Eagles fans in denial about low turnout for parade

Despite early projections of anywhere between 2 and 4 million people, only 700,000 people turned out for the Eagles' parade Thursday, according to crowd science experts commissioned by Philly.com.

Eagles fans are upset about the estimated size of their crowd, flooding social media and sports talk radio with conspiracy theories, fake news claims, and their own uneducated estimates.

"A British company estimates 700,000 attended the Eagles parade?!" WIP host Angelo Cataldi tweeted. "Ha, ha. Here's my estimate: 3.2 million. I had a big advantage. I was there."

While the city has yet to release an official number, crowd-safety experts at Manchester Metropolitan University in England came up with their total by studying aerial photographs of the five-mile parade route.

For comparison, about 2 million Cavaliers fans packed the streets last year in Cleveland for their long-awaited parade, and an estimated 5 million came out for the Cubs' historic, slump-busting parade in 2016.

Eagles fans also brawled with each other at their parade in multiple locations, including on the ground soiled by porter potties. Leave it up to Eagles fans to fight with each other at a freaking parade. What a garbage fanbase.

The reason why?
Jay on the Island : 2/10/2018 10:56 am : link
The older mature fans who are actually civilized human beings, believe it or not there are actually some, didn't want to be around the vile, drunk, uneducated fans that get into fights with fellow fans for no reason.
Maybe the crowds were low because everybody

I think a lot of people, felt it wasn't worth the expected hassle
j_rud : 2/10/2018 11:07 am : link
They were talking 3-4 million, and given the available space on Broad St, where the majority of the parade happened, actually being able to see the thing was expected to be tough. Septa also sold out of tickets and people were told public trans wouldn't be able to accommodate them. Driving wasn't an option either. I think they psyched themselves out.
Who cares how many people came to the parade?
EricJ : 2/10/2018 11:08 am : link
that is not an indication as to whether they have dedicated fans.
Did the fans in the drunk tank get counted?

Yep.

Eagles fans are the dirt of the earth. Eagles have plenty of fans. Quantity was never the doubt, quality is.
The reason the number was lower than expected
Jay on the Island : 2/10/2018 12:09 pm : link
Is because 1.3 million Eagles fans were in the hospital after falling seriously ill for eating horse shit.
How does
McNally's_Nuts : 2/10/2018 12:16 pm : link
Mass transit sell out of tickets?

Granted I’ve lived in a New York my whole life and went to both Giants parades and didn’t have a problem getting there.

Going home kinda sucked but I eventually got home

Jay, a small % of that 1.3 million were hospitalized due to alcohol poisoning.

Be it's nowhere near the size/scope of NYCs transit system. It works for what the city needs, but it's small in comparison to NYC and it can be overwhelmed. Philly qualifies as a "big city" but I think people often forget that it isn't much bigger than Queens, and has a million fewer people than Brooklyn.
no matter how many

We have a winner. Why would you want to go to a parade knowing that too many of your fellow Eagles' fans are going to put you in a position where you may need to defend yourself otherwise be put in a horrible situation...being around total assholes?
Many people have said

That this was the biggest and best parade they've been to. Believe me. Believe me. Turnout was yuge.

for whatever reason fans here actually are bugged by this. I can't tell you how many times I heard this friday at work. So many said "700 is bull, looked like 1.1M to me". How the f could you estimate that number? I got to many games and when they announce attendance I sure as hell can't tell how many are missing.

I think this is most likely explanation. I work in center city and the hype for the parade, major road closures and limited/crammed regional rail all played into the total figure. Philly isn’t so big that it could accommodate 2 million people on one main drag.
the cwowds were smaller than expected ...

...because anyone intelligent knew violence would be part of the event and didn't want to risk their or their famiies safety. And they would have been correct. So....
As a Giants fan living in Philly

It’s pretty insulting that people on this board assume all Philly fans are drunks and losers. I call a lot of these people - very smart, educated, civilized people - friends and the reality is, most of them would be more than welcoming if you came to Philly is an open mind.

Philadelphia is a great American city with a ton to offer. Why Giants fans continue to shit on it is beyond me. Grow up, people.
Philly is made an unsafe cesspool...
Torrag : 2/11/2018 8:04 pm : link
...by being the home to way more than it's fair share of violent scumbags that take things altogether too far when it comes to how to behave at a sporting event.
