New York Giants The Giants will sign All-Pro guard Andrew Norwell It will be costly, but he has the connection to general manager Dave Gettleman, and the team's top priority this offseason is improving the line. The Giants also will re-sign Justin Pugh to play tackle. That's a lot of money to allocate to the line and two of the top linemen in free agency. -- Jordan Raanan |
The issue isn't his ability, which is average.
It's his salary demands and durability.
The issue is they'd be paying him an amount that you would expect a guy who is your best or second best lineman to make.
11? We can dream. He played in 8 games last season for an average of $1M/game. The return on that investment earned us one of the worst records in football.
Norwell as the second piece is gravy
If he can keep the back issues under control, I would gamble on him and overpay a bit.

There are plenty of potential LT options on day two of the draft. There are guys like Jamarco Jones, Crosby, Kolton Miller, O'Neill, Rankin, Okorafor, and Cappa. Isaiah Wynn is only 6'2 but he has the talent to play outside but his best position in the pros is inside at guard. Wynn would be a shorter but better version of Justin Pugh IMO. Wynn would be a perfect fit at either LG or RG and if the Giants lose their LT he could slide outside and hold down the fort if needed.
The few times he played LT or RT he did very well and is good at LG too. These type of Olinemen are really useful (when healthy).
4 years, $50M, $20M guaranteed pro rated on games played. That's $12.5 average but would drop to $9.8M on 12.6 games played per year.
If he did play LT, it actually would reduce the stress on his back because he no longer would play head up against big DTs.
Move to NYC and get your child over to Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital.
We'll have Darnold/Rosen/Mayfield starting his 2nd year with a good OL & some nasty weapons to throw to.
And Jordan got a little crazy with that Norwell prediction huh.. Just about everyone is connecting those dots. However, I did hear Norwell is a real lowkey guy. I'm not sure the New York/New Jersey area and media is exactly his cup of tea.
2 grown daughters. I'd have to be convinced that the new hospital was at least as good as the previous one. Also have to consider his child's feelings about switching medical teams. The child may have bonded well with a provider.
I don't really want Solder but I believe he can move as long as he wasn't moving to the sticks.
Wheeler & Bisnowaty back up tackles
Fluker and player X back up the guards and center
Add Barkley and that running game will be a legitimate threat
Then imagine how much damage Odell, Shep and Engram do
As long as Eli can still deliver
This should be a playoff team next year despite 3-13 this year
The thing is he isn't going to get "good" Guard money. He's going to be the highest paid OG in NFL history.

The Giants aren't drafting a RB with the 2nd pick. I'd probably just get that out of your head. It's a great QB Draft. The Giants probably won't be in this spot for a long time. Their starting QB will be 38 in 2019 while making 23.2 million & can save 17 million by not having him on the roster in 2019. That's exactly what's going to happen. They aren't paying a 38 year old 23.2 million.

It is really tiresome when fans trumpet the cap hit as what Eli is being paid. The signing bonus was paid 4 years ago. He is only being paid $16.5M for this year and $17M for next year. With what starting QB's are being paid, Eli is a bargain. Dave, Mara, and Tisch might view the salary expense as a net savings compared to what others are receiving. Some will point out the QBs that have set the market are much younger with supposed upside. But the market is about to be redefined when Big Ben signs an extension (The Steelers have gone on the record that they are looking to extend Big Ben).
Pugh seems like a good guy but his 'cost' may be
too high. But, you can't get rid of everyone.

Why no John Jerry. He would be backup G & RT.
Other than the cost and youth advantage, I'd take
over Bisnowaty who I believe is too over rated in
most fans minds.
