant the top QBs ok. Or if the Giants are ok w Webb I can live with it. But here some studs like you can not pass up in Barkley, Fitzpatick or Chubb that a trade back 3-4 spots would be justifiable.
Anything else is crazy
RE: A mock draft where every 1st round pick is traded. Â
Not realistic at all. If the Giants are going to move that far back, they would need to get from the Bills those two #1 picks, both Bills' 2nd round picks this year, and the Bills' 1st round and heir 2nd in 2019.
This article isn't serious, it's deliberately ridiculous Â
but as far as the Giants trading out of the #2 spot goes: Buffalo's two #1s aren't close to enough. Even for a joke article, it's not a good enough joke.
especially after this past nightmarish season, even against my preference I believe I could find the strength to completely shut down this football team for 2018.

Even a trade down to 6 for Nelson should deliver extra picks I alluded, and then you're getting a blue chip OL to set the table, etc.

I'm on board with this. These mockers are just using an impossible conceit to spotlight some individual trades that would make sense if whatever does happen were to open up the opportunity. I hope that somehow no one has any idea what/who the Giants are prioritizing when Draft Day arrives. Probably wishful thinking ...
Giants need large bodies. None of these QB's is anywhere near Franchise QB ready. All have major deficiencies. Overall they are pretty average.
Best bet is to trade down get 4-5 picks in next 2 years . Eli is now a bargain. See if Webb has the ability.
3 scenarios:
Eli plays well in 2018, Webb proves he is future. Giants have at least 2 1st & 2nd rd picks(min) Giants make playoffs in 2019 & beyond
Eli stinks. Webb is future. Eli is removed in 2018. Webb takes over . Still have 2 1st &2nd rd picks (min)Giants make playoffs in 2019 & beyond
Eli stinks. Webb stinks. Giants have 2 1st & 2nd rd picks .Giants are picking in top 5 again. Between FA & 2 1st rd picks Giants find future starter. And have drafted Ol/DL/LB to strengthen team.
Make playoffs in 2019 & beyond.
Ginats draft Rosen at 2. he proves to be a slacker and injures knees. BUST
Giants drafting in top 5 for 3rd year in row.

You may want to give DG a look at your crystal ball.
that have us trading past Cleveland's #4 but still in the top 8 have been moderately poor trades for us without the others teams 2019 first, or at least 2nd as well.
A trade with Buffalo would have to include at least 2 good young starters, for starters, in addition to the 21/22 picks; and maybe even then....
That mock is proof of the harm caused by recreational drugs.
21 overall, 22 overall, Cordy Glenn AND a future first might very well be worth that second overall pick. We make that kind of trade in last years draft and we get players like Jarrad Davis and Evan Engram plus an extra first the following year... I think everyone would have been glad to do that had we had the number two pick last year...
I still hope they stay put and pick Sammy or Saquon...
But I can see us trade back if Darnold goes one and you do not want to take a RB that early, all though I disagree with that philosophy. Barkley and Fournette are the only RB’s I have seen in the past decade I truly see worthy of being selected top 5 overall... Gurley pre ACL was right up there too
Other than Darnold or Barkley.... Chubb and Nelson are very very intriguing to me. If we take one at two and any of the other three slide out of the top ten I hope we make a move to jump up and get one even if it cost a first next year.
Agreed

So that would be three starters on the OL, plus having two first rounders next year.
That's the only way I remotely do it.
I do agree that when you draft that high, and you like a QB that's there, you take him. You simply have to considering Eli's age.

They'd also have to part with future picks
They don’t really have the cap space to go after Cousins.
Giants wouldn’t do it for two firsts. It would take both firsts this year, a second or both seconds, and a future first to start IMO
I don't want to trade back past 6.. and for that I want a kings ransom.. stay put and pick the BPA
Plus not enough for moving down
Grade C-
Two good OL in lieu a potential impact player.
I do not believe that the Giants can trade down that far.
The furthest they can go is 6-7 depending upon who would be available

Linemen can be impact players too. The Eagles have 3 all-pro offensive lineman. Pretty sure they impacted this year.

If the answer is he is not the answer, then which QB do they take - probably Darnold due to injury concerns over Rosen.
If Cleveland takes Darnold and they are not comfortable with Rosen, then they take Chubb.
I don't think they take Barkley in a RB deep draft.
All those trade downs - that's like a Madden draft
Going from the status quo to Dallas's or Tennessee's OLine is unrealistic.
